Thanks to the other Trip Advisor reviewers who gave this place such a good wrap - I followed your advice and discovered my new go-to hotel in Melbourne. The Tolarno is certainly quirky, with out-there modern art on every vertical surface and many fun mid-century details in the rooms and corridors. But what I appreciated most was the generous size...

Corridors and the art seem to be the only thing boutique and cute. The room was old, the shower was filthy with mold and a droopy shower head, the mini bar was too expensive ($6 or $7 for a muesli bar?), the room looked like an 80's hotel that had a very budget makeover and it's really showing. For business...

I travel to Melbourne for business several times a year. Tolarno is my home away from home. I have been staying there for about three years now. It feels like a comfortable pair of old shoes. The staff are always friendly and helpful, the rooms are always clean & well cared for. The thing I like about it the most...

Two girlfriends and I stayed here..it is a quirky hotel with a warm feel. The walls on all floors are lined with bright artwork, which teams beautifully with the coloured walls and black carpet. The room was decorated well with quality furniture and a great kichenette. We stayed in a front room with a balcony facing Fitzroy street. It was...

In the heart of St Kilda with bars and restaurants close to hand and only a short walk to the beach. A little bohemian with plenty of original art on display in the hotel and rooms. The rooms are very well equipped with catering facilities, even an iron and ironing board and well serviced. However, we were travelling for a...

We've stayed many times now in the past year or two and select a larger studio suite which comes with a kitchenette, a second double bed and a balcony. The hotel features brilliant art in the rooms and corridors. A pasta restaurant has now opened on the ground floor which, although not connected with the hotel, serves reasonable quality pasta...

Although old & in need of some renovations, our room was clean, serviced daily, quiet & had everything we needed. Very convenient for where we needed to be in St Kilda at a great price. Would stay again.

My partner and I stayed here for a couple of nights mid-week, I loved it! Great artwork, surroundings were very bohemian like old style St Kilda, it had a quirky darkness to it that reminded me of a grungy (but stunning) live music space. The staff were helpful although the internet wasnt fast enough for me. But it was free...

Perfect location on Fitzroy Street. Found free parking (on weekends) around the corner. Stayed with my daughter in Suite B3 down in the Basement, based on staff recommendations. Loved it. Felt safe and at ease. Called to book directly after many confusing prices online. Staff kindly found the best room type for our requirements and matched the best online price....

Once an art gallery, cafe and private residence of flamboyant Melbourne artist Mirka Mora and her husband Georges, the Tolarno Hotel has always been a creative space in St Kilda. The tradition continues at Tolarno Hotel. In a salute to the charismatic Mirka, the hotel’s walls and halls are hung with striking artworks by emerging and accomplished artists, 150+ works in total including a number of Mirka’s – guest’s often comment that it’s like staying in an art gallery. Today our 4 star hotel awards 3 major student art prizes via the Victorian College of the Arts (VCA), Monash University and Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology (RMIT) and the yearly winners are exhibited in the hotel foyer for 12 months. Many of the artworks in guest rooms are prize-winning student paintings; the remainder are works by prominant local artists. Combine these striking surrounds with our friendly service, well-appointed rooms and suites and location in the heart of St Kilda’s dining and entertainment precinct and you have a stay like no other.
