We were staying at the nearby Lurline hotel for 3 nights over the New Year celebrations and wanted somewhere close by and quick to eat after a day at Coogee beach. We headed to the Royal Randwick and were not disappointed. We ate in the bistro and all enjoyed our meals and drinks including cocktails. I was particularly impressed with my Sunday lamb roast. Good portion sizes and reasonably priced above average pub grub. We were so impressed we went back the next night and again all enjoyed our meals. They have a really good value special each night of the week. Friendly staff and modern, clean restaurant/bar area.
We ate with friends - Wednesday night special sirloin and fries/coleslaw. Steak was worthy of AHA award for best steak. Yeasty, well cooked, charred and good size but not stupidly large. We had some delay in service on the 2nd orders but staff were very attentive. Special mention to Marty in the bar - under pressure with limited support but remained calm and cool. Very professional. A local Coogee lad and a credit to his family.
My husband had to get bypass surgery at the Prince of Wales hospital recently. I booked a room for my son & I hoping I’d made the right decision on staying in a pub. Well we were pleasantly surprised…the room was big enough for what we needed & VERY CLEAN….it was serviced every day. The beds & pillows were very comfy & the room met our every need. We loved how central it was to everything…the hospital, food, public transport & anything else you could possibly need with a major Westfield within a 15 min bus trip. It was also great to be able to get something to eat for tea after visiting hrs at the hospital as most places finish taking Dinner orders by 8 - 8.30 but this hotel took orders until 9 - 9.30. There was no downstairs noise filtering up to the room which was great & staff were friendly & nothing was a problem. I will definitely stay here again.…
Great find. Rooms are reasonable size. Good value for money. Great location for the races. Probably could handle an upgrade but still reasonable condition. We have stayed 3 times and can’t fault the service, location or price. There is a restaurant downstairs and there is a lack of noise from the hotel.
The hotel itself is nice looking and the day staff very friendly. However my room was a bit old and tired looking which is fine, but it smelt strongly of old cigars or something. Then upon returning in the evening we were treated extremely badly by young, thuggish staff. It ruined our day which had been wonderful. When I complained by email to the hotel they dismissed it all as my fault which is strange as they weren't there, but that is what their staff had told them. Of course!! I would not recommend anyone stay there or go there for food or drinks. Its' not worth the risk. They clearly employ people who aren't up for the job.
My family (2 adults and 2 kids) and I stayed overnight at this hotel. The kids were grateful for a single bed each. It was clean and the decor had a movie-star feel so my 12 year old was excited! The noise from outside and downstairs was not a problem.
This is a very handsome looking hotel from the outside unfortunately when you enter it is just like an RSL. Big, open, canteen style tables & chairs & noisy. The barmaid I encountered twice, spilt wine over me both times. The food was very average pub fare, although my wife said her steak was very nice. I don't think I will rush back or recommend it.
Visited this hotel for lunch twice within a month, both times being greeted by the same covid marshal. Marshal is right, what an unfriendly rude individual who took great offence when we didn't have covid app on our phones & he was required to enter our names & phone no's on his Ipad. Way too much effort required on his behalf. Food was really good with a great selection, pity about our first contact with this hotel. Complained about our experience too management, that was a waste of time as they basically defended their employee. Third visit will not take place
Location: The hotel is in a central location in Randwick near to the hospital and the light-rail moreover a 15 minute downhill walk to Coogee beach but it takes longer to walk uphill. Room: The rooms are beautifully furnished and spacious except for the smaller single rooms, which are a tight fit but nonetheless, lovely. They are equipped with a safe (my safe was broken) tea and coffee facilities, iron and ironing board and thoroughly cleaned daily. The beds and pillows are most comfortable. There is no lift, but you can ask for assistance if it’s available for cases up the stairs. A bonus, is that there is an on-site car park and a lovely pub downstairs where the restaurant has a sumptuous lunch and dinner. Customer Service: Except for Pam, who was most helpful and friendly, unfortunately, there is often a business-like/frosty customer service. No smile on arrival and if you stay awhile, no enquiry about how your stay might have been. I felt like a pupil in high school being questioned by the headmistress. The owner is regularly in the building but doesn't deal with guests, only makes the odd comment and micromanages. The pub managers though, are an absolute delight and ready to assist in any way possible. They were most amiable. I have had thoroughly enjoyable stays at this hotel twice before, but it's highly unlikely I will return because there were too many hiccups this time around. My first room was a small comfortable single room, but there was a loud air-conditioning unit outside the window, so I changed to room 111. Beware, it faces the street at a noisy intersection which was unbearable (even with earplugs), so I moved again. Room 120 was much quieter has a window with no view, but the window can be opened. The hot water was off for a day and a bit after a heavy rain, but there was no electrician or plumber called out on the Sunday, which I found extraordinary. Patrons were moved next door to the Royal Lodge as per the Health Act. I had a lot of luggage but couldn't bear to move rooms yet again, so I opted to stay put and shower at the Lodge. There was no compensation offered, so I asked for a meal and was given a small voucher. Please note: the air-con system takes a while to get going for heating so use the sun symbol which says standby heat but takes a while to activate.…
Craving a good pub feed? This is the place to get it. The young barman super friendly. And accommodating. The food was tasty. Cooked to perfection. A great menu selection for allergies and dietary preferences. Some great tunes in the background. The staff looked and sounded like they enjoy coming to work.
