Detailed Reviews
The problem we have with the Hunter Valley Resort is in the name. If you are looking for a 'Resort' for rest and recreation this isn't it. The Hunter Valley 'Resort' is essentially a fussed up Motel. We booked a Vineyard Room, which was large, perfectly clean, and had sliding doors that opened onto a belt of soft grass with a bit of a view. The water pressure in the shower was nonexistent but other than that no complaints for a night or two. The car parking was directly in front of our motel unit, which made for easy access to the unit with luggage. There is a small swimming pool which is probably packed during school holidays and there is also a paddock walk to enjoy. All in all the Hunter Valley Resort is perfectly fine if you are not looking for high-end accommodation or self-contained accommodation on the Hermitage Road in the Vineyards at Pokolbin.

Traveling around Australia and decided to stay in the wine region. Thought we were staying on a vineyard but no wine is actually produced here. The couple of rows of vines apparently just for decoration and to talk about, shame. A good wine tasting experience with a knowledgeable guy. I was very surprised that I could actually buy wine produced in the Hunter Valley region cheaper in the uk than I could in the Hunter Valley. Accommodation was nice with views over open countryside but furniture was very tired and a shiny pine table in our room was in very bad condition. There was no safe in the room so valuables felt very vulnerable. Unfortunately because of bush fires and Coronavirus the resort was very quiet and it felt quite soulless. First night we ate in the restaurant we were told as it was quiet they would be closing early so we had to book for 6 pm! A bit early for us and there were only 4 other people dining. There was a storm the first night and it took out all the power and water til 11 am the next day. We went out for the morning and all other wineries had generators so had power and water. We felt it was a shame that Hunter Valley Resort hadn’t invested in a generator too. Pool area was nice and we had it to ourselves but unfortunately, although it was still sunny, we were told we had to leave as receptionist was leaving in the afternoon. Overall a pretty location with great views and a good base to drive around the Hunter Valley.

Hunter Valley Resort is located in the heart of Pokolbin, good place to start exploring Hunter Valley.
The rooms are spacious and have a nice outlook over the property. Rooms are looking a little tired and could be somewhat cleaner but overall represent good value.
The 3KM walk around the property is worth doing but be careful of the horse poo towards the end of the walk as the track is shared with horse riders.
We had dinner and drinks at onsite restaurant Matilda Bay Brewery which was very good, interesting menu and flavours- make sure you book restaurant.

Originally booked online with the impression that we would be staying at a resort with breakfast included. Found out that the resort was motel style accommodation with building work going on. Breakfast was based on a voucher system that ensured you had to pay double if you wanted anything more then toast. walls between rooms was very thin and we could hear the other guests.
The reception provided a list of rules and conventions that made me feel like I needed a lawyer present. Any issue was referred to a supervisor who was never onsite. Upfront payment just means you never see your money again- won’t be back. I did like the cold pool and the library, house keeping was great but they don’t replace anything like the milk or coffee

We (three blokes a boys trip) traveling in a motorhome heading out to do the Darling River Run. Well first night was a stop at Hunter Valley Resort, lucky the motorhome was less than 8 meters so we had a great parking spot with power and water close by. We also hired a room one of the blokes was not quite ready for the motorhome sleeping and he was the one that snored. The room was clean and very well presented. We had dinner at the restaurant service was good and the food superb. I would recommend this resort and will defiantly return.

Stayed here the one night
And honestly it did the job but for the money you pay I would have much rathered one of the other locations in the hunter valley that include breakfast and much nicer facilities for basically the same price.
This place was very average but felt much more like a $100 motel not a $200+ resort
Spent most the night waking up as I could hear the people in either room next to me moving and talking (the walls are thin)
The shower itself had inconsistent pressure
Was unable to sustain hot temps, kept dropping to cold mid shower.
The rooms felt very bare minimum, they were clean but everything felt very old.
The staff were very helpful and friendly which was probably the only good thing about the location.
A few of my friends stayed in a resort further down the road for $30 a night more
Which included an amazing breakfast and much better rooms and views.
In the future I'll stay there I think.

We booked a room with Hunter Valley Resort in advance and paid upfront as many of us do. Due to the COVID-19 cluster lockdown, we were forced to stay at home and cancel our booking 2 weeks before the due arrival. As soon as lockdown began and stay home provisions were instructed by the government, we contacted the place right away and informed the of our unfortunate situation the necessary cancellation of our whole holiday. The response we received was harsh and soulless, the owner refused to refund our money for the booking despite giving almost 2 weeks notice. She did not offer a partial refund, voucher, other dates or even apology for not being able to refund the money and the response lacked empathy given the situation we found ourselves in. They did not appear to care about customer satisfaction or experience so be careful with this place. We won't recommend anyone to be treated this way so stay away and book a different place where you can relax.

At best a motor lodge. Extremely thin walls so you hear everything your neighbours are doing and saying. Shower noise really bad from neighbours. Bed was hard and pillows flat. Expensive for what was provided and given the current circumstances not willing to refund money if you can’t travel. We had another couple who couldn’t come for our weekend away. Their room was booked out to someone else but the motel will not refund their money.
Vineyard view rooms offer no real view.
Service at the restaurant non existent. People friendly but no care provided. Had to ask three times for water to our table. Breakfast ok but half cold. Dinner meal was nice but again worst service we have experienced in some time. Wrong wine brought to the table and basically snatched back and the correct one slapped on the the table with a “there you go” comment. Had to ask for more glasses for the red wine and no effort to pour at the table. Could have been at McDonald’s for all the wait staff provided. Won’t be back.

We bought two couples' deals with Groupon for 2 night stays at this resort. Set in the middle of Pokolbin Hunter Valley wine country, it is great mid- range accommodation. There is a 'wine theatre' & tasting available here, a pool & other adventure activities on site through different companies. Horse riding (lots of various packages & times available); Segway tours & help booking winery tours.
The deal we got was great value. The restaurant is high-end & perhaps a bit expensive for some but enjoyable at least once during your stay. Ample parking; good basic rooms.

I've given this 5 stars as the overall experience was worth 5 stars. We stayed for 2 nights. On arrival we were a little apprehensive as the room seemed a little tired, but on looking around we found little touches that would not have been out of place in a top hotel. This is the first hotel on our journey around Australia that has provided biscuits and two comfy chairs. Room was large, bed extremely comfy, yes TV was a little small but ok. You are provided with a wine experience and tasting, which was really informative. Food and drink is of good quality and reasonably priced. All staff really friendly. Would not hesitate to recommend.
