Detailed Reviews
stayed in this hotel for one night en route from auckland. It is on the yellow bus route from Auckland airport but is the furthest away and takes 40 to 50 minutes each way. It looks like its on an industrial estate and we didnt see any shops nearby, unlike some hotels en route who had shopping centres nearby.
After seeing some other other hotels en route, we were expecting great things. It looks like a rundown motel from the outside. our room was ground floor, with car park outside our window. the window/ patio door was only lockable with a small bolt and was dirty with cobwebs and dust. There were blackout curtains. The room had kettle, tea, coffee, creamer and a microwave. The bedside lamps also had a charging point on them which was useful. On entering the room it was dark with a brown carpet and the bed linen had dirty stains to sheets and pillowcases. Housekeeping to their credit changed the entire bed within minutes and even changed the pillows for me. The bed was surprisingly comfortable. bathroom and towels were clean. there was a tv, hairdryer and 2 chairs in the room. it wasnt the quietest of hotels but it was ok for the one night we stayed there. it was cheap and therefore you get what you pay for. For me it was just too far from the airport.

Room was just adequate, outdated furnishings, walked through what seemed like a rabbit warren for quite a distance to get to my room. Once in room I pulled curtains aside to reveal a disgusting court yard, grass was knee high, holes kicked in lattice, tarp over what was supposed to be a pool/spa, building materials strewn throughout court yard absolutely pathetic.
To top it off, the Indian "gentlemen" (to be polite)that recieved me at the reception desk was extremely RUDE and impatient and should not be in the hotel/motel business.

Dear Valued Guest, we take great pride in our property Thank you for your comments about the standard of maintenance. This is of a major concern to me. You can see by our other reviews that standards – we invest a lot of time and money to ensure our building remains spick and span. I have addressed your concerns with our Maintenance Manager and will follow up personally to understand what we can do better as a property. It is disappointing to hear that our standards were not up to par. We have undertaken a comprehensive training scheme with our staff in regards to customer service and the next time you are at our property there will be noticeable differences. We look forward to welcoming you back in the near future. Regards Hotel Manager

Hotel is of poor standard, needs renovation asap ,lives on the fact it’s local to the airport, charge’s far too much for the rooms .
Rooms are tatty, furniture would not be taken by the local charity shop.
Restaurant is like having school dinners, menu is limited, although I did enjoy the curry.
Bar has absolutely zero atmosphere..
Can’t wait to get out of here

On the Saturday 26th September 2020. My self, wife, 12 month old
daughter, sister and 3 year old nephew stayed at one of your hotels
(Airport Gateway Hotel Auckland) . We were disappointed as soon as we
arrived for check-in when we had to wait 15 minutes at the reception
for someone to turn up.
An hour into our stay music was played loudly from our neighbouring
rooms and people were drinking from their cars outside our room. This
made it difficult for our kids to sleep.
While checking up on our daughter, we found a bed bug next to her
face! (See attached photo proof of this) The big one looked swollen
and full of blood, us believing it was fresh from biting my daughter.
While looking for other bedbugs we found two blood spots at the foot
of the bed sheets. This is disgusting and very unhygienic.
My wife then went to reception to explain our issues and the man on
the desk offered us a different room, she didn’t receive any apology.
We obviously declined this offer, if one of the rooms has bedbugs it’s
likely multiple rooms do as they spread extremely easily (my wife
works in a hotel so is aware of how bedbugs spread)
Then I went to reception to ask for a refund, and if they could call
another hotel to book us in for the night at this stage it was
11.30pm. I still didn’t receive an apology but got told all other
hotels were booked. The man kept repeating how they cleaned the rooms
everyday and instead for us to be moved into another room which we
didn’t want to do.
As we packed our things and got ready to leave. We received a call
from the reception that they can rebook us for the hotel next door but
we had already made the decision to go home. We noticed my sister's
room had a paper towel crammed into the door latch hole (so the door
can be pushed in while locked) . We think people do this to break into
rooms which made us feel even more uncomfortable and uneasy for
ourselves if we stayed, and future guests.
We are very disappointed with how the situation was dealt with and
that we had to cut our holiday short by a few days and drove back home
to Rotorua after midnight which was a 3 and a half hour drive with two
frustrated kids. When we got home we had to clean our clothes, get our
car professionally cleaned to ensure we don’t spread the bugs back
home. Which was a hassle and overall a very unpleasant experience. Proof of photos taken and can be attached

My bf and I stayed here from the 6 Feb to the 14 Feb, believe me i will never forget the following people Tanika, Angela and Pauline, i love yous so much!! You were all so welcoming, warm and friendly it almost made us feel as if we didn't have a home to go to that's how pleasantly happy we were and it was funny everytime we heard the cleaning happening in the hallway i would come out just to say hi. People don't appreciate how much work it takes and effort put in to change bedsheets, do a room up etc, kudos to you botj beautiful ladies always know we appreciate you both and thank you for making us feel at home Angela and Pauline. Tanika you completely assisted us in everything we needed, i gave feedback to you and you made it a positive thing showing your professionalism and i thank you for this, trust me if it was anyone else i would complain but because it was you at reception, i saw you as a lovely individual just doing her job and i appreciate your hard work also. All you ladies are a blessing to this hotel and only due to you 3 we will always be returning here. We are the couple who had the apples and brownie and the loud girl who always spoke to yous everyday lol! Great service and best stay first visit and no regrets at all, the only regret is we made a stupid decision to go to Kiwi Hotel down the road who were completely appalling, curtains torn, messed up room, everything was old and rusty if you broke anything your bond is gone basically. Thank you for making our stay enjoyable, we will be back but definitely could we get the big room with a kitchen. Thanks heaps ladies and keep up the fantastic work, Kina and Walter will be back soon 😁

+1
This place is filthy, cockroaches in the room. Obviously the doors have been compromised previously, they didn't even put ranchslider deadbolts for safety. Ranchslider leads out to a dark, unsafe, potholed carpark
Pillows didn't have protectors on them so i used my husbands T shirt as a pillow. TV didn't work and the room was noisey
We paid for a full breakfast, we were informed that they don't do breakfast before 7am so if you have an early flight you're clean out of luck... or maybe they will supply you with a 'packed breakfast'. Weetbix with not enough milk to soften them, warm yogurt, canned pineapples and thin sliced bread to make toast, however there is no toaster in the room, that you have to borrow from reception
Staff were inhospitable, the male behind the counter never spoke, never made eye contact. We complained to Expedia but were told that because they compensated us with a packed breakfast they would not refund us. Not the fact that the place was filthy and looks to be used for emergency housing. Never ever would I stay here again. Whatever happened to the Kiwi host program, absolutely needed in this case, seems any Tom, Dick or Harry can run a hotel.
I would give you a zero

I booked a one night stay for 2 adults 2 children through Webjet, affordable price at the time of booking.
A $200 bond is required if you don't have a credit card for incidentals, it did state on Webjet that a cash deposit may be required, it does not state how much, please take extra cash with you.
I had rung around 3pm to see if the room was ready for check in, it was not ready, I went in around 4.10pm and the receptionist had to ring around to see if the room had been cleaned, it had just been finished - not entirely happy about that as check in is from 3pm, I am paying full price for a room from 3pm to 10am the following day.
The lady on the reception was quite condescending and vague in her responses when I questioned her around the bond, she gave brief general responses with no context.
I went to my room which is a 2 bdrm apartment, I took a video as I do when staying in other accommodation where a bond is required for proof of any damages etc, the room does not look as clean or luxurious as it does in the photos online, which is misleading. The room had a stench & my daughter nearly slipped over in the bathroom as it had just been mopped, there were no wet floor signs for health and safety.
The microwave was not clean or wiped down and had an unclean smell to it, on the bottom of the ranch slider and the wall next to it, food or liquid had been spilled over it, it had dried up so had been there for awhile.
Netflix did not work only basic tv, I had come up for a funeral and needed a place where my family could relax after a long day and we couldn't settle properly.
The two cleaners I met in the hallways are very welcoming and kind, they helped me to find my way around the hotel as I got lost trying to find my room, although they were busy they kept a smile on their face and I appreciate the brief exchange with them.

Was planning to stay 2 nights at Airport Gateway and then 10 nights at Ibis Auckland Airport (which is where I normally stay) however after a night I decided to cancel Ibis and continue here.
Being Covid times I brought cleaning wipes with me and first thing was to wipe down all the surfaces. The wipes remained clean which, in my mind, said things were already clean. There were a couple of things that I did raise with reception re bathroom mirror not clean and it appeared a previous guest had rolled up some bedding and stuffed it in the top of the wardrobe. I got an apology and things were rectified quickly whilst I was out.
Parking was ample however the drive to the back area is riddled with potholes so be careful.
Air Conditioning was fantastic and bed was comfortable and sheets crisp and clean.
After a couple of days I put the sign out to make up room and returned to cleaned room but bed still unmade. Questioned with reception and apparently the cleaning staff are cautious with covid and you have to request a full clean via reception. No problems there.
Restaurant isn't very appealing and lacking atmosphere. Muggy and hot. Limited menu and average food, although I had the goat curry one night which was a winner!!! Chef is smiling and pleasant but runs the show by himself so can sometimes take time if he has a few orders at once. Breakfast is great.
Overall I'm glad I changed my booking to stay here longer and I would consider staying here next time also. Needs a bit of maintenance here and there (chipped cabinets and ripped wallpaper in corridor), but still clean and comfortable with friendly staff.
Would definitely recommend.

For one night stay this place was very convenient and of a great value. Ten minutes ride on a free (yellow color) bus from the airport. Staff were friendly and helpful. The room was clean and big, the bed was comfortable. A large bathroom with all the necessary amenities,. Wi-Fi was quick, no problem at all. Also not far away from the town itself, about 40 minutes ride on a bus (from a close bus station) and a train to Auckland's Britomart Station. I would definitely recommend this hotel and would stay there again.

With the new rule of non residents not interring the country, our long haul flight was 2 hours late and therefore, our flight from Sydney was also delayed. Was very easy getting the yellow bus (no need for pay if you said you had a booking), arriving early in the morning. We phoned twice to the number in front of the hotel, then started knocking loud on the glass doors and at last, had somebody opening the door of a 24 hour open, front desk hotel. Being tired and in need of a shower, this was horrible. Our room was extremely clean and tidy with good toiletries and a coffee station. Wi-fi was good. We had a good few hours of rest. Unfortunately did not get the promised wake-up call. Again easy to get the yellow bus back to airport.
