Hapuku Lodge was a destination point for us on our recent trip to New Zealand. We planned the trip before the earthquake that closed down the main road so we traveled long and hard on alternate roads to get there. With the extra mileage and...More
We had to fly from Blenheim to Kaikoura (and ship our bags separately) because the road was still closed due to the earthquake. So glad we did, despite the hassle with our bags, because Kaikoura may well be the prettiest place in NZ. A representative...More
The first night of our 3 day stay, we had a choice, as veggies, of two out of three dishes for the starters and one out of three for the main course. Promising!

Hapuku Lodge is still a tad remote as a result of the earthquake in 2016 but the 8 hour drive from Picton was worth it. The setting is sublime with the coast just to the East and the snow capped mountains to the West. We...More
As part of the recent Lions Rugby tour, this was included in our itinerary but we didn't know what to expect. A three hour minibus journey from Christchurch meant that it better be good. It wasn't just good, it was fantastic.

There is also very positive news that the main state highway south of Kaikoura (SH1) is likely to be opened before the 20th December.
You could also look at taking a helicopter or fixed wing flight in and out. I can highly recommend this as a way to see the coastline, and is a wonderful experience. Hapuku are offering a significant subsidies for this as I am aware it can be expensive. Trailfinders should be able to give you the full information on this, let me know if they cannot. If you have car hire I am sure they can look at changing it around. It is not like you need it at Bay of Many Coves anyway, and they have a helipad.
