Stayed a couple of nights in the new year (2 and 3 Jan, 2020). This I would deem as budget accommodation $85 - $110 / night ( weekday/weekend rates) Management and staff were friendly and helpful. Rooms, tho on the smaller side, were clean and tidy. Would happily stay here again

I needed somewhere to break my journey near the wineries. I'm fussy about cleanliness and had absolutely no complaints about this place. The bathroom was spotless, the sheets smelled fresh and clean and the bed was comfortable. The wifi worked, the tv reception was good and the area very quiet. The staff I encountered were friendly and helpful. Yes, it's old and worn but, given the price I paid, that didn't worry me.

I stayed at this motel for a week on my travels through NSW, and would definitely stay again. Bob and his wife were very accommodating and knowledgeable of the Hunter region. We stayed in one of the front rooms, but hardly heard any noise during the night, even with the windows slightly open, despite the motel being on the main road into Cessnock. Although you can easily drive past and miss it as the motel and its car park are set back from view.
The room itself was standard for a motel room - comfy bed, Aircon, small bar fridge, kettle, tea/coffee, good size shower, and a good size desk to work from. Internet access was also good, and they do have WiFi available.
Only downside most people would see is that there isn't much in walking distance, so you'll need to drive. The main centre of Cessnock is 5mins up the road, with supermarkets and restaurants around. Pokolbin is about 11kms up the road, an easy drive, where you'll find all the wineries - sone of which have restaurants also.
If I was coming back to the Hunter Valley again in the future, I'd definitely stay here again.

Thank you to Sonya & Ash for exceptional customer service.
Rooms immaculately clean and well presented. We enjoyed the common room facilities to eat our breakfast, lunch & dinner with our friends. Being able to BBQ our steak was terrific. Many thanks for the secure parking of our motorbike.

We booked a room with this motel well in advance so as to attend a family wedding.
Before our weekend away, we rang the proprietor, requesting access to our room for an hour to change for the wedding, we would then travel to the winery for the wedding, not returning till late evening. We arrived at the motel reception at 12.00 and was told we could not be booked in before 2.00pm unless we paid a early book in fee of $10.00 for every hour before 2pm
A female person appeared on the scene and was advised of our situation to which she replied " I don't care " we were denied a refund of our deposit of $52.50
We booked in to the Cessnock Motel a short distance away with out any problem and received excellent customer service and good Aussie hospitality

Stayed here for a weekend.

First room we got put in smelt really bad (sort of like BO and some sort of musty cupboard smell), but we got moved as soon as we asked.

We ended up getting a bigger room which was better - no smell at all!
The place is very much like a hostel, and very basic. But it did the job. Sheets, etc were clean.

Cessnock can be considered as a good starting point to visit Hunter Valley and Travellers Rest motel a good choice to rest a bit before your winery tour.
Motel rooms are huge, with big windows and a comfy - but unfortunately- old bathroom. If you need just a place to rest, have a hot shower and save some money, this will be the place!

We stayed in this motel for one night. Double room cost $120/night. (weekend) The motel is a few minutes drive from town, a little to far to walk so bear this in mind if you don't have a car.

The motel is clean and quiet. The owners were friendly.

The amenities in the room are VERY basic - it's more like a hostel than a motel. They provide towels and 2 small bars of soap but no other toiletries, not even a box tissues.

Tea, coffee, sugar, milk, kettle and small fridge are all in room. There was no iron/ironing board in the room which was an inconvenience as we needed to iron our clothes for a wedding.

The aircon in the room was efficient and there are relatively new flatscreen TVs with free-to-air channels.

The room we were in had a huge east facing window and the curtains did not keep out any light. I woke up very early in a very bright room.

The motel's website claims it is a bed and breakfast motel - it is not. They do serve breakfast but we were told the cost would be on top of the room rate. We ended up driving into town to eat.

It's a clean motel and is fine if you're looking for somewhere to put your head down, but if you're after more amenities shell out a few extra $$$ and stay at a vineyard or a true B&B.

I'd suggest the following to the owners:
1. Provide small bottles of shampoo/conditioner/body wash etc and a box of tissues
2. Heavier blinds/curtains to keep out light and allow a sleep in.
3. Provide an information folder in the room with a map, restaurant suggestions, wine tours etc.
4. Iron/ironing board in room (or made available to guests if required)
5. Make it clear when booking that whether or not breakfast is included in the room rate.
