Bruce and Marian Langhus, your hosts at Lang House, are retired geologists who moved to the Village of Gagetown from the oil patch in North Dakota in the summer of 2015. A visit to the village reveals a variety of dining opportunities; The Old Boot Pub (try the steak and eggs), Creek View Restaurant with Family-style meals and pies, and Gulliver's World Cafe gives us true global cuisine. The local "Apple Tree Market" offers fresh baked goods and many grocery products as well as great coffee and New Brunswick ice cream. Lang House offers a full-cooked breakfast, bacon or sausage, eggs, and fried potatoes. We also offer a choice of breads and the local black currant jam! Lang House has five bedrooms, each with a different theme: Writer's Room, Flower Room, Family Room, Captain's Room and The Marina Room. Three dining areas grace the inside with four sitting areas outside. Bruce and Marian offer seminars at Lang House on such topics as Aging for Amateurs and Climate Change.

Detailed Reviews
My wife and i just just recently purchased a watercraft and wanted to get away fro weekend. A phone call later we booked a night at Step Aside B&B. Located with a picturesque view of marina and just by chance we were able to dock our baby right in front of our room!! We were informed Buy the owners breakfast would be a treat and we were NOT disappointed one bit! Amazing is the best word to describe our experience. Even if you don't own a boat it would be worth yr while to visit the new owners and treat yourself to some great home made cuisine thank you very much Melanie and David

My husband and I took a drive to Gagetown, on a complete whim. Off season, quiet day in town, quaint and peaceful.
We were walking past the shops, going in a few, when a couple came out of the market. With big smiles they said hello and asked where we were from. “Just an hour away, out for a drive”,we replied.
Within minutes of chit chat we discovered mutual interests and found ourselves seated in Marian and Bruce’s living room looking out at the river and learning about gorgeous mended quilts from the late 1800’s. Marian restores damaged quilts with authentic materials matched from the quilts’ time period. Bruce, a wood carver, showed us his studio and latest projects.
Although we didn’t arrive as overnight guests, we felt their warmth and hospitality must be mentioned here. Their home is beautiful and immaculately clean. And even though they are only an hour away we just might find ourselves back for a stay.
Thank you, Marian, Bruce and Lang House!

Was there last night we were granted a warm welcome even though we get there late. Marian and Bruce make sure we had a perfect stay and I cannot pass on the excellent breakfast we got. We shared a really good moment. I recommend for everyone this is the perfect stop on your way to Halifax or PEI.

So this is a two section review. The first part refers to the general b&b, facilities etc. (second part refers to its suitability for a quilt retreat; my purpose for visiting).
Gagetown is a lovely little village, only 12 minutes drive from the TCH and about a half hour south of Fredericton NB, as such it is ideal for anyone traveling through NB, needing an overnight or weekend stay. Lang House is a gorgeous old house with modern touches. Easy to find with views overlooking the fabulous St John river. The owners are extremely friendly and knowledgeable. Rooms have vintage flair. Everything you could want in a bed and breakfast. Breakfasts are to die for. Way more culinary talent than the average place you'd stay at! There are a variety of rooms for all needs, not all have en-suite but it was not a problem for us (3 females). Rooms are spacious, clean, well lit, comfortable beds/pillows etc. Clean bathrooms and plenty of towels. There is a room on the ground floor for anyone with mobility issues.
There are two restaurants in the village, (I wrote reviews on both) and the cutest little indoor market, but not a lot of other services (fuel and liquor store right across the road!!). Marion and Bruce, the owners would help if you needed dinner reservations or anything similar. This is the perfect b&b for a weekend romantic getaway, or a week-long NB vacation. It's perfectly situated between the cities of Moncton, Saint John and Fredericton, so is ideal as a base.
Second part.....so if you're still reading, you might be a quilter/crafter. 3 of us stayed at Lang House for the weekend for a mini-retreat as quilters. Marion was most accomodating; she set us up with work stations, ironing and cutting stations etc. We had lots of natural light and space to work. We were provided with ice-water and biscotti. We took snacks ourselves to share (as quilters do!!). Breakfasts both mornings were beyond excellent and substantial enough to last us well into the day. We ate at the two restaurants in the village. One is fine dining (Gullivers) and the other (CreekView) is better than average food and the desserts are fantastic. Both restaurants are licensed, so you are able to have wine/beer. Both are within easy walking distance of Lang House. 3 or 4 quilters is probably the maximum for staying here, not because of the accomodations, there are several rooms, but the great sewing space (daylight) can only probably only fit 4 (with all the stuff we tote along). Knitters would be a different group, there are great couches for sitting as well as table spaces. I encourage small groups to contact this b&b if you are looking for a casual retreat.
