We are used to outstanding levels of service in hotels in Asia and did not have high hopes from hotels in Italy but we were blown away by the warmth and personalised service we got in Villa Lario. We were traveling with our kids and our room was just perfect. Comfortable and spacious. Our flight from Singapore landed at 6 am and we were in the hotel at 8.30 am much before the check in time but we were looked after and treated to a fabulous breakfast by Alexandra at reception and Daria in the restaurant. We stayed 6 nights and we had absolutely no complaints at all. Nothing was too much for the wonderful staff. The decor of the hotel is understated and elegant and classy. Views are gorgeous. Christian was ever so helpful at dinner and Julia offered me the most delicious cocktail I have had in years. Our stay was so comfortable and wonderful that we didn’t want to leave. The only disadvantage is that the location of the hotel is slightly away from the most happening spots in Lake Como and the public transport was infrequent but it was a small price to pay for the warmth and comfort we got during our stay. Without doubt one of the best places we have stayed in ever.

We stayed at this resort for 3 nights at the Pavilion suite. Rooms were clean and we received a cleaning service twice a day with a maid always bringing fresh water for us. Location of this property is amazing. Very peaceful. The restaurant with an excellent food is overlooking the lake. Every dinner was an experience.
But I would like to give 5 stars to the customer service. We were supposed to be picked up for our drive to the airport by Blacklane company. They cancelled our booking at 11pm, just about 9 hours before our trip to the airport. This was obviously extremely stressful for us. We called the reception desk in the middle of the night to see if they can arrange any transportation. They assured us not to worry. When we came to the reception desk at 8 am the next day our new ride was already booked. So Thank you again to the young blond receptionist who did an excellent job.

I think it’s easy to say villa lario is one of the best places I have ever stayed. From the lift (you’ll see) to reception and onward everything is thought out and perfect. We stayed in a corner suite which is so beautiful. The villa even smells amazing. The food is delicious and the cocktails from the wonderful raphaele (spelling?) are perfect. Service in general is great even though like hospitality globally they are short staffed. Julia was brilliant at making sure we were always looked after. The villa is gorgeous, the service is great and food fresh and delicious. The rooms are expensive but the quality of the venue as well as everything else make it worth it. The restaurant is good value I think. I hate when you feel you’re getting hammered on the cost at every turn and that’s certainly not the case.

My only suggestion would be they offered a shuttle to como or bellagio maybe once a day as taxis are impossible to get or really expensive and it would be a nice touch but really, I didn’t even want to leave.

Thank you to the team at Villa Lario

In early May I visited Villa Lario with my daughter. We stayed in a Pavilion suite of two double bedrooms with bathrooms (there was no bath only showers) living room and kitchen for €1275 a night. The rooms are cheaply and basically decorated without any decorative interest. The kitchen is built complete with oven, cooker, large fridge and even a dishwasher. There is a coffee machine, kettle and 4 cups and saucers. That is all. The complete lack of equipment renders the kitchen a waste of space as it is unusable without crockery, cutlery, the basic cooking ingredients such as salt and pepper and cleaning equipment. Why the kitchen is there is a mystery.
I requested before arriving that the beds be made with sheets and blankets not duvets. I was assured that it would be done. On arrival it was not done. I again requested this. Again I was reassured. The chamber maid then managed to add a flat sheet and a small piece of cloth masquerading as a blanket. At this point I gave up
On one of our 3 days our suite was not cleaned. The manager was not there when I called the desk and she failed to call me the next morning as I requested. There was no deputy. The next day on checkout she did not mention the incident. Instead she asked if we had a good time. I said no. She knew why and gave me a lot of excuses such as pressure on room cleaners to turn over rooms. She does not understand the concept of customer service let alone the value of an apology.
As the weather was poor we had no experience of the pool or outdoor service. We found the restaurant service good and the food very good. The position is spectacular but that is geographic not thanks to the hotel

This is a beautiful property. Scenery is spectacular but customer service is lacking.
2 employees I would give 5 star review to are Gulia in the restaurant and Paula, the cleaning lady. Other employees lack attention to client needs.
We had a problem with lady bugs , ants, cockroach and centipedes in our 2 bedroom villa. We asked to speak to someone in charge but after several calls when each time the manager was supposed to arrive we never received a return phone call. Finally the last day she popped her head around to say she heard about the problem with insects.
We were 4 couples total, we had 2 of the 2 bedroom villas with 2 couples in each villa. We were given one key per villa. When we asked for a second key so each couple could enter, we were told they couldn’t provide a second key.
Safe was broken. light in bathroom falling out of the ceiling.
Lunch and breakfast was very good but we were very disappointed with our dinner and decided to go out for our second night. As spectacular as this resort is I couldn’t recommend it or would I ever think of returning.
They compensated us by taking a bottle of wine off the bill. This is a very, very expensive resort and not worth the money. A staff at the front desk even admitted they are in trouble and are very short of staff. They don’t seem to have any maintenance staff. Our friends stayed in the pavilion and the 2 couples payed over 2500 euros for 2 nights. They only got one key and the handle on the entrance door was broken when they arrived and never fixed. They also experienced the same problem with bugs. They sprayed the unit twice but never seemed to help.
The grounds are beautiful but very limited ferry service to other areas on the lake so be prepared to spend your time their unless you want to rent a private boat
Martina works the front desk and place is apparently owned by Mr. Richard who lives in France

I really wanted to love this place as I spent ages researching where to stay and comparing different hotels. However , while some things were wonderful , others did not quite give off the impression of a 5 star hotel.
The good : the view is spectacular and I loved the viewing platform at the hotel entrance, the food at dinner was excellent and the waiters were polite and attentive. The bed was very comfy and the windows of the suite gave right out onto the lake - a view I will never forget. The swimming pool and grounds of the hotel are very well kept , well designed and in general gorgeous. I loved the incorporation of modern sculptures around the property.

The bad: when we arrived there was an event going on and the staff seemed completely thrown off that there was a hotel guest arriving and not a guest of the event. They couldn’t tell us where we could park our car, if there was a valet who could do it for us, how long we had to wait before we could be admitted to reception etc. It was all a bit of a mess until we actually got to reception and were told that of course there’s a valet who can find a space for our car. They took our passports for photocopies and never gave them back to us… I had to go to the reception next day and ask for them myself. The reception is often closed with no one around and you have to call an Italian number to say that you’re at the desk … this is not only expensive for foreign guests but also quite unprofessional for a 5 star hotel. The event that was there when we arrived lasted the entire weekend so the entire bottom part of the hotel including bar , pontoon and grounds was closed off for the entire 3 days we were there … it’s a shame to pay so much to stay in a hotel, only to get there and find you can’t even see/ use half of it ! If I were the hotel manager, I would post something about this event on the hotels homepage or contact hotel guests beforehand so that they are aware, perhaps even with a small discount or voucher as an apology. In general the whole weekend we felt secondhand to the event guests , which is crazy given the fact that we booked one of the more expensive suites at the hotel. The lift going from reception to the car park area did not work well, one time it failed to open when we got to the top floor so we had to go back down and take the stairs and another time the sensor didn’t work so the doors almost closed on my dog’s head!!! Thankfully I pulled him back just in time but this is very dangerous. Smaller things that didn’t take away from our stay but should be considered include putting body lotion in the suite bathrooms along with the shampoo/ shower gel bottles and putting knobs or handles on the cupboard/ wardrobe doors … I broke a few fingernails trying to open them each time. And lastly, a full length mirror would be a nice touch in the rooms :)

If these things can be fixed, I would definitely return as the place has a lovely energy , good food and fantastic views.

The location is amazing. Absolutely gorgeous views of the lake and the surrounding mountains. The grounds of the hotel are beautifully kept, the garden is perfectly maintained, the pool area is big enough and the sunbeds are comfortable. The rooms are clean, we rented a double suite which came with a living room and a terrace with great views of the lake.

There are big problems with the service. You have a choice between kind but incompetent or experienced but rude waiters. The older, experienced waiters refused to serve us bread at some point saying they ran out (???) but two minutes later they brought some to another table. When we complained they said we did not identify specifically what type of bread we wanted. No apologies, nothing. The guy just shrugged his shoulders and walked away. Another night we went down at 10 pm for some drinks and the waiter says they are closed, even though a table of guests were still there. When we noted that the night before their colleague said they are open as long as guests are in the restaurant, they claim they closed down the bar. We cant drink anything. Luckily the table of other guests made a fuss and after a ten minute argument (!) had the waiters open us a bottle of wine. This is what you get for 900 euros a night. An absolute disgrace! You have to fight to be able to have a glass of wine (other bars in the area close at 10, the only open bar is 10kms away and taxis are hard to find). Clearly the waiters couldn't wait to get rid of all the guests so that they can go home. As I understand the waiters work daily shifts meaning they are there from breakfast to dinner - while this must be exhausting they should not take it out on the customer. The younger waiters stumble around but get the job done.
Additionally, while breakfast is fresh, the food selection is limited. The pool water is not heated and the rooms could benefit from painting as you can clearly see dirt. The hotel is built into a steep mountainous area and you will have to use elevators between different levels. A steep walkway leads from the garage to the main elevator. Keep this in mind if you have physical limitations. Car or taxi is necessary for getting around the area. Bus stop is within 50 meters but only one bus per hour so you need to plan ahead.

Villa Lario on Lake Como might be just paradise. Tucked into the mountain between Como and Bellagio it’s a narrow road to get to the hotel. Have the location loaded in your navigation system or our phone’s map as you might easily pass right by the entrance. We were met by the hotel staff and quickly shown our room.

This was our 2nd stay here so didn’t need the tour, but during the pandemic they did a number of renovations to the property including opening the villa by the lake side with additional rooms.

The best part of the hotel is dinner on the terrace overlooking the lake. With he sun going behind the mountain you enjoy a glass of wine and let all the stress of life disappears. I’m always amazed how peaceful Lake Como is.

The one thing to keep in mind is that the hotel is somewhat isolated. It’s much easier to take day trips via the ferry that docks nearby. With the ferry you can go to Como, Bellagio, Verenna or Menaggio. However, take the opportunity to just sit in a chair in the private garden by the lake or take a swim in the lake.

Special thanks to the hotel staff for making our stay so memorable and already looking forward to our next visit

Wow! It doesn't get much better than Villa Lario. The incredible views, the delicious food, the wonderful staff - it really is one of a kind and the best place to stay in Lake Como.

We stayed in the new Palazzo suites which are right down on the lakefront in beautifully modern rooms. The shower was particularly excellent.

As it is a boutique property, you get to know the staff and we loved being greeted by the same faces every morning for breakfast. The complimentary morning yoga is also a really lovely touch

If I could spend the rest of my life waking up to the sound of the lapping of the lake coming through the windows of Villa Lario, I would!

We stayed here for 3 days. Amazing room, perfect view of the lake. We had failed to make plans for dinner and activities during the day, so we went to the front desk and they found us a boat to rent and dinner at a restaurant that was 15 minutes away by taxi. Nest time, we will plan better, but with the help of the staff our visit was super!

Can you hire out the entire premises ?
Lake Como, Italy
Dear 939jilla, Thank you for your question. We permise to our guest to sunbathing in topless preferibly at the lake level, which is not attended by many people. At the pool area, we kindly suggest to avoid it in order to not trouble any guest who not like. Hoping to be helpfull, I wish all the best from lake Como, Marta Guest Reletions

I never noticed whether there were TV’s or not. We were so mesmerized by the truly panaramic view there was nothing else worth watching😃. We were trying to unplug but noticed it was easy enough to stay connected enough. If you the need to be highly connected every where on property I wouldn’t say that’s the strong point of the property. Enjoy your trip.

Dear Kirsty, We are delighted you selected Villa Lario for your well deserved rest. Apart from the obvious water games in the pool or from our pier (swimming, water ski which we can organize for you, boating etc...) you could really do very nice walks from Villa Lario, or going to Bellagio/Varenna for a day visit in traghetto, or shopping in the cute little city of Como (once upon a time the capital of silk and fashion and design), or going for a golf day in one of the three international courses around.... Please contact me direct at the hotel (contact details on our site) so we can exchange and organize at best your stay. Kind regards
