My husband and I were not feeling very well on this day of travel. We arrived early, but were welcomed with open arms by Sue & John. She upgraded us to the Milano room, as she had a cancellation. We basically slept the whole time we were there. It was so quiet and peaceful. It was just what we needed....

We had occasion to enjoy two nights with Sue and John in their beautiful, pastoral setting at the Totara Lodge in Whangarei. The room was lovely complete with a well-equipped en suite and with its own private deck overlooking the beautiful gardens, complete with pool and mini waterfall, along with grounds worth a leisurely walk. In addition to providing beautifully...

Stayed here for 2 nights on arriving from Auckland and en route to the bay of Islands. Felt very well looked after. Room well presented, very comfy bed and lovely gardens. We opted for an evening meal in with our hosts which was very good and had a lovely time. Lots of info re what to do in the local...

I stayed there for 3 weeks in Aug 13. Sue and John made me feel as homely as possible. Excellent location, cosy bed and wonderful facilities. I have no complaints and will be visiting again in 2014. Being a vegetarian, Sue took many extra steps to make sure that my vegetarian dinner was delicious. Caution: Don't tell the host what...

We stayed at Totara Lodge for one night before a dive trip in Tutukaka. Sue and John are excellent hosts who are so friendly and helpful: they gave us suggestions of places to eat in Whangerei (especially useful since we stayed on New Years Day when many restaurants were closed); made lots of recommendations for the next leg of our...

Sue and John were lovely hosts. Very friendly. Always made sure we were ok or needed anything. The lodge is located close to shops and not far from Whangarei within beautiful gardens. However mobile phone reception is poor (though not surprising for being in a rural area).

We stayed here for two nights en route to the Bay of Islands - a perfect stopping off place from Auckland. We were warmly greeted by Sue who provided a welcome cup of tea and biscuits on arrival. As we originally thought we were going to be late in arriving Sue offered to provide us with dinner. This was preceded...

My partner and I stayed with Sue & John for two nights and could not fault either the spotlessly clean and immaculate home nor the lovely warm hosts. A view to die for from every room ! We dined with Sue and John on the first night and enjoyed a lovely evening chatting for hours. The garden is simply a...

Although we arrived a bit later than we had planned, our hosts John and Sue, graciously welcomed us with a much appreciated glass of wine and an offer to join them for dinner. They went out of their way to make us feel welcome in their beautiful home. Our large comfortable bedroom, with its own private patio, overlooked their beautiful garden area....

My husband and I recently stayed at Totara Lodge Homestay. We certainly understand why Sue and John called it a 'homestay'. They made us feel very much at home and were great hosts.
