The hotel’s undercover parking was appreciated, with local hail warnings during our stay (none eventuated fortunately).
The room was spacious and modern, with a kitchen, a separate bathroom with spa, and also a separate toilet/laundry room.
The kitchen i included all cooking utensils and cutlery so you could stock up at the supermarket and eat cheap if you were so inclined.
My daughter claimed the bed and I got lumped with the sofa bed. Not the most comfy sleep but i eventually dozed off.
My daughter used the bath but was hesitant to turn the spa on as it was quite late and the spa generates a bit of noise.
The balcony has a perfect view of the Chase and Murrays, it would be a fantastic stay during the Great Race. On the 4th floor, the balcony is actually shared (ie. the dividers stop short of the railing) but people mostly stayed within their areas. 5th floor and above have personal balconies.
The prices on race day would be prohibitive for me, with the highly sought after rooms fetching 6 or 7 times the regular nightly rate with a 5 night min stay.
However I would gladly stay here again outside of race times, and do a few on-the-limit (60km/h) laps of the track while I’m there.
Staff are always friendly and helpfull.
Have stayed in a number of hotels in Bathurst. Rydges is our preferred accommodation for a small apartment with kitchenette.
This was our second time staying here and it seems a few things have changed since our stay in March 2021.
Within 5 minutes of getting into our room we had to be moved as the airconditioning unit was leaking water all over the floor.
When, I believe it was the hotel supervisor for that day came up to our room and gave us the new room key/card he told us were moving you to this room and it 'should' be ok. So obviously shifted us to a room that they did not check prior to moving us.
We were given a room service menu on check in and an information sheet including the WiFi password. Unfortunately we left these when we moved rooms and did not get a chance to read the part where if you want your room cleaned and fresh towels you need to hang something on the door instructing room service to do it.
This was not necessary on our last stay and when I called reception advising our room had not been refreshed I was advised things have changed and you need to request it. This is perhaps something you should advise guests on when they are checking in? Especially if it has changed in the past 12 months.
Room service is only available between 6-830pm. Really?
On check out thry tried to charge us an additional $60 for goodness knows what and I had to go through our charges with them until they agreed I was correct.
The only real positive about this stay was Mel at the reception desk was pleasant and friendly.
Expected more from such a large hotel chain...
The room was well appointed with a full kitchen inc oven and dish drawer, huge 2 person spa bath, older flatscreen tv (no casting) and aircon unit. The room was mainly original however was clean and comfortable and stayed reasonably warm without heating given the outside temp was 13 deg. The views of the racetrack were spectacular however note levels 3 and 4 have a shared balcony - everyone stayed in front of their own rooms though. Request a higher floor if you want a private balcony.
One thing that was frustrating was the limited hours of the on site restaurant Chicane Bar and Grill. It was closed between 9am weekdays/10am weekends (when the buffet breakfast finishes) and 6pm. No room service breakfast or lunch at all and only a 2.5 hour window for dinner from a limited menu. There is also no dinner service at all on Sundays. You can’t even get a barista coffee during the day. We had to order delivery through menulog from the local restaurants which was fast and good though, one of the Indian restaurants even delivered to our room.
Overall it was a decent trip and we would stay again based on the location, just make sure you plan for food in advance.
However, a few improvements are needed, rooms are very dusty...it looks like phones, tablets etc hadn't been dusted in years! Under the bed was also dusty. Breakfast is a bit pricey for what you get so only went one day and didn't go back. For that price, it needs a bit more options. Water should be complimentary $6 for 2 bottles leaves a bad taste in one's mouth....
Overall not a bad stay. Would go back.
Now the not so good for our trip…..The pillows were lumpy and this should have been picked up by housekeeping – glad we took our own. The AC was noisy and there was no way we could sleep with it on. Shower over the bath, not easy to get in and out and the small screen was rather less than useless – the floor got so wet
Had breakfast at Chicanes (not included in the room rate) and was very poor for the money. Wish we had headed into a café in Bathurst. The avocado “smash” was dark green puree – more like you get out of a jar of baby food – no pleasant to eat. Coffee was only available in take out cups because “they didn’t have the staff to wash the ceramics”. $8 for a glass of juice that was not even fresh!
Overall was not quite like the pictures and is very dated and in need of a refresh but reasonable for the price we paid. Would consider returning for a future trip."
