The actual hostel itself is good. It is clean, warm, and in a good location. Unfortunately, the woman running the place seems determined to make guests feel as unwelcome as possible. Despite this, Peppertree is sadly probably the best hostel in Palmerston North.

Near to Broadway Avenue where you can find most restaurants. This place is for people on a budget. Place is homy and clean. Toilet is shared but tolerable. Room is small yet comfy. Parking is spacious. Overall, it is a good and CHEAP place to stay in Palmy.

Had a last minute double room for one night which opened out into the kitchen / dining area which was a little odd as you could hear others having breakfast. It also wasn't very welcoming, especially some of the signs dotted around the place. The lady owner seemed nice but slightly uptight. The most off putting thing for us was...

After reading some of the reviews of this hostel, I wasn't too keen on staying. But I was most definitely wrong. When I arrived, I rang the doorbell on the house and waited for a couple of minutes as the office of the hostel was on the other end of the house. The door was opened and I was warmly...

Why go into the hostel business if you resent the presence of paying guests? The stay from start to finish we were made to feel so unwelcome as if we were burdens to the hosts just by being there. The hostel itself is so nice and could be such a good place but the owners are runining the experience for...

Worst costumer service ever.I had to wait 20 minutes at the front door no one ever opened. They don't answer the phone. And I was kicked out the hostel by 11am even though my bus was only at 5p.m. very rude staff members intentionally made me feel unwanted and unwelcomed. Worst hostel I've ever stayed in.

When we arrived at the hostel the owner wouldn't stop commenting on my girlfriends choice of clothing. Put us on the back foot and was really strange. The owners were also skulking around while we were cooking so it felt like we were being monitored. The signs about the place we're insulting. Something about come 10am you must be gone,...

Very warm and accommodating villa with a nice spacious lounge area. But wow, the management and the signs around the place were overly hostile and condescending. On our first night, the fire in the lounge died out, so one of us topped it up with a log. The manager came to check it soon after, and outright yelled at us...

Didn't really have a welcoming feel at all, it was more like the owners were doing it for extra income rather than a passion for travel and travelers. Strange little signs everywhere, telling us things like how to make your bed, through to a rather rude sign basically saying at check out time, they don't want to see you again....

By reading the reviews I was expecting a filthy place with horrible staff but there weren't many other hostels to go to so we chose peppertree anyway. When We arrived we were gladly welcomed by a member Of staff. She was really helpful and pretty kind to us. We loved the place. Actually this was one of the cleanest and...

“I can't recall the number of the room, but it was a twin share that opened into the dining area. It was quite noisy in the morning and I felt a little uncomfortable leaving it to have a shower feeling the eyes of those having breakfast on me!”
