We had a great weekend away at Kirkton Park, was a bit more expensive than other places we generally stay at but we felt it was worth it. We had a great experience with the staff, very professional and helped with any request made. The location has amazing views with perfectly manicured grounds, and the colours and scent of the roses was exquisite. We did notice, as in other reviews, that building maintenance could be improved (e.g. bulk leaves in roof gutters, rusted gates and eroded tiles in pool area and leaky taps in bathroom) but these were not at a level that detracted from the overall experience, we would certainly be very comfortable on booking here again.
We only had breakfast and 1 night of room service during our stay, both provided very nice meals which we enjoyed.
Overall a great weekend stay :-)

We were fortunate to have a couple of nights in an Executive Suite. The hotel is beautiful & and the grounds huge & stunning too. It is all built on 1 level. All the staff we encountered were excellent, eager to help and always with a smile. In our room, there was only 1 aircon unit in the living area with the sofa bed where our daughter slept. In the main bedroom, there was no aircon, therefore no heating and it was cold. The mattress on the bed was also very lumpy, which made sleep not very comfortable. Perhaps flip the mattresses or get new ones?? We requested a portable heater & the staff were happy to oblige. The bathrooms were quite large but looking tired. The tops of the bedhead need vacuuming. There was an inch of dust sitting on top. Housekeeping needs to add this to their list. Also, although the Nespresso machine was a welcome sight in the room, one requires an extension lead as its cord is very short and all the powerpoints were on the floor. Again, the staff were very obliging here when asked for an extension lead. I know the hotel is trying to do the right thing by cleaning well using a very strong disinfectant each day but if they could possibly spray something more pleasant smelling in the room afterwards, that would be nice. As for the restaurant, we had dinner here on 1 night only. The menu is a limited one for obvious reasons at this time. My daughter enjoyed her burger & fries as did hubby with his fish & chips. My ribs & salad had obviously been sitting under a heat lamp as the sauce had dried out as did the cucumbers and the salad was hot too. Yuk! Also, I asked for a bottle of coke zero which didn't taste right. After checking the expiry date on the bottle, it had already expired. The waitress was very apologetic and explained that only having recently re-opened they didn't check. All good. The resort also has a huge indoor swimming pool with beautiful comfy lounges in it. It's a very pretty area. There are also chickens, pigs and a beehive where you will receive a small jar of complimentary honey from in your room. A very nice touch. The resort is 10 mins from the Hunter Valley Gardens. I would consider staying here again.

I understand that this ist not a 5 star hotel and of course they also do not charge five star rates. But that should not be an excuse for the rooms and the public areas not being clean and kept in order.
The outside hallway in front of our two rooms was so dirty and full of bird poop that I had to get a broom to clean it up, cause othwise we would have carried the dirt it into our rooms.
The patio of both of our rooms were so dirty that you couldnt use them at all (picture attached) they probably havent been cleaned for over a year, which is really sad, because the view from the patio is beautiful and we would have loved to sit outside. Obviously nobody of the management really checks the perimeter.
Same applies to the restaurant, chairs full of crums, food on the floor, plates are not getting cleaned up even if guests have left..etc.
The whole place makes just an unkempt impression which is sad, because it could be really nice.

Stayed here with my wife for a weekend trip
Pros -
Great Service A+++
Great location
Food was nice
Cons
*Bathroom is very outdated
*Balcony is very dirty with bird poor on floor & sits which looks like it hasn’t been cleaned for months
*Room is dusty and cleaners not look at the little things
*Pool area is the biggest turn off and needs a massive clean - You can tell it has not been cleaned for several months and left unattended.
Floor is all muddy , chairs / tables had food sitting there for 3 days , windows have not been cleaned at all
* Spa only half working with a few jets , filter has not been cleaned so your sitting with all insects
To the Hotel - No need to write back apologising as I can see a lot of other people write the same reviews but I haven’t seen the change on my stay.
Go have a look yourself and see if you would like it paying $500/night and not getting what I paid for ?

Hi MuslimTraveller678, I'm glad you chose our hotel for your visit to Pokolbin. Thank you for staying. We promise a comfortable and convenient experience for all of our guests. I'm sorry you experienced issues with the stay, especially with the bathroom, balcony, room cleanliness, pool area, and spa. I can see these dampened your visit. Trust that I alerted our management about this so we can make the necessary changes to better our service. On the bright side, I'm glad you found our staff service great, location convenient, and food nice. We appreciate your feedback about your stay and looking forward to your next travel. Many Thanks, Rein V Case Manager IHGService

Stayed for a week at this beautiful property. They clearly used the enforced shutdown during covid to spruce the place up -everything looked perfect from the gardens to the rooms. The tennis courts, swimming pool and common areas were excellent. The fire pits at night were lovely. The food was acceptable. However, the staff was absolutely unprepared to be looking after a full house of guests. Every morning at breakfast it took ages to get food, and when they did bring it the order was wrong. Every. single. morning. It got to be a joke - in the end we just ate whatever they delivered. The housekeeping was almost non-existent: on the random days a cleaner showed up, there was no attempt to vacuum, wipe surfaces or change sheets. And the topper was when they let the water tank run dry! No water at all in the entire hotel for hours. No showers, no toilets, no drinking water, no cleaning. In summary, gorgeous property, well maintained, but if felt like the parents went away and left their teenage kids in charge of the guests.

Firstly the hard product
A face lift several years ago by renowned interior designer is showing its age already, furniture in our room was visibly water damaged/ worn and needed replacing, paintwork throughout room and public areas is high maintenance and looked somewhat sad in places. Stayed in the Manor Suite which had a seperate living area, comfortable bed but a basic bathroom with a cramped shower over the bath and the bathroom was strangely up 2 stairs. All expected bathroom amenities stripped out probably due to due to COVID. No shower cap, soap in a pump pack, but towels were large and fluffy.
Grounds are lovely but clearly an overwhelming task to look after beyond a basic standard.Verandahs had broken flooring, paving in desperate need of maintenance and cleaning, exterior lights not working/needing replacement. The feature herb and vegetable garden was neglected and could not possibly have serviced the needs of the restaurant as promoted. Some guests had dogs with them so they must be a dog friendly hotel.
Food - friendly service but not enough trained staff at breakfast, you are assigned a time due to COVID (even for breakfast) so no excuse for long wait times etc when management dictates when you can eat. Breakfast was included in rate booked but extra charge for barista coffee of $5 is a ripoff. Dinner in Lovacore on the other hand was very nice.
Staff encountered at check in and check out were efficient but our final bill had someone else’s room service included which I had to debate to have removed, which is why I always check out in person to double check the bill.I also found it odd that they processed the cost of the entire stay to my CC on checkin not check out.
Probably would look at another hotel in area next time as suite price was inflated relative to the quality of the accomodation. Not terrible but no wow factor either.

We booked a superior room for two nights. The hotel room was nice and had all the amenities you would normally accept (BYO knife for the cheese).
The room over looked the rose garden which was in full bloom and lovely to look at, especially as it faced west, was great at sunset. Although there was some traffic that walked through the rose garden the sheer curtain gave the room some privacy.
Our package included breakfast which we ordered off a menu (no buffet due to covid) but there was only two available sittings from 6:30-8:00 and 8:30-10:00. The breakfast was basic but was perfect for what we were after.
We did the high tea which was really nice, the scones were freshly made and literally fell out of our hands, however the waitress then told us that all the hot food was frozen (we assumed it was frozen but didn't really need to be told as you would like to think what you are eating is 'fresh').
We made a booking at the lounge bar for dinner well in advance, however when we went only lounge tables were available which did not suit us as we were eating. Instead we were placed in the conservatory by ourselves as they could not accommodate a table for us. The staff seemed to be somewhat flustered with countless used glasses and cups just sitting at the bar (approx 30 glasses) and staff chatting about how long they had been at work for and helping themselves to coffees etc. We ordered two pizzas which were great but the food came out before the drinks.
When I checked out the receptionist wanted to charge my card again for the booking which I confirmed it had already been charged. The hotel charges a $50 per night 'bond' when you pay (you get this back) and also a 1.5% card fee (please be aware of this when paying).
Overall the experience was nice, the staff at times seemed to be flustered and unsure of what was going on which as a customer was noticed, however they were all very friendly and welcoming.

My husband and I stayed here recently for our 1-year wedding anniversary.
When enquiring about the local wine tours, the reception staff were not very helpful. She provided the name of two local businesses, but did not provide anything further (i.e. contact information, a pamphlet, etc.)
The room was nice, however it wasn’t what we were expecting considering the amount we paid. There were no options to rent a movie and the water pressure wasn’t great. The bed was really comfortable.
The biggest let down was the balcony. The image on the website gives the illusion of a private balcony overlooking the mountains, however our room opened up to one long communal balcony with a table setting in front of each room. There were no dividers for privacy/security and although we did spend a bit of time out there, I know we would have been out there more had it not been for our neighbours being less than 2 metres away when they were using the balcony too.
Room Service didn’t come after 45 minutes of placing an order just for a bottle of wine. Had to phone again to follow up.
We did not have a great experience at the Epoche Bar. We were greeted by a lovely waitress who offered us seating at either bar stools at a cocktail table or a coffee table setting. Neither seemed appropriate or comfortable for having wood fire pizza. We opted for the cocktail table because it was a bit more private.
Within 10 minutes, the initial excitement of the welcome we received had well and truly passed as I realised that the couples that arrived immediately before and after us had already ordered their drinks, been given table water and had ordered their food.
Some staff looked to be run off their feet while others were standing around chatting to other guests. We had trouble flagging someone down; none of the staff looked in our direction or came near our table. I could see the waitress that welcomed us having a long conversation with another couple for well over 10 minutes, so not everyone would have left with a negative experience.
Considering how busy it was, it was difficult to understand how she could spare the time for such a long chat, especially when other guests were still waiting to order.
After 30 minutes of waiting, we were ready to walk out but didn’t know where else we could go for our anniversary dinner; especially considering it was 8.40pm by this stage. Finally, my husband was able to get the attention of a waiter who was very apologetic, allowed us to move to a more comfortable table and also gave us drinks on the house. His excellent customer service definitely redeemed our experience to an extent but it was a bit frustrating to have to experience that in the first place. On a positive note, the cocktails, arancini and pizza were delicious.
I have had better experiences in less pricey hotels. When staying in a hotel, you’re paying for a bit of luxury and the service but for less money, we could have stayed in a nice AirBNB and had the same level of service. The customer service was nice but felt superficial and not genuine. It didn’t feel like the people who we interacted with really cared if we had a good experience or not (aside from the nice waiter who served us after the 30 minute wait – he was great and seemed genuine).

My friend and I recently stayed here to attend an event at Hope Estate.
We were first greeted by a lovely man at reception who had great energy and was very helpful in orientating us to the Hotel.
The room and grounds were nice, we particularly liked to be able to wander down to feed the pigs and chickens an play some basketball. The location and organisation of busses to Hope Estate was fantastic!
We found the food menu to be a little limited. We both really wanted a nice salad, something apart from a garden salad. The pizzas were good, but I asked for some tabasco and the pizza was near cold by the time the bar person brought it to us.
The bar was probably the most disappointing aspect. We wanted to order drinks while playing a game of pool and the bar staff had disappeared. We stool waiting for about 10 minutes before I went to reception to ask for service in the bar. Then when the bar staff returned, they weren't able to tell us what was in a particular cocktail that was on the menu.
We ordered two old fashioned (from the menu) and they were terrible. The other cocktails we tried were not great either and they were $20 each. All in all, we spent $120 on cocktails (3 each) of which we only enjoyed the cosmopolitain.
Some nice features were the buffet breakfast (although the coffee machine appears to have some issues), the cookies at reception and the free cocktail vouchers in our room. The Berrocca in the room would have been a nice touch if it were not off.
All in all, we had a pleasant stay.
Thank you

Thank you

The hot air balloons go up very early & must be perfect weather conditions. So, from this hotel it’s rare that you will see them. Also, have to be very lucky to see kangaroos here too. They do not frequently roam around here.
Yes, they have 2 pet friendly rooms, set a little apart from the main buildings. Both rooms are together and share a grassed courtyard that is fenced though I think the back section is just a hedge so not completely secure. It does cost extra and they only allow small dogs which is understandable. The hotel is gorgeous, can absolutely recommend.
The bar/lounge is open 24 hours. The restaurant is open for buffet breakfast then again for lunch & dinner (till a10pm I think).
Sorry for late reply. We had a king bed. There were adjoining rooms. Perhaps you can contact Sebel Kirton directly for more options.
