We stayed in the two bedroom apartment and were very happy with everything about this cute little motel. Rooms were spotless, bathroom adequate for three people and the beds very comfortable. The owner was delightful and gave us helpful ideas about what to do in town. Nice amenities and free movie rental! If the weather was warmer, the pool would...

My family stayed one night at the Gateway Motor Lodge while visiting Kaikoura. It's really well located, just a short walk to the main street with all the shops and restaurants. The hosts were so helpful and gave us a fantastic room upstairs with beautiful views over the water and mountains. We had a two bedroom apartment which was a...

Spent a night here with our Friends from England the week the whale watching started again. We had a spacious clean and quiet room. We wish the owners all the best for the coming year and hope that plenty of good positive advertising will bring the people back to Kaikoura. The road from Christchurch is very good with only 2...

We recently stayed at the Gateway Motor Lodge and found it really good. Close by to some great walking / biking routes. Great location to walk into town for a meal. Pool was good after some hot busy afternoons!! Thanks again to the hosts who are doing a really good job.

We stayed in Kaikoura only 6 weeks after the Earthquake. The town has suffered but they are still rebuilding and we are so glad we didn't cancel our trip. We stayed for 4 days. Some shops and restaurants and pubs were still closed but we managed to have great food wherever we went. The Gateway Motor Lodge was very good....

It's nice and clean. I like that it has light heater in the bathroom. You can cook in room. They also have a coffee press pot with ground coffee bean for you. Some rooms can see snowcap mountain view.

One night stay and very happy. Slightly out of town so transport advisable but young folk could walk to town. Hosts are knowledgeable and helpful. Clean and good rooms. If your unit faces the room it can get a little loud from trucks going past - if you need desperate rest suggest you ask for a back unit. Would stay...

We got the upper level (with balcony) - awesome mountain view! Plus points: - strategic location (near Kaikoura town centre) - clean room, pantry and bathroom - spa inside the bathroom (after long tracking and driving, soaking in spa is just awesome!) - there's a small pantry with small fridge, electric stoves, pots and pans, cutlery, etc - clean bed...
