The outside of the old United Service Hotel is quite unassuming, but once you enter The Inn and make your way to the first floor you soon realise the quirkyness, colour, art and handmade furniture made by us that makes us unique. We have 2 Family Rooms that can accomodate up to 5 people in each room, 2 Twin Rooms and 9 King Rooms. All of our beds can be split into single beds and our Twin Rooms made up into Kings. All Rooms have ensuites and are well apointed with flat screen TV, bar fridge, air-conditioning and tea and coffee making facilities. Our rooms are all individual. Styled and painted in refreshing colours and furnished in our unique blend of older retro and in the now specially sourced furniture. At Vine Valley Inn we also have a Dining Room and Lounge Room with TV and record player with a wide selection of albums to evoke many memories and make new ones. Our kitchen has everything our guests may need to cook for themselves or their friends and family.

We found this Inn to be quaint, eclectic and stupendous in its decor and interior offerings with generously sized rooms, for us one of the family rooms with two teenage (17 & 18 yr olds) aged boys and ourselves a couple was very comfortable.
The offer of serve yourself breakfast in the well appointed kitchen was a very welcome addition and merely added to the overall affordability of this establishment, this could also be extended to cooking your own evening meals if so desired.
Location could not be better for access to the town centre and local ammenities with local hotels and restaurants an easy stroll from the front door.
We would highly recommend this Inn to anyone visiting the region and will ourselves one day return to enjoy again the comfort offered by this establishment and its friendly staff.

What a fantastic surprise this was !
Due to the low price we didn't have high expectations and are happy at how wrong we were. The hotel is decorated in what is best described as an eclectic manner, but achieves a homely & welcoming style.
Our room was a good size and was really comfortable, again with the eclectic decorating, with a huge bathroom.
The only thing that potential visitors may need to take into account is that the hotel is up a few sets of stairs (& I didn't see an alternative method of getting into the hotel).
The hotel is also located in the middle of Cessnock & within a short walk to shops, restaurants and Clubs/Pubs.

This is a good budget option in the area. We got a last minute room for the night of 3rd January and price was quite reasonable.
We had a King Room which was quite spacious. The bed was starting to show signs of aging and was okay but not super comfortable.
Bathroom was good, great rainfall type shower.
Tea and coffee making facilities in the room.
Breakfast was good. Serve yourself with fruit, yogurt, cereal , toast etc so made the whole deal a good bargain price.
Have stayed before and will stay again.

The hotel may look a bit ordinary from the outside, but we were delighted with our stay here. The rooms are large and comfortable, quirky decor, with many exclamations of “my grandma had that!”
The fully equipped kitchen is great, with a heap of staples like oil, herbs etc. and breakfast supplies like cereal, eggs and milk are included. Having access to a dining room and lounge is great with older kids.
All-in-all, really happy with our stay.

We had a great stay of a couple of nights at this Hotel. The room was spacious, bed comfortable and bathroom quite modern. The shared longe/sitting room was a great space to sit, chat, drink wine & catch up with family via a mobile. Dinning room & kitchen are shared spaces with ample room, great decor & very comfortable. Be aware that entry & exit to the property is via a couple of flights of stairs & may be a concern for some. Great stay, excellent value for price & short walk to local pubs for a great country meal!!

This place has a wonderful vibe. Room was very nice (very comfortable bed!) and the ensuite shower/toilet looked new. Had an air conditioner but wasn't needed as we just opened up the windows and enjoyed a fresh breeze. Really good local eating options including Indian @ Hunter (yum!). The shared kitchen, dining room and lounge rooms were very much appreciated and loved the decor! Excellent customer service, I will go out of my way to come and stay here again.

Probably one of the worst hotels we have stayed in and we have stayed in many over the last 50 years . Cannot believe all the hyped reviews!! Where were they staying ?Photographs of bedrooms bear little reflection of ours. For retro read road side furniture that even your granny would refuse and grubby carpets that must be older than us and definitely not quality. Certainly nothing quaint or exceptional especially if you know anything about art or antiques.Insistence on paying cash too for 2 nights.we suspect this wad to get around Booking.com commission as we got a cancellation notice shortly after booking in Cobwebs on dirty windows and ants route marching around the room. As for the bathroom and shower curtain. If you are going to the Valley find a Valley to stay in preferably with a vine and access to the outstanding scenery? There are many other ones to choose from and wish we had.
We had booked our room through Booking.com and the "our epos had gone down" excuse to take cash was a way of avoiding commission to them as we received an email saying our booking had been cancelled, shortly after arrival. Very suspect.

From the outside this place looks very dodgy and we weren't even sure if there was a business operating however once you get up the stairs, you will find a 'comfy home' style feeling. True to most of the other reviews this place is clean and comfortable. There is a free continental breakfast included and use of a kitchen and common dining area and living room. Felt like a backpacker place but it your own room and ensuite.

I spent a couple of days there while I was visiting some wineries. By the time I had booked I was afraid of the quality of the hotel because the price was very cheap. However, once I have arrived there it was unbelievably nice. The decoration of the entire place is amazing, I was feeling in the 20’s. Very comfortable room, cozy common areas and nice kitchen. The guy in the reception was friendly and helpful.

An old hotel that is well positioned as a base to explore the Hunter Valley. The renovated bathrooms are a delight. While the beds are clean and comfy, the room furniture is old. The tv has the basics, but no Chromecast. There is a small fridge and a tea/coffee station but no microwave. A self-service breakfast is available in a small shared kitchen. Everything is provided freshly each day. One needs to compete with others for work and stove space, so choosing an off-peak time is important. Everyone is expected to clean up after their use - something not everyone did diligently.

There are several stairs to traverse for both the front entrance and car park access. Not easy if you have heavy luggage. The staff are friendly and helpful.

For us, spending another $70 a night to upgrade is probably our more likely move when we next visit the magnificent Hunter.
