You can camp right by the sea around 25 mins from Kaikoura. This is right by the ocean trench that brings the sea life in to kaikoura. We parked our camper van right next to the short beach, had lovely sunset, wonderful sunrise, watched pods of dolphins jumping as they swam past in the morning. When we stayed it was a little busier than in the winter time, a great spot. A view straight out to sea and some seagulls to keep you company. Goose bay up the road also has cooking facilities and fridge freezer should you need them. When we stayed it was $12 per night per person, for a pitch with a...

We stayed here at the tail end of winter and there was no one around. Perfect location right on the beach 15 mins out of town so the only traffic at night is trucks, but didn't notice them. Excellent location right on the sea, perfect for fishing, boating, kayaking and diving. Has a toilet and sink onsite and a water supply, showers are on the main campground at goose bay about 1KM away.
