Always a warm welcome here at the YHA, I've spent many weekends away in Katoomba and Leura, this gets me every time with everything I need, including clean and tidy rooms, with radiators :) on an autumn/wintery night!. You can have an en-suite if you don't want to share your bathroom. Bring a beer or a wine and sit on the back deck and read, or share your stories with other travellers! Cheap and cheerful? definitely :)
In a great location a short walking distance from town and surrounding lookouts. During my stay I was in an 8 bed dorm and 2/4 nights I had the room to myself so it was super quiet and clean. The kitchen was large and had plenty of stoves and an oven however could use another microwave. The crowd was a lot older than expected and it was difficult to meet other young people to hang out with.
Located in a beautiful old building close to train station and main street. Stayed 1 night in a twin room with bunk beds, lower bunk a double, upper bunk a single with private bathroom.Check in was simple, given linen and plates, cups, knives forks and spoons. Electric jug in room.Room was clean as was the bathroom.Heating in room and bathroom.
This is the worst hostel I have ever stayed in, and I've stayed in hostels in literal warzones. Most of the hostels guests seemed to be old homeless men who were staying there long term. While some were lovely, many of them spent the entire night drinking and talking in the outdoor courtyard, which meant it was noisy the entire night as noise outside tends to carry. At some point in the night they started arguing, swearing and shouting at each other in the hallway outside the rooms. This went on for hours, and staff did nothing to intervene. I don't even know if there were any staff or security protocols on site, as no one stopped them and there seemed to be no repercussions in the morning. This going on for so long also meant we had no sleep due to the literal screaming from the hall. We had our own room but were still scared they were going to somehow get in. They sounded angry, drunk and violent. We also needed to pee but were too afraid to go into the hallway to use the bathroom. I have never felt more unsafe in a hostel before. If you were a single woman in a shared room it would be extra scary as if you were sharing a room with one of these men and something did happen, I don't think there would be anyone there to help you. While the facilities were nice and quite clean, it's not worth it for the horrible atmosphere, risk to your safety and lack of sleep from all the fighting.…
Good points Near Yellow Deli and supermarkets Good communal areas Bad points Private room is bare with no jug, tea, coffee, sugar Reception closes at 7.30 pm Wifi not free No YHA member discount Conclusion Better options elsewhere for private room May be OK for dorm
