I stayed here for five or six days. The house is old but very nice. Good view of Nelson and of the hills. The receptionist guy is very helpful and friendly, the same for the staff and woofers. There is a car park (5 or 6 places). The share room is nice, good view on Nelson. Great shower. Free breakfast... More

I was not drunk.I do not drink. However I was intensely irritated by their attitude. This group said they would be arriving around 11pm,2hours after closing time and I offered to stay up and wait for them.I asked them to call again just before arriving so I could re-open reception, assign them a carpark and let them in.Instead I find one of them... A friend and I used this as our Nelson base before and after doing the Abel Tasman Track. We stayed in both the 4 and 5 bed rooms. This is an old house and everything about it seems old, creaky stairs included. The shared bathrooms are well-kept and have some cool tile work. If you're looking for a cheap night... More

I came to stay back at The Palace Backpackers after a disastrous sojourn at another, totally egregious, Nelson accommodation facility. (Please read my review of it on this site). The Palace welcomed me with open arms, just like they do everyone. The majority of residents are permanent or semi-permanent because this is a home away from home. Except it looks... More

Great place! Besides the perk of no bunk beds, this place has so many great things going for it! The owner was surprisingly ready to pick my friend and I up from the iSite, welcomed us to the place and helped with bags. We also got to try some of the delicious baked goods he just picked up. The rooms... More

Very nice hostel, super friendly staff, you feel like in a Harry Potter house or something :) Cheap because you get free wifi and breakfast which is cereal and bread so nothing fancy but it's a nice gesture and for a backpackers it's very good!

Loved staying at The Palace! No bunk beds, free breakfast, free wifi, free bakery items in the afternoon. I stayed in the separate apartment style room off to the side which had it's own kitchen and bathroom - loved it and I suggest requesting it! I was in a 5 bed room and there was also a private room with... More
