We stayed in Room 15, a Wine Experience Suite with a large balcony offering views over the vineyard. The room was one of the best we have stayed in. Huge windows and lovely decor and design. The grounds are expansive with the central building housing the reception, restaurant, bar and spa. It might not look much on the outside but it's a big and beautiful building inside. The pictures perhaps don't do it as much justice as it deserves. The hotel rooms are in different parts of the grounds, a short walk away from the main building. Some are a little further away than others, but the furthest away was a pleasant 7min walk. For us, the size of the site was all part of the charm as it felt quiet and isolated a lot of the time. The staff said they will happily pick you up in a golf cart if you wanted, but we didn't need to utilise it so not sure how reliable/quick it is. There is a large car park near the main building as well as smaller car parks at each of the other buildings.
The staff in general were fantastic. We had booked a wine tasting experience but on the day my wife was ill but they let us cancel without charging which was really appreciated as they didn't have to. We took the half board option. Breakfast was really good with a variety of different foods, hot and cold. The dinners were good - without being exceptional. There was a choice of 2 or 3 options for each course so as long as you aren't fussy, you'll probably find something you like. The spa was great. The first day we were there it was really busy (and really hot) and hard to get a chair outside and the pool was full. Worth noting that you need to wear a swim cap for the indoor pool (I didn't as I have no hair). They do sell caps there if needed but at a premium. The next 2 days were much quieter outside and we easily managed to get a chair with umbrella/shade. FYI. The sat nav in our hire car didn't take us to the door, but there are blue signs directing you when you get close. You will certainly need a car to get there but the roads aren't that bad... I've certainly driven on much worse! Overall we had a fantastic time at Monverde and it's great for a peaceful and relaxing retreat.

Initially had scheduled a wine tasting with accompanying aperos; tasted 5 wines guided by a very knowledgeable Renata, who really enhanced the experience. Then we had a nice lunch followed by a spa treatment. We had such a great experience that we returned the following day and booked a 1-night stay at the hotel. We ore-ordered the 4 course, vegetarian tasting menu which sounded more interesting than that of many other restaurants. Our charming and very professional waiter, Bruno, took very good care of us and the food was very good (along with the wine pairings). The hotel rooms all have beautiful views of the vineyard and were very comfortable. Breakfast was included; a buffet with plenty of choice. Highly recommend, and we would like to return.

When we arrive at the Monverde Hotel, the natural beauty of the property is marked by the vineyards.
The prestigious room where we had the pleasure of staying for two nights had large glass doors with a magnificent view, in total comfort.
Our tasting experience was very good across the different dishes, under the guidance of chef Carlos Silva and his talented and friendly colleague Inês, who we had the pleasure of meeting. In the beautiful room of the Monverde restaurant, regional cuisine prevails, it is intense in flavors, and is accompanied by pairing with the wines that are produced here.
We found the water temperature in the pool at the spa not very comfortable (cold!!) for optimal relaxation.
The friendliness of all employees deserves our special emphasis and thanks.
Thank you for the excellent stay, with the promise to return

This is not a five star hotel. This is a complete lie. Where do we start? My mom and I had to carry our bags to the golf cart because only young girls drive and bring you to the room. The girl who drove us was driving like crazy, putting our lives at risk, very scary driving. After that we went to the wine tasting that the hotel offers, a tasting of five wines. The pricing is not clear - 25 euros per person, while the wine is very mediocre and a whole bottle from each glass we tasted costs about 4 euros. We took half board, dinner was terrible, with half board you only get three options for each course, and you have to wait about an hour between courses, we were exhausted and certainly the food was not worth the wait. And the service was appalling. We will continue to describe the bedrooms. Greed for its own sake, in everything. One roll of toilet paper per room, a couple of people should share one roll of paper, and of course also one key to the room. There are no attractions, of course no happy hour or movie screenings as written, just a bad hotel with horrible service. under any criticism.

Dear StavE21, Thank you for taking the time to provide us with your feedback on your experience at Monverde Wine Experience Hotel. Your opinion is crucial for us to improve how we work. Regardless of whether the hotel is a four-star rural hotel, the concierge service is provided according to the needs of each guest. We regret above all that the hotel did not live up to your expectations and we will continue to work to improve all our services. The hotel offers a number of different wine tastings and activities, which are clearly explained and include clear information about the cost of each one. The half-board service naturally has a limited number of options available when compared to the daily menu, in addition to the 3 tasting menus available, which we change daily. The themed programs are duly announced on the hotel website with the dates scheduled for each different program. I am at your entire disposal for any clarification and hope to have another opportunity to welcome you back to Monverde. Best regards, Miguel Ribeiro, GM

It had everything to be a fantastic getaway with the family but this hotel's flaws are too obvious. I booked 3 rooms in this hotel to take the family, as the rooms are really one of the few things that are worth it in this place. Firstly, the idea of building a hotel in several buildings separated by dozens of meters in the middle of the vineyards seems fantastic, if it weren't for the lack of conditions... When we arrived at the hotel, we were transported in one of the hotel's 5 or 6 cars and it was- He informed us that whenever necessary we could request a “ride” to travel within the hotel. In theory it's an excellent idea, in practice not so much as more than once there were no staff available for transport as they were busy and we had to come from the pool to the rooms in the rain and cold and, during that journey, a hotel car with two employees inside who were unable to ask us if we wanted a ride as they were traveling very close to our building. The SPA was another joke, one of the reasons we booked at this hotel was to take advantage of the SPA and the treatments, we were there for 3 days and there wasn't a single vacancy for us to do a massage for two people. Such a thing had never happened to me in a hotel. The indoor pool, on the other hand, had cold water, the surrounding environment was extremely hot but the pool had cold and uncomfortable water (it was enough to see how long the guests could last in there). Our room had a hot tub which, when we arrived, was dirty with fur, hair and even some yellow marks. Of the entire experience, I would say that the friendliness and effort of the staff and the dinner were worth it, thanks to the staff and manager, we had an impeccable experience. In short. The hotel idea could be good if they had enough staff to ensure the comfort of guests. Of the hundreds of hotels I have visited, this one, despite being beautiful and full of amenities, is a hotel where I will not return.

The beautiful place was a disappointment on several counts: The room for three only had towels etc. for two The extra bed was miserable The door between the two rooms was very heavy and almost impossible to open and close The staff was not top notch. Most of the communication was about how to behave - especially the spa area. They seemed angry. In the restaurant you had to ask for the wine list up to several times - and we got food poisoning The breakfast was fine, but the coffee did not come at the same time as the food - and it had to be moved
Too bad the lovely place wasn't more hospitable

The rooms and views were spectacular, making it worth the visit. Luona at the restaurant was superb and truly enhanced our experience. She was so knowledgeable about the wines and friendly. I will never forget her! She is a fabulous asset to the hotel.
On the other hand, for a “wine experience” hotel, this was not much of a wine experience. We asked well in advance to do a proper tasting/experience at the hotel and they could not offer us anything and were not very helpful. We then asked if they had recommendation of private tours we could do from the hotel and they gave us the information of a guy named Miguel, who was incredible. Highly recommend his services for a personalized day trip, away from the hotel.
We felt like every time we asked for something, the answer was “no”. Can we have a second towel at the pool? No. Can we have a water at reception? No. Can we use the hot tub? Yes, but you have to pay for a swim cap. Paid for the swim cap, and it wasn’t even a “hot” tub.
Overall, we had a great stay. There were some very simple things that could have increased the quality of service.

The hotel is made up of several buildings that do not communicate with each other and are some distance apart. It is a completely unsuitable hotel for winter. In other words, when it is raining, for example, to go from the room to the dining area, we either go in our vehicle or get rained on. It is really unpleasant to have to take the car (inside the hotel) every time we want to use any of the hotel's spaces. The same goes for the SPA and indoor pool. To be able to enjoy it, we always have to travel on foot (outside) or by car. It is inconceivable that we leave the heated pool, that we have to put on normal clothes and walk a few hundred meters to the room, from the outside. We didn't even go to the SPA or swimming pool, of course, with these conditions. The AC in our room did not fulfill its function at all. The room didn't heat up, we reported the situation to reception and they put an oil heater in the room. The rooms are very beautiful, spacious and comfortable, but the entire dynamics and structure of the hotel completely removes the desire to return (at least in winter). The restaurant is open to the general public, located at the bottom of the seating area, in an open space. This layout makes it impossible to rest or relax after 7pm in the living area. The staff are very friendly, at least that's worth it. Price/quality ratio is unsatisfactory. We won't be back.

A wonderful hotel in the vineyard with exquisite design. The rooms are nestled among the grapes and the nature feels always present. The hotel facilities are top and the staff very friendly. Had a very nice wine tasting guided by Daniela. Can just agree with all previous reviews that praise the hotel but have some points that I want to highlight. The restaurant served very good food and the staff was very friendly but the service was at times painfully slow. Mostly due to the hierarchic system among the serving staff. Only one person could sign and check the bill, only one could bring the pepper and salt. One evening we sat waiting in the lounge area to be seated watching the half empty restaurant. And around us we had five (!) waiters but none of them were able/allowed to show us a table. Make the restaurantorganisation more effective and you have a gem as a restaurant. And as mentioned the waiters are very friendly.
Finally an advice for female travellers ; Some of the hotel rooms are quite far away from the main building and the paths you walk to get there are cobble stoned so flat shoes are recommended.
Truly enjoyed our stay especially as it was harvest season

A verdant paradise 50 minutes from Porto, the Monverde Wine Experience hotel is a must-visit for wine lovers and the wine-curious alike. Nestled in rolling green hills and vineyards, the hotel itself is beautiful. We stayed in one of the very well furnished Vineyard Experience rooms, which had a stunning view over the vineyards, but everywhere you walk or sit is accompanied by a beautiful vista. Our room was spacious, quiet, comfortable and spotlessly clean, with ample storage for two people. The food and drink at the hotel is excellent, and exceptionally well priced (the wine made by the vineyard is to die for). We also enjoyed three of the hotels 'wine tourism' offers, which were fun, professional, and informative. We'd particularly recommend the Wine Blending experience, where you learn to make and bottle your own white wine to take home. Finally, huge praise must go to the staff of Monverde, who are amazing, and go out of their way to make your stay as relaxing and enjoyable as possible. Particular thanks to Luana, Maria, Bruno, Tiago, Sophie, and Renata (and to everyone else whose names we shamefully can't remember). Extra thanks to Ines for making us laugh every day. Five stars! *****
