I feel like I have stayed in about 1000 hotels, etc. over my lifetime and I am an adventurous traveller who doesn't like to go to the same place, and especially stay in the same accommodation, more than once, but I would definitely stay at this hotel again. It is one of the best hotels I have ever stayed in. Location was perfect - just 2 short blocks (about 3 minutes walk) from the town centre and where the ski buses leave from, so we didn't have to drag our ski gear a long distance by foot. The rooms were beautifully decorated, the bed comfortable and the bathroom warm and clean. We arrived at night and when we woke up in the morning we opened the curtain next to the bed and were stunned by a spectacular view of snow-capped mountains across the lake (photo included). However, the best part was probably the staff, especially Pippa. When we arrived we knocked on the door and were greeted by Pippa. She sat us down on the couch in front of the log fire and chatted to us for a while, giving us some tips on Queenstown and skiing locations, then showed us our room and all the features of the hotel. Throughout our stay the staff were so friendly, as were other guests that we met in the shared lounge room. Breakfast in the old dairy (NZ for deli or corner store) was near-perfect to start a day of skiing (I suggest adding a little fresh fruit sometimes). Relaxing outdoors in the 40 degree Celsius spa was a wonderful way to wind down and ease those sore muscles after a day's skiing. Make sure you visit the kiwis, keas and other birds just up the road at the amazing bird park, and take the gondola next to the bird park to the top of the mountain for an amazing view and fun ride (race!) down the wheeled luge track. We highly recommend this hotel and will be back for sure to share the experience with other family members who couldn't come this time.

The Dairy Private Hotel was the perfect choice for us, 2 ladies celebrating their 60th birthdays with a week in Queenstown.

The hotel is perfectly situated for convenience to walk downtown, and we had spectacular views of the mountains from our room and balcony. We stayed in the Junior suite which was super comfortable and plenty spacious for all our gear. We were there to horse ride, and the backyard hot tub was great for our tired muscles after cold days in the saddle.

Happy hour, or more appropriately, 'complimentary wine time by the fire', is a terrific daily event, between 5 and 6. It's an opportunity to relax and get to know fellow guests, or just sit quietly with a book. Quality local wines and nibbles are offered by the super friendly staff. The 24 lollie, cookie, juice, tea/coffee bar is brilliant for those out of hours peckish needs. And fresh milk is always on hand for your tea or coffee.

The staff, Paula, Ornella, and Cam were delightful, always friendly, and catered to our every need with a smile.

The Hotel wallpaper is an adventure in itself, which adds to the feel of being somewhere very special. As I read in other reviews before I booked, "this place makes you feel like you're staying as a guest in someone's home, rather than in a hotel". I loved everything about The Dairy Private Hotel, and will definitely book here again for my next adventure in Queenstown.

This cute hotel (which is larger than it first looks) has the most beautiful decor to sink into. Plush velvet cushions, rich prints and wallpapers, even floral wallpaper on the ceilings in our rooms. I love artwork, so I also enjoyed the beautiful paintings on the walls, in particular the oil painting in the lounge area of the sail boat on a lake which is in an old gold antique frame. Could I please take that home with me, haha.

There are snacks provided 24 hours in the gorgeous lounge area - just help yourself. The 'Dairy' theme (the building was originally shops and a dairy) is included by having jars of jet planes, snakes and milk bottles (traditional NZ lollies) that you can fill little brown paper bags with for yourself to take with you if you feel like an old fashioned chewy munch. Plus there are so many drinks to choose from, wine, juices, soft drinks, teas and coffees which you can serve yourself in the pretty glassware and teacups. We sat cracking walnuts one night (bowl of walnuts and a very good walnut cracker, who knew that could be so much fun).

We had originally arrived quite late in the evening and I had some home-made muesli on arrival with a cup of 'sleep tea', which sent me off to quiet slumber that night.

I also enjoyed the old books on the shelves in the library nook - one was over 100 years old. They are so interesting to look at, even if they are a heavy read!

The location is very handy to the centre of town, also very close to the gondola. In the morning I would lean out my window and breathe in the fresh air and absorb the views over the lake and township.

The staff are unobtrusive but lovely to chat to if you want. They kept an eye on us, for example, they made sure we got a taxi when our Uber decided to cancel for some unknown reason. They also put little surprises in our rooms each day. We would come home after a day out to to bespoke drinks in our rooms, or a little gift on the bed (lavender hand lotion), which were a real treat.

A lovely bit of luxury, peace and quiet and great location. Highly recommend.

We stayed one night and were looking forward to some luxury after tramping for 5 days. I feel that this accomodation used to be quite lovely and new management is just ticking it over. It’s a quaint B and B not a “luxury private hotel” (whatever that means). Our rooms were small and the details were not to a luxury standard (mini fridge sitting on floor under a table, basic bathroom and no shelf in shower to place soap etc, average soaps and toiletries provided. In fact we had no soap at all in our room and had to ask for it.) There were signs the bathroom was not cleaned well also - ew. At breakfast, we overheard that there used to be a cooked breakfast menu that was popular but they no longer do that they will only make eggs, bacon and tomato. Not many gluten free options here either. On a positive note, When we checked in we were greeted by the lovely manager who was very attentive and also we had a very restful sleep. I think there are many better options in Queenstown for our next trip.

Place is ok but certainly not luxury. Location is good but parking is limited. Continental breakfast is served at one of three fixed times beginning at 7:30 and is very ordinary but the cook did do us soft boiled eggs to order. We had one of the larger rooms and it was comfortable but a bit run down. Better arrive early as the entire staff absconds at 6; last night a couple with a prepaid reservation arrived at about 6:30. We had to let them in the locked door. They were never able to get their room as there was no answer at any of the phone numbers we could find.

Dear Guest, Thank you for taking your time and sharing your experience with other travelers. We were glad to hear that you have found our location convenient and your room spacious enough. We just wanted to note that are our reception is open daily until 7:30pm with our team members sometimes staying on until later. For all guests who are arriving after reception has closed, we prepare late check in instructions which we send out to our guest or their travel agents in advance. It appeared that despite all necessarily steps that were taken to ensure guest can check in smoothly, the phone numbers which were provided for after hours communication were not dialed in correctly. We have a very thorough process to ensure our guests are well looked after on arrival and we communicate our opening hours in advance. Unfortunately, some travel agents unable to pass on required information which reaches our guests in time. We hope you had an enjoyable time in Queenstown and New Zealand, and wish you all the best for your future travels. Best Wishes, Maria The Dairy Private Hotel

The Dairy Private Hotel is located 5 minutes from the lake and shops and restaurants, as well as 5 minutes from the gondola. The staff are friendly, attentive, and helpful. Saibal, in particular, made us feel very welcome. The breakfast was tasty, and small touches, such as the water and sweets in the lounge, were appreciated. Our room was comfortable, clean, roomy, and provided tea/coffee and biscuits. The bed was very comfy and the bathroom had good shelf space to spread things out. Great water pressure in the shower, too. Thank you for making our stay in Queenstown memorable!

Located adjacent to, but not impacted by noise of, town center; an easy 5-7 minute walk to all restaurants along the lake. Breakfast room is the old dairy store and is charming. Rooms are well appointed with very comfortable beds. Staff is terrific and really a pleasure to be around. Living room and library provide out-of-room reading spots, very nice.

I spent three nights in total at The Dairy, before and after tramping (as the New Zealanders say) on the Milford Track with Ultimate Hikes. From my arrival to my departure, Sasha, Evelyn and their colleagues provided excellent, thoughtful service during both my stays.

Other reviewers’ positive descriptions of the hotel’s rooms and facilities are spot on in my opinion. My rooms on each stay were perfect - cosily warm and comfortable bed, a well equipped bathroom (with bonus heated towel rails), snacks, milk in a real bottle, coffee machine and kettle with a great range of teas.

The lounge area made for a comfortable space to chat with fellow guests as well as indulging in some yummy NZ confectionery. There is also a private little courtyard where smokers didn’t need to feel like pariahs!

I returned from the Milford somewhat stiff and sore to find I’d been allocated an upstairs room. One look at my plaintive face was all it took for Evelyn to juggle my booking that night back to a ground floor room. A small but very considerate gesture that was greatly appreciated.

I really enjoyed my stays here and will definitely be recommending The Dairy to any friends visiting Queenstown in the future.

Kia ora Leigh, Ngā mihi nui for your incredible review! We're over the moon to hear you had a fantastic stay with us, both before and after your Milford Track adventure. Sasha, Evelyn, and the rest of the crew are sending a big shout-out for your kind words. Stoked that you found the rooms cozy and well-equipped – those heated towel rails are a game-changer, right? And the lounge area is the perfect spot for some Kiwi confectionery indulgence. Evelyn is all about those considerate gestures, and we're glad she could make your post-Milford recovery a bit easier with a ground floor room. Thanks a bunch for recommending The Dairy to your friends visiting Queenstown – we can't wait to host them too! Ngā mihi nui

We had a lovely stay at the Dairy! We stayed two nights and was welcomed by Gabrielle! She checked us in, handed us a glass of bubbles and gave us a tour. She even moved her own car so we had a place to park! Our room was very comfortable and the location of the hotel is close to everything queenstown has to offer. The breakfast was delicious in a perfect setting and there is even a candy bar set up in the main all the time! We loved it!

In June, I booked a three night stay at The Dairy Private Hotel in Queenstown from October 12-15, as a surprise getaway for an early celebration of my wife's birthday, which is October 19th.

After having booked via the property's website, I communicated directlywith Abhishek Kokje, General Manager at The Dairy Private Hotel, to let him know I was brining my wife to Queenstown, and I asked him to let me know if the Junior Suite would be available during the dates of our stay. He replied affirmatively, so I decided to splurge for the upgrade, and am glad I did.

The Junior Suite has a small balcony, which provides a nice view over Queenstown, and of The Remarkables.

The Dairy Private Hotel is "boutique" (only thirteen rooms), and in an excellent location, only a few short blocks from the centre of Queenstown (with its outstanding offering of cafes, restaurants, pubs, and shopping) and Lake Wakatipu.

Barbara and Sacha both provided genuinely warm, friendly, and heartfelt service to my wife & me, and they made both of us feel like welcome and valued guests.

Many years ago, I came to understand you can train someone to provide a service or perform a task, but you can't teach passion, pride, or enthusiasm.
The way Barbara and Sacha went about their jobs every day indicated to my wife & me they enjoy working at The Dairy, interacting with their guests, and that they both are consummate hospitality industry professionals.

My wife & I highly recommend The Dairy Private Hotel in Queenstown, and if we are ever fortunate enough to be able to return to Queenstown, we would absolutely, definitely, most certainly stay at The Dairy Private Hotel.

Thank you Abhishek, Barbara, Sacha, and your fellow team members!

Kia ora Charles, Wow, what a heartwarming review! We're absolutely thrilled to hear about the wonderful experience you and Margaret had at The Dairy Private Hotel. It sounds like early birthday celebration was a success, and we're delighted to have been a part of it. It's great to know that you enjoyed the Junior Suite and its view of Queenstown and The Remarkables. We believe those little moments of serenity can make a stay truly special. Your kind words about Barbara and Sacha truly warm our hearts. They are indeed gems, and your recognition of their genuine warmth and dedication means the world to us. We couldn't agree more with your sentiment about passion and enthusiasm—it's something we hold dear here at The Dairy. Thank you so much for your high recommendation, and we sincerely hope to welcome you and your wife back in the future. Ngā mihi nui

Yes e have a drying room for ski all ski gear. We don't have a restaurant on-site, although we have just introduced a Private Dining option, with some of Queenstown's top chefs - so you can now dine at the hotel. Alternatively, there are plenty of great restaurants in Queenstown itself - just a short 2 minutes walk from the hotel

Answer from Ryan M

Hi there, we do offer a laundry service for a small fee. As some of the answers have already indicated, our service is a "wash and fold" service - we'll provide you with a basket that you can fill with your laundry and we'll wash and fold evrything during the day whilst you are out enjoying Queenstown. Hope this helps.
