I stayed there for the second time and once again our stay was great. We love this place and the facilities it offers considering that we are in the middle of nowhere. The owners are really nice and helpful. We had some trouble with our car there and the owner helped us solve it even though it was 6am. Will...

Loved staying here for two nights. Charming campsite with limited power (only from 6-10pm) and showers heated by woodfire. Very romantic. Also cute cabins with woodstoves, but we were in a campervan. Sandflies are endemic. Lake Marian Track near campsite is breathtaking.

If you don't like sand flies, don't go here. They are crazy. Our cabin was fine, clean and tidy, but there was a gap around the door so all the sand flies just flew in. We only stayed 1 night and that was enough. A small tour called in for a tea stop and were nice enough to walk around...

Amazing! What a beautiful isolated off the beaten track location. Simplicity at its best. You wont find many places with rustic cabins, coal range fires (used for cooking), snow capped mountains and river running thru. facilities are basic are perfect. Id say this is 5 star campsite. absolutely love it and will be back next time :)

We arrived to be told we had to pay an extra $7.50 for linen (not specified in the confirmation) on top of the $30 for the dorm so $37.50 in total, the most expensive "hostel" we've paid for travelling the whole of NZ. We were then told there were no pots, pans, plates or cutlery, electricity and kitchen was switched...

We stopped for the night in our van before heading to Milford sound. Great facilities (hot showers, toilets, kitchen and lounge with board games, sofas and a fire.) lovely setting next to the river with a quirky little museum. Aside from nelson lakes this was the worst place we've stayed in NZ for sandlfies, they swarmed us. Stray bus tours...

The title says it all. Basic, quiet, beautiful, historic. Old school travelling at its finest. And we found it by accident. Historic wood huts. Wood burning stoves, a small museum, great kitchen (bring your own supplies, its a long way from anywhere} PS watch out for the sandflies.

This is a proper kiwi style accom in the heart of Fiordland. Forget the flash hotels at Milford and the DoC camps, THIS is the bomb! Perfect for winter, no people, hot showers, a nice big log fire in the lounge and good hosts.

This was probably one of my favorite places we camped for our entire 2 week tour in New Zealand. There are of course the caveats you've probably read about pertaining to the electricity and the hot water in the showers, but that aside, this place was cool. The owners have a big sense of humor and there are jokes all...

Stayed there one night with a Stray group, AJ and his wife were great hosts, the wood fired hot water cylinder provided perfect hot water, very hot!. If you want 4 Star hotel accommodations don't stay here and complain. Don't be a sissy, enjoy the place.

“You can camp in ur van for 15 each per night. Or splash out and rent one of the classic huts.”

“Some of the rooms are in very historic cabins with fire places etc.. and some are in newly built buildings. The room you want depends on the experience you are after. The old cabin we were in was lovely and historic, however the gaps in door (expected in old cabin) let sandflies into the room which got annoying. You are unlikely to ever have a fire to yourself in any other accommodation though, so I recommend the rustic option :)”
