Had a very pleasant stay. The hostel seems very new and therefore rooms & bath are pleasant & clean. Staff is very friendly and provides helpful information about the whale/dolphin/seal trips. Free wifi, also in the rooms. Kitchen, lounge, and sundeck are a nice & spacious.

I normally only book BBH or YHA hostels as they normally come with a guarantee of a good place to stay. But this was a very busy few days for Kaikoura and everything was full, so went with the Fish Tank following the review in the Lonely Planet. It needed to be good as it rained the whole time I...

I can't find enough good things to stay about this place. Craig, one of the owners, checked myself and a few others in. His patience, good humour and clear explanations were helpful and I felt right at home immediately. Amazing location - directly across from the bus-stop, in the centre of town, 7 min walk from the Whalewatch. The lounge...

Stopped there on my trip in the South Island, after visiting many hostels. Booked this after reading the good reviews and was a bit disappointed. Don't get me wrong, the place was fine, just not more than average. The kitchen was decent, not a lot of seating there, and only 1 sink and 1 stove (with 4 flames). The lounge...

This hostel is great with really helpful, friendly staff! Fantastic location right in the centre of town with amazing views over the sea. The hostel has a big, well equipped kitchen; comfy living area & outside deck with BBQ. Rooms are nice, clean and modern. The best thing about this hostel though was the WiFi. It's the only place I've...

It was very clean and the owners were very very helpful. The kitchen was well equipped and there was free tea and coffee available. On our check out...

This hostel does it all really good: great and friendly staff, very nice communal areas, large and clean kitchen, comfy beds, several bathrooms, excellent central location, and all this for a great price! In addition, there are very good house rules which include no alcohol on the premises after 22h00 (or maybe 22h30 I cannot remember the exact time) and...

This was one of those places where you arrive and just like it right away. The staff is cleaning all the time so it's superclean, nice and simple dorms and a kitchen in the right size for the hostel. The best part was the lounge with many sofas, a table for dinner, lots of dvds and some games. Spent much...

First choice if you are taking an intercity bus to Kaikoura. The bus stops just at the doorstep. Good location in the main street of Kaikoura. The owner and the staff there are all helpful and friendly.

“If you don't mind to spend more but rather have more quietness, the private en-suite on first floor might be better.”

“I did the deep sea fishing trip. Was great pulling up the baskets and then cooking one for dinner that night. Doesn't get any more fresh 😊”

“We stayed in a 3-bed dorm on the ground floor for $60 per night in early January. Linens were clean and comfortable. Because the room was beside two bathrooms so it was quite humid and noisy, especially at night. The double room beside it looks like a much better choice (with its won bathroom)”

“For 5$ extra get double room. More space more privacy”

“I think the 3-bed dorm gives a possibility of a single bed, which I myself prefer. Otherwise the rooms do not really have views, but the lounge does, a nice one.”
