Nestled in a picturesque setting, Timber Cove Resort is often lauded for its stunning ocean views and an array of both indoor and outdoor activities, adding to its cozy charm. Guests have called out the hotel's nostalgic, retro ambiance, though opinions on room aesthetics vary. While the service is generally warm and professional, some inconsistencies have been noted.

Celebrated our 25th wedding with a weekend stopover before heading north on HWY1. Our room was superb with stunning views over the cove and a handy balcony to soak up the views.
The restaurant was great for breakfast/lunch/dinner and bar served a decent selection of cocktails/wines/drafts etc.
Definately will stay again when back in NorCal.

I came here with my family and discovered the ultimate luxury of the opulent room which over looked the ocean - with a balcony living room , dining room and bedroom with an attached bathroom with fire place . Old style record players with records and old style dialing phone brought back the nostalgia . The giant tv in living room and another in bed room are impressive The well equipped kitchen with fridge had the fresh mild . The complimentary tea , coffee with fresh chocolate cookies and croissant are delicious . Our rooms were on the 3 floor and exclusively at the corner. There is a lift for people with knee problem. . A welcome sight on the ground floor awaits you as soon enter the place . Right atop the cliff it offers a stunning view of the ocean . The campfire in evenings are soothing in the chilli evenings . The tariff is very high for the ‘ big room ‘ . Thoughtfully the Bathroom is equipped with hand bars and a seat for the elderly in the shower area and the bath room . Very beautiful wood work and an efficient service . Highly recommended for families .

Timber Cove is a great place in a great location that allows you to get away from everything and really just enjoy yourself. It is in a very secluded place, so you really feel like you're disconnected while you're there. The restaurant waitstaff and hotel waitstaff are all top notch, and were very helpful with all our requests. Couldn't have asked for better service!
Every room has a record player, and there's a bookshelf full of record in the main lobby to choose from and bring back to your room. There's also plenty of board games, a pool table, and other activities to do, along side of the absolutely amazing view from the back patio with a fire pit.
There's also Fort Ross which is a short drive away, highly recommend if you are staying here and looking for something to check out for a few hours.
Overall a 10/10 stay!

The hotel has a great location overlooking the Pacific, a modern woodsy aesthetic and allows dogs. We stayed in a spacious suite with a gorgeous view. Those are the positives about our stay. It's way overpriced for what you get. They really jack up the prices at holiday weekends without offering any extras. No Sonoma wine and cheese hours, as one example. The road to get there winds up the edge of high cliffs, fairly anxiety-provoking if you're not used to it. After the rainy winter, there are four areas of road repair underway so plan on hanging out at least ten minutes at each stop, both ways, at a high overlook in some cases. The biggest disappointment about being held captive at this remote location: the restaurant. As noted by other reviewers, the servings are small, the prices are high and not nearly Michelin quality. We were advised against a few dishes and as pescatarians, had few choices on our second night. I had to send one entree back. They have salmon "wings" on the menu. The server explained that fish fins have very tender meat and we fell prey. There's barely one forkful on each wing, along with fat and cartilage. Don't do it. They offer free early bird coffee in the lobby but it gets taken away when breakfast is served so they can charge you for it. Breakfast is when the lobby gets cleaned so be prepared to listen to vacuuming while sipping a not so great latte. The breakfast pastry offering isn't fresh. I wanted to listen to the Pearl Jam album in our room but the phonograph didn't play at the right speed. We loved staying on the Sonoma Coast but the hotel just didn't deliver the kind of experience for which we paid.

Overall, my experience at Timber Cove was disappointing and fell short of expectations, especially given the high price tag. While the location boasted beautiful views and the staff were friendly, several aspects of the stay left much to be desired.
Upon arrival, despite the listing as one of the "best hotels," the room we were assigned did not offer the promised ocean view. When we inquired about an upgrade, we were quoted an exorbitant additional fee of $400, which seemed excessive given the hotel's apparent emptiness. The room itself was disappointingly small, and the bed posed a safety hazard with uncovered, pointy corners that resulted in banging my knee against it several times, thank God I’m not diabetic or an older person, I was left with a huge bruise.
The dining experience was lackluster, with mediocre food lacking flavor and priced unreasonably high. While the wait staff were pleasant, this did little to offset the disappointment of the dining experience. Additionally, the resort fee charged upon checkout felt unjustified, especially considering the lack of substantial resort facilities beyond a small gym. A resort fee and occupancy tax per night ended costing us 464.18 per night and that doesn’t even include the regular tax.
Ultimately, the combination of the underwhelming accommodations, subpar dining, and unexpected additional fees left a sour taste, making the overall stay feel vastly overpriced for the value received. Despite the beautiful location and friendly staff, I cannot recommend Timber Cove to others seeking a high-quality hotel experience.

I was looking forward to my writing retreat here. I was hoping to recommend it for a larger writing UC retreat to some faculty. However I will not be returning. The only person who made our trip worth while was Desiree. Desiree was an amazing server and staff. I cannot believe she is not in the position of a manager. However the actual managers are rude, unhelpful, and condescending. This place has charm and potential. Just checking in was a hassle. The front desk person checked us into a room underneath all the noise of the deck. We had the ocean cove view but realized only two of those rooms are worth it. The rest are far away from any real view. The location is beautiful but you are far away from any restaurants. The manager at Kicthen coast was rude and annoying. She was bothered by us not having reservations and refused to seat us on Thursday even though half the restaurant was empty and stayed empty for the next two hours. The food is alright but an entree costs 50 bucks and have no other choice. We had a baby. It seemed to bother her. We ended up eating in the lobby because we had no other choice. It’s ridiculous because this place is a destination for baby moons. I mean if you want this hotel to fail continue employing managers who yell at their Black employees in front of us in the lobby. I mean this manager was talking down to the staff member who apparently accommodated someone. I heard the entire conversation. That’s so unprofessional and unkind. If your staff are accommodating people that should be rewarded not chastised. Also we had an advanced purchase. And we were thinking of upgrading and staying an extra day but there was no attempt to try and help us make that happen because we were told advanced purchases are a done deal. I mean this is too funny. I have never had such a hard time checking in. All in all we came here because our friends recommended it. This place is in need of change of management and maybe rewarding the actual staff that give it charm instead of those trying to play gatekeepers to the elite.

My husband and I (along with our baby) braved the "atmospheric river" storm for a quick birthday getaway to the Timber Cove Resort. Our room was non-refundable, so we pushed through and made our way out to the beautiful Sonoma Coast. Upon checking in, the front desk staff was warm, inviting and friendly. They informed me that our room was down a few flights of outdoor stairs (no elevator), so I asked if it was possible to be moved to a ground floor room since we were traveling with a baby. I was informed I'd be charged an upgrade fee. I found this to be disappointing, as it didn't appear as if the resort was anywhere near fully booked, considering the weather. It was pouring rain with heavy gusts of wind, and we had to carry our baby down the stairs in her stroller, so this wasn't ideal for us.
We booked the cove view room, and sadly we didn't get to enjoy the view much during our stay, but our room was cozy, comfortable and mostly clean (the shower floor had a shoe print and rust stains; the kettle also had dirt inside it). A couple of other things to note during our stay - they provide complimentary pastries each morning but only until 8am, which seems a bit early. When my husband attempted to grab some one morning (before knowing about the 8am cutoff), the staff member let him know he was too late but offered to grab some for him. She then proceeded to charge him for it. We found this to be odd, as the pastries are complimentary, and wish she would have let him know upfront that he would be charged for it. Lastly, we ordered room service one afternoon, and I noticed that I was automatically charged a 20% "large group" gratuity. I'm not sure why as it wasn't a large order, and when I had asked about it, I don't think the manager understood my question. Again, I think it would have been helpful for the staff to inform us of any automatic charges upfront.
Unfortunately, we didn't get to enjoy the grounds much because it literally didn't stop raining during our stay, but we did get some much needed R&R (even with a baby!). Also the daily cookies in the lobby at 4pm are a must!

I booked this resort pretty last minute after our original mini-moon stay was affected by the Big Sur Road closures. I was excited, after looking at all the photos on the website, to stay in the resort and enjoy a “cozy” stay. Immediately upon entering the lobby, we were greeted with the loud noise from some construction that was going on in the main dining room or as they call it, the “great” room. The check-in staff was very friendly, however we were disappointed when we realized the forest view room was actually steps away from this restaurant construction, in what seemed to me more like a motel set up than anything else. For $350+ a night, this felt a little unacceptable, as we could hear the construction from our tiny room. We ended up paying to upgrade to a room that was outside the “great” room, so we didn’t have to deal with the noise. They very obviously try to upsell you on this, and under another circumstance (not “just married”) I would’ve totally argued about the construction, asked for a refund and gone somewhere else. There’s amazing small properties up and down the coast for a fraction of Tinber Cove’a rates.
This upgrade made our stay totally over expensive and not worth it. To top it off (and this is obviously not the resorts fault but) May gray is in full swing in this region of California, so the views were non-existent and the weather was cold and foggy. The restaurants on site were incredibly overpriced, my husband and I ended up not finishing our $130+ dinner because the dishes were just not good or fresh. We ended up spending the second day at Sea Ranch up the coast, which had much better food for a similar cost.
Overall, I would not recommend this hotel. It feels very outdated, there is not much to do during the day when the weather is bad, and it is incredibly overpriced for what you get. The only thing that was good was the staff.

We booked our room at Timber Cove with high hopes for a good experience as we had been here years ago before it was refurbished. At nearly $400 per night, while the dining service was very good, the room was more like a Motel 6. The room is very small. So small that to get to the coffee service/cabinet, you cannot open the bathroom door fully. One or the other door has to be closed. There is no way to go in and out of the bathroom without opening and closing the door fully each and every time (we propped it open with the ironing board that was shoved in the corner of the room.) There was a single towel per person and no additional blankets available. The bottled water provided was so horrible tasting that it was undrinkable (maybe very, very stale?). The outlet for the coffee maker was broken and when we called for assistance were told to plug it in somewhere else (it is now sitting on the floor) and no coffee would be provided if it didn't work. During the day, no maintenance person arrived as promised to fix the outlet. Also, no water was provided to replace the empty bottles (had to call down for more), dirty glasses remained, the creamer wasn't restocked (nothing was) and the room is showing extensive signs of wear. All in all, this is not a 5-star or 4-star experience and very overpriced for the quality of the room. The only good thing is the view and location. If you have the cash and don't care, then definitely stay here.

I agree with a review posted earlier. Set your expectations. If you are looking for luxurious resort then this is not it. This is not Manhanthan or Paris. This is Jenner CA, Sonoma isolated coast, which population is 100 folks, the next Michelin restaurant is 3 hours driving away, etc... A Luxurious resort in the middle of far away would cost you at least 5K a day.
This resort is a Jewel in the Sonoma coast where you can have a great clean comfortable room to relax with everything you need and with incredible views.
For us the resort was great. Not luxurious pretentious, simple great taste decor, all you need is there, incredible views, great friendly staff, and great food at the restaurant. It tasted like gourmet farmers market food. The steak was great, fun presentation, the roasted carrots and mash potatoes were out of this world fresh, and oh..., the mango sorbet was fantastic.
Angel is doing a great job running the operations with limited staff numbers. He accommodated all of our requests and was always attentive offering help. Bar tender went out of his way to prepare any drinks. Staff gave great suggestions for incredible hikes. Rooms were clean, nice simple modern decoration, everything worked and has everything one need. Congratulations to the Hotel staff.
We had a great time. We will definitely come back.

Yes you can! Ask for the room with bed facing the ocean as not all the rooms have this.
I'm sure the resort would be happy to give you this information. Call or e-mail.
Hi Julia A.,
We do not have a hot tub. But many of our rooms have deep soaking tubs. Give us a call to book and we can let you know if the tubs are available. Hope to welcome you soon.

Monterey County, California42 contributions43 helpful votesHi ! I read a TA review dated July 27, 2017 which included a picture of Room 47 inclusive of a corner window view. This room very much appeals to me as it is a corner room thus more private plus it has a deck. Question please: is Room 47 on the top floor ? If it is not, what is the room # above it and what type of room category are they ? My husband and I stayed at Timber Cove back in the early 80's and cannot wait to reunite with its magic !!! Cheers ! m.
I think you should ask the resort this type of question. We had a room on the lower level of the long low wing (ocean view) and it was great. Our daughter and her husband had a less expensive room on the lower level of the other wing and I would not recommend that room (cove view).
Remember if it’s foggy there’s no view!
