Well firstly I have to admit that the location of the backpackers was really unique. You had to drive a little out of town to go there and it was nice after a long day in Milford Sound. You woke up and there they were, the alpacas and the cows! There was no phone service in the rooms and it...

I was surprised to experience such an awful stay here after reading all the good reviews. This place really could be amazing but is lacking in SO many ways. This truly was the worst stay we had in our 1 month of traveling in NZ (via hostels/airbnb) and we are world travelers. It's run by a group of rude adolescent...

Stayed three nights in a 4 person share room in Feb '17. Nice place, everything very clean, huge kitchen, great views. Not the most social place I've stayed at, though, and wifi was horrible. Also the door to the bathroom didn't close all the way and couldn't be locked which was a bit awkward, I was quite happy my room...

We had an individual small cabin at Barnyard Backpackers! It was very basic but completely clean. People were very friendly and the main cabin has a large kitchen that people staying can use for cooking for food storage.

We just stayed in thr Barnyard for 2 nights, because we didnt find any available backpacker in te anau - and we were so glad we did it! Just driving there was amazing - the views from the room are stunning - feals like youre in a hut in some track. We paid the same price (with bbh) for an...

I'll preface this by saying that the property seems like it's under renovation so we possibly just had a bad night, but I'm not sure. The kitchen space was wonderful and the views are absolutely beautiful. I also realise that this is a backpackers, but we weren't expecting luxury, just absolute basics that weren't provided. At $84 a night for...

We love this place, we stay whenever we visit fiordland. Friendly helpful owners, amazing views, the kitchen is flash, and has everything you need. During the summer there is bbqs, and large outdoor table to relax and listen to the birds while enjoying the incredible atmosphere, native birds, deer in the paddocks, the lake in the distance. In the winter...

It is a fair way South of Te Anau but a very nice option. The little cottages have everything you need and the kitchen and common area in the main building are beautiful. Stayed 3-4 times now (latest in March 16) and it is a very nice option in the area.

We spent a couple of nights at Barnyard Backpackers - best kitchen we have cooked in during our four months travelling so far. Clean, spacious with great utensils. Bedroom was pretty and cosy with great views, beds a little uncomfortable. Lots to do in the area, a great base for exploring the Fiordland, staff extremely helpful.

It locates outside of TeAnau town center; probably needs 10 mins by car. The surrounding is wonderful, like wonderland. Internet signal is very weak (I use Spark's tele service). The kitchen in the main cottage has pens, pots and utensils you need to cook, but no oil. The cottage we stayed was comfortable. We stayed two nights - one of...

Thanks for your review Tina. Since January this year, we were finally supplied with BroadBand services into our area , and from then on, offer Broadband Internet. Now Internet access is available via WiFi with a free daily allowance and you can save on your costly mobile internet data. Yes , that was a very strong wind that day. It...
