After driving more than 2 hours in a terrible storm from Christchurch, the Hapuku Lodge was a welcome sight. We were welcomed with open arms and showed to our huge room. The room was nicely appointed with snacks and wine. The bathroom was beautiful. We...More
This was a 2-day splurge, on our 25-year anniversary, 3-week tour of New Zealand and it was everything we hoped for. Private, intimate, peaceful and luxurious. You have to know that everything about this resort is sublime. We kept noticing new details each day and...More
Absolutely fantastic!!! Scores 10 out of 5 at least in our opinion! We were welcomed on arrival, shown around, and shown to our tree house. Wow - what an experience! Lovely room, with views of the mountains and the olive grove, with the sea in...More

I am a travel agent and this is the advice we received: Road access to Kaikoura continues to be impacted with the inland road route now open for scheduled journeys. Please refer to the NZ Transport Authority website for further details.
There is also very positive news that the main state highway south of Kaikoura (SH1) is likely to be opened before the 20th December.
You could also look at taking a helicopter or fixed wing flight in and out. I can highly recommend this as a way to see the coastline, and is a wonderful experience. Hapuku are offering a significant subsidies for this as I am aware it can be expensive. Trailfinders should be able to give you the full information on this, let me know if they cannot. If you have car hire I am sure they can look at changing it around. It is not like you need it at Bay of Many Coves anyway, and they have a helipad.
