I was impressed with the cleanliness and our room had everything you could need, including ironing board, iron, kettle, toaster, fridge, TV, clock, microwave, plates, cutlery etc. The shower was really good too. Complimentary tea, coffee and biscuits made us feel at home.

Don’t expect more then a motor inn situated on the Great western highway- expect trucks all throughout the night and cars racing each other at all hours. The beds were comfortable and rooms were clean. As an older style accommodation the rooms are dark due to a lack of windows. Although the rooms are smoke free- the balconies are certainly not with both floors flooded in the smell of cigarette smoke early in the morning till very late at night. The Inn has a pool area, barbecue and access to kitchen appliances. It’s located next door to a coles express petrol and across the road from a 7/11 so food options were limited to what they had if you didn’t want to walk into town. The manager was lovely and helpful- would recommend for someone staying short term not long term just due to the road noise nightly as it can get draining.

Spontaneously stayed one night on our way to a wedding in the Hunter Valley, reasonable price, comfy beds and the service was fantastic. Our next stop was 3 nights at the Chateau Elan at nearly $400 per night. Stunning rooms but to be honest it paled in comparison to the modest Ben Chifley Motor Inn. Service was garbage, no room service and it was close to nothing. The toffs can keep their golf course views, the warm and welcoming service at BCMI won me over.

Firstly I’ll admit I was a last minute booking and the alternative was a motel that featured bedbugs in its review and the Ben Chifley Motor In had decent reviews,

I also read the reviews where the owners / managers replied to comments discrediting the one providing the review, unfortunately there’s no ability for the review to provide their comments following so if the owners/ managers try to discredit my comments the reader knows why,

The only positive comment I can make is that the beds had clean sheets.

Firstly was charged $190 dollars for a room located in what seems like the middle of the car park, upon entering I greeted with a mixed cocktail of odours made up of stale cigarette smoke, over use of deodorising product and mould,

The room itself was a tired and run down room that has holes in the wall, cracked walls and in parts render was staring to come away from the walls, chipped tiles and bathroom hardware, a tv that hang on an angle as well as mismatched electrical fittings.

I realise most would have walked out and found somewhere else but having commitments and needing to be somewhere in 1/2 hour time wasn’t on my side,

The only thing to dilute the smell was the air conditioning, which as a result I needed to run all night,

The tv it turns out need to be reset and then it only had one channel - horse racing,

Quick trip to the bathroom to discover it contained a mould spotted ceiling, both Chipped tiles and chipped soap holder which also featured mould as a decorative addition.

Bed time that night featured a lack of sleep, the overriding smell of previous occupants cigarette smell clinging to the pillows combined with the lack of coverage the block out curtains provided as they didn’t cover the entire length of the window add in the worn out patches in the backing material so the curtains featured the own starry night light show due to the flurrcsent lights outside the windows the room inside was brighter than my child’s night light which I had left at home,

The bathroom also featured it’s own external night light and one didn’t need to turn the light on for a night time visit.

Together with an 8am knock on the door to tell me house keeping was ready to make up the room the following morning sleep was not something I enjoyed on my stay,

Would I recommend the Ben Chifley? Nope, I can recommend backpacks I’ve stayed in and caught tinnea using the shower which where in better condition, quieter and had a more reasonable house keeping hours,

And defiantly not worth the amount charged.

Brief overnighter in Bathurst. Second time we have stayed in this motel. Clean, comfortable with very pleasant staff. One of the best cooked breakfasts to your room at a very inexpensive cost.(other choices as well) Will stay again. Got upgraded at no cost.

Reception staff were very warm and welcoming. Room was clean and as we expected. We received a free upgrade which was nice. Not sure what we got extra - maybe a bit more space? The mini kitchenette was handy to make breakfast and cups of tea. Only complaints were that the bed was a bit uncomfortable and the air conditioner struggled and was noisy (it was over 40 degrees that day).

First and foremost, they were willing to take my last minute booking. My partner was unexpectedly required to stay overnight in Bathurst Hospital, and instead of going back and forth to Oberon, I chose to stay. The motel is reasonably close to the hospital, a short few min drive. The room is clean, basic, and comfortable, It has everything one needs without any frills, just how I like it. The manager was very accommodating in allowing me to stay till just after 11, so I could have a quiet place to have a telehealth appointment. Thank you so very much for helping make a stressful situation less stressful. Five stars for that alone.

Don't stay here - uncompassionate, non-communicative staff who completely ignore calls and complaint resolutions.
We booked a night but needed to cancel as a relative became sick. We booked through booking.com and they were excellent and tried to help us get a refund but the hotel took a full nights accommodation fee immediately and upon explaining our situation, they didn't return calls or emails. When we did eventually talk to them, they kept referring us to booking.com. Booking.com said they can refund the money if the hotel approves it, which they didn't. Their whole approach to customers is to ignore them and take their money, obviously profits are more important than customer service.

We stayed at Ben Chifley Motor Inn during the snow season. We received a very warm & a pleasant welcome. The staff were knowledgeable about the locality and suggested places where we could see the snow. We had one of the best motel stays here. The beds had electric blankets, which was a bonus!

Room was spacious, clean and comfortable. Bathroom was spotless. Beds and pillows were just right. We slept peacefully. The motel is conveniently located with a 7-11 just across the road. There are a couple of fast food / pizza takeaways nearby. Overall, we had an excellent stay & would love to visit them again.

Booked for 2 nights in January but had to cancel a day before due to me testing positive for Covid. I cancelled using the button for the purpose in the email sent to me and rang the motel to discuss my situation. The receptionist said she would tell the manager and he would get back to me however I didn't get a call back. When I saw that the full payment had been taken out of my bank account at 6am in the morning of the day we were supposed to arrive, I rang the motel and the rather uninterested receptionist said they had not received my cancellation notification so I forwarded the confirmation email to her and rang her again. She was hesitant at first but then said she had received my forwarded email and would tell the manager. 2 weeks later when I was feeling better and as I still hadn't heard from the motel I rang them and was greeted with an answering machine. I left a message asking to speak to the manager and to date, a week later, no one has contacted me either by email or phone. Every time I ring now I get the answering machine. On their website it says if you cancel within 72 hours of the booking they keep the first day's payment. At the very least they should refund me the 2nd day but they haven't had the common decency to even discuss it with me. Covid is an issue affecting all of us and we are all trying to get through it together but these people only care about the money.
