My 7 day retreat at Elysia is nearly finished and I’ll be sad to conclude such an amazing experience. I came suffering from extreme burnout during career transition and wasn’t sure what I could get out off time here, other than eating amazing natural food and getting lots of sleep. But I got oh so much more. The staff are friendly, kind and thoughtful. The other guests became firm friends. The communal atmosphere (best experienced through the week rather than the weekend influx) was amazing. Other pros:
SPA: I thoroughly enjoyed two facials and two massages. Special shout out to Scott who gave the firmed massage I’ve ever had and I loved every moment. On one of my non-treatment days, I simply enjoyed the steam room and jacuzzi. Utter bliss.
VILLAS: recently renovated and very comfortable beds. The bathrooms were huge and the valley views expansive. They were serviced daily plus a turn down service with occasional treats (pillow mist, bath salts) left on my pillow).
FOOD: plenty of cold options plus one hot option for breakfast. One option for lunch (single course) and dinner (two courses). I really enjoyed all the food with the barramundi a true standout. Morning and afternoon tea was usually delicious too.
ACTIVITIES: I’ll admit I did far less activities than most but my burn out has been extreme and I knew I needed to prioritise rest. I did try most things though: yoga, tai chi, brisk walks, myofacial stretching, relaxing stretching, meditation, musical healing, feldenkrais and Pilates and enjoyed them all. Also attended mostly of the daily health seminars and evening activities. I loved the program.
GUESTS: most of the other guests had been at least once, if not many times, before and it’s easy to see why.
There weren’t many cons. Perhaps some updated interior decor around the library and spa entrances and reception. And improvements to the walking track up to meditation hill as others have pointed out. But these things are minor. Some people may see no caffeine/alcohol/sugar and min internet as a downside but I enjoyed a break from these things.
I’m lucky I don’t live too far away - I feel recharged and will be back! A week-long stay was certainly an investment in myself and my health (difficult to do with three children and hubby at home) but I can’t think of any better way to get yourself back on track.

We purchased a 2 night weekend package to Elysia Wellness Retreat. Amidst the stress of Covid, I wondered how the weekend away would be impacted. From the moment we arrived, we felt totally comfortable in the knowledge that the retreat was absolutely pristine, clean and followed all the rules and requirements necessary to create the ' safest' environment as possible.
Meals were served in 2 sittings in order to comply with social distancing. The one meal was more delicious than the previous. Portions were generous and beautifully presented.
The facilities were fabulous and, whilst there was a focus on healthy activities, one was able to chill and relax in the comfortable lounge or looking out onto the countryside. We loved the fireplace.,
Activities included walks, yoga, tai chi, meditation, stretch classes, cardio classes, fit ball, deep water running and some others. A guest speaker ended the evening.
Whilst we only had 1 treatment at the Spa, it was fabulous. The facilities there included 2 indoor pools and a steam room which was great.
Coupled with the friendly and obliging staff, the comfortable rooms and the ease of accessibility from Sydney, we shall certainly be back.

What a stay! I have left Elysia feeling extremely relaxed, yet energised and feeling the best i’ve been in a while.
The planned activities in the daily program had the perfect combination of high intensity and low intensity/relaxing activities which have left my body, mind and soul feeling totally refreshed. This, I can also highly attribute to the amazing staff. Big shoutouts to all of the friendly staff. Mel (activity cooridinator) was spectacular. Her tireless enthusiasm during planned activities and unwavering dedication to guests throughout the day left a really great impression on my friend and I which enhanced my experience. We were also very impressed with all of the spa staff. Especially Kayla, for the super relaxing Organic Spa Experience which left me feeling amazing.
Craig Hamilton, guest speaker, was fantastic. His story touched many guests and was a big eye opener for many of us. His friendliness towards guests and personally engaging with him over breakfast was also a great enhancement to my experience.
The food was another highlight. The food was clean, yet extremely delicious with ample portions which made us feel more than satisfied. Attention to dietary requirements and catering for this was second to none. Kitchen staff plus highly attentive servers did a great job.
The only downside to the trip was the room/villa. Basic repairs prior to our stay could have made us feel more comfortable. For example, some items which left a bad impression included: a broken shower head, broken light fixtures and loose tap handles, broken microwave and clothes dryer in the kitchenette. Beds were also extremely hard which caused difficulty sleeping and back and neck pains.
Further, better attention to detail was required with housekeeping. The room was not consistently cleaned to a high standard, dust was high and hair would occasionally be left on the bathroom floor. We also ran low on basic bathroom amenities (such as soap) and had to call reception to request this - this is something that should have been noticed and replenished by housekeeping before a guest notices and needs to make the request.
Overall, I would recommend this experience to family and friends (should issues with room be resolved to ensure a more comfortable stay).

I regretfully am writing this review as I had great expectations for this place and was extremely disappointed. I have been to many different health retreats in Australia and overseas and understand that they are all different and offer unique experiences. However Elysia is not an experience I would want to relive. The only good thing I have to say about this place is that the staff are lovely and some of the circuit classes are great. The facilities however are tired, in desperate need of an update or if the hotels budget doesn’t allow this they definitely need to have the furniture and carpets steam cleaned. My skin was crawling sitting on the sofas in the day spa as they were filthy. I believe they once may have been an orange colour but have turned a grimy brown colour. The dining area reminds me of a run down nursing home with chairs that were in need of new upholstery and guests were taking sofa cushions and placing them on the dining chairs to be able to sit comfortably as there was no cushioning left after years or wear and tear. The dining tables are all peeling and I actually got splinters in my hand from the table surfaces because the lacquer has peeled off and the table tops are cracked and splintering. The food and meals are a whole other story. They claim to be sugar, caffeine and alcohol free which I was happy to endure as part of a detox experienced at other retreats but the meals were tasteless and very unappealing. The ingredients are not organic or made from whole foods and sourced from supermarkets brands. In that I mean the gluten free bread (which is normally baked by the house chef) comes from a packaged supermarket brand and the granola and gluten free cereals are poured straight out of cereal boxes and full of sugar. I know this because I asked the kitchen staff. the breakfast selection is more basic than a roadside motel. There are no fresh juices (or any juices available). and the morning and afternoon teas are only available when you ask for a serving which is kept hidden behind the receptionist desk and would consist of a piece of fruit or a small shot cup of nuts. I feel that the seminars were also very basic and dumbed down and not very informative. However the seminar on “breathing” was educational. As I said before I really wanted to love this place so I could return on a regular basis due to its close proximity to Sydney but I couldn’t in good conscience give it a good review that would lead to another person being disappointed after paying five star prices. I really hope that they get a real chef in to create more tasteful and organic meals using and supporting local growers with seasonal produce and at least two options per meal.
As for the facilities, I understand that times might be tough and financially not the time to update their furniture but the least they could do is get them steam cleaned. I would have taken photos to go with my review but you are not allowed to have your phone with you in the common areas. I really do hope they get their act together but until then I would not recommend this place as a retreat.

Thank you so much for taking the time to leave your detailed review, and may we start by apologising that your experience did not reflect the true Elysia Wellness Retreat experience that typically our guests love and that we are very proud of. It is disappointing that we were unable to address these issues with you whilst you were with us here during your stay, as we would have loved to hear this feedback in person and talk through it with you. We always welcome constructive feedback and use it as a means to continue to develop our team and guest experience. We would have loved to have talked you through our covid-safe practices that have impacted some of our program and how we are navigating these to better offer excellence in service. We also would have loved to have shared with you our plans for Elysia’s upcoming refurbishment and show you our prototype villa, the first stage of which is set to be completed this year. Also, some of the information you gleaned from our kitchen staff doesn’t appear to be consistent with our processes (i.e. we source local and organic produce wherever possible, including from our own organic kitchen garden, we have a locally outsourced baker who has provided us with our gluten free baked goods for many years, and we make all of our mueslis from scratch on site, not sourced from supermarket brands). Thanks so much for bringing this to our attention, our kitchen have immediately looked into the source of this info and have made time to re-educate our team. Please feel free to reach out to us should you wish to chat more about how we are continually working to improve our guest experience. Thanks again for your feedback. WOW WOW WOW. My 78 year old Mum and myself came to the retreat over New Year for 7 days. It was everything and more than I expected. what I loved most was relaxed atmosphere, where you could do as little or as much as you liked. The food was amazing, very healthy and nutritious, but extremely filling, and an introduction to many foods I have never tried before. The staff were incredible, each and everyone of them,Incredibly friendly, insanely knowledgable, and so honestly caring of your well being. The rooms are something else. we certainly did not expect to have individual bathroom ensuites with full size baths attached to each bedroom!! The views were beautiful (none more so than the view from the top of mediation hill where the 6.30 Tai Chi class was held). The classes/ talks were SO GOOD! I loved the deep water running, the classes were so much fun, and my Mum also loved these. The Spa treatments and wellness treatments, were also of first class standard. The other thing I noticed was the people we met, all on a similar journey wanting to improve/ maintain their health. So many lovely stories and many laughs shared over meals and walks. There were people of all fitness levels and sizes, all with zero judgement, it was nothing to turn up to lunch/dinner in a bathrobe with greased back hair after a hair and body treatment, people were doing it all the time!! I will be back 100%. And probably bring some more family members of friends. Thank you Thank you Thank you for the best start to 2020 I could wish for.

Stayed for the weekend so my experience is only based on 2 nights at the retreat. The reception area and entrance are very impressive and the views are beautiful. Elysia is located up the hill from Cypress Lakes resort( I understand they are now owned by the same company). Being on the hill, Elysia has amazing views and villas 1-40 would have the best views in my opinion.
There is a wide selection of activities and due to Covid you must book ahead for all activities. Likewise at the restaurant, there are 2 seating periods for meals and you are allocated a time. There is no choice for hot meals , everyone is given the same( cater for dietary requirements) so a bit like school camp.I will summaries my thoughts below
Pros: views, large and spacious villas, Large bathroom ,healthy food, good selection of activities.
Cons: lacks the finer touches. The hotel would have been fantastic in its prime but needs upgrading. Marks on villa walls, cracked basin, minimal amenities ( full size pump packs in shower) no bath products. Fireplace not on at night despite being winter and no atmosphere in main lounge area in the evenings. Appears that when staff leave at 8.30pm, they would prefer everyone to be in their villas.
My spa experience was disappointing. I was expecting a more lux experience..I have never had a massage at a hotel where lights are left on, no music/candles/essential oils or offer of water to tea afterwards. It Felt more like a massage at a physiotherapist practice and the therapist appeared inexperienced
Overall Elysia is a health retreat so maybe my expectation of it being 5 star is the issue. I still enjoyed my experience but with some small additions it could be so much better .You pay Good $$ to stay here and it appears that cost cutting is evident.

Thank you for taking the time to write a detailed review of your recent stay, I am very sorry to hear that some aspects of your stay were not up to the high standard that we pride ourselves on here at Elysia Wellness Retreat. In regards to your spa experience I would love the opportunity to discuss this further with you as some of the treatments provided do have a more clinical approach as opposed to a relaxation experience, with all treatments provided by fully qualified team members. On a bright note we are very excited to advise that our villas are about to undergo a refurbishment with the first stage to be completed before the end of the year, our common areas will also receive a facelift over the coming 18months. I hope we have the opportunity to welcome you back in the future to show you a more fulfilling stay at Elysia Wellness Retreat experience. Kind Regards Amy O'Neill

This was my first stay at Elysia and I can honeslty say it exceeded all my expections.
I am "Young 60 something" married man with two grown up children, and one Grandson if that helps.
My goals were to trim up a bit (I dropped 4 kg) , get off the alcohol for a week (not a drop), change some long held habits (great sessions) and re-learn some key life lessons (great talks, walks and coaching), all in a 5 Star, secluded and natural environment (wonderful location) that I could easily drive to from Sydney (just on two hours), with real WiFi so I could make the one or two Zoom calls which I really needed to do (they all worked well).
Every aspect of my objectives and expectations were exceeded in my 7 day stay and I have no hesitation at all in recommending this place.
I will certainly return, hopefully with my partner as well who was "too busy" to join me this time which is a real Catch-22 as it was a wonderful experience!

This was my 2nd visit to Elysia after a year. Both times attended with a girlfriend. We enjoyed this visit immensely and felt at 'home' upon arrival at Elysia. Sometimes 2nd visits to destinations can disappoint, not so at Elysia.
An entire wellness experience is available with so many choices of physical activites, bush walks,
classes, and comprehensive spa and wellness menu. If you just want timeout, the well designed villa we stayed in has 2 bedrooms, both with their own king beds, full bathroom with separate vanity/ tub area, toilet and shower with great massage shower head. If you desire relaxation, a bath soak, or soak up magnificent views from the villa's large living area. From the verandah I enjoyed the fresh bush air and birdsong every morning. Communal spaces and a library offer lovely relaxation areas along with outdoor green spaces. Meditation hill is a lovely short walk to the peak with 360 degree views. The activities program was on my list with so much to choose from it did not disappoint. The only problem was I needed more days to experience my favourite and new classes. Overall I enjoyed a balance of exercise, meditation , 3 spa treatments and a wellness treatment included in my 7 day package. To complete the package were chef created wholefood meals, delicious, nutritious and filling. Morning, afternoon tea and fruit available in-between meals.
There is nothing you have to do here... or, everything to do. I loved that I was free to choose whatever I wanted to do, no pressure, a true escape from everyday cares and obligations, while focusing on rejuvenation and a reset of the spirit. I had the best self care experience at Elysia. So grateful to the amazing staff that in my opinion are the key to manifesting and maintaining this unique, nurturing environment . Looking forward to my return visit to Elysia next year.

Elysia Wellness Retreat is in the most beautiful location, with majestic views from your villa. Once you arrive they consult with you to see what you want to get from your time and they tailor your stay to ensure that you are able to attend any relevant seminars/programmes to suit your needs. The food is delicious and plentiful, you have the option of eating in your room if you'd prefer. The spa/wellness treatments are divine and you can wear your robe and walk to the spa from your villa. There are various exercise options, starting with tai chi, deep water running, a walk and a stretch class. Then during the day you have of yoga, pilates, spin, functional fitness, tennis, meditation etc, there's also a gym and two pools. The staff are all friendly and approachable, nothing is too much trouble. This is the second time I've been to Elysia and I would definitely go again. Highly recommend it for a relax and reset.

Elysia Wellness Retreat is nestiled in the Hunter Valley and offers a sublime health and wellness experience for all who enter the doors. From the moment you exit your car to the conclusion of your stay you are treated with care, respect, and integrity. The food options were extremely healthy and very tasty. I purchased the cookbook to maintain the commitment to the healthy eating options. The staff were extremely caring, friendly, and supportive. The rooms were incredible offering great views of the valley. I would highly recommend Elysia as way to reconnect with you mind, body, and spirit. I will make an Elysia retreat as a regular appointment in my calendar.

You question indicates you think this is like a time-share holiday place, which is not my understanding. They take guests for a few days or a week or more, and you pay for that time plus whatever treatments you want. Please call their front desk and ask your question-- they are always helpful and will let you know if investment or time share is possible. Regards. Chris1557
We are looking forward to welcoming you to The Golden Door for your upcoming retreat stay. Our Spa team are more than happy to take your treatment preferences and explain a little more about a typical day's schedule. Please call and have a chat to our team.
All the rates are polished on their website, and if you are unsure just call them and ask. They are very helpful and obliging and will not try to pressure you into anything.
