Detailed Reviews

They allow travelers to use their amenities if you checked out already. Which is a big plus if you have a later flight.
Their front desk staffs are extremely friendly but don’t be deceived. That doesn’t mean they understand how to accommodate one’s needs unless you have to keep reminding them, which makes it stressful for having a more pleasant stay. It took days to rectify. Had it not been addressed this would be a three star review. But it kinda ruined the otherwise would have been more enjoyable stay. That’s probably their biggest flaw. Plus they will add extra fees so be aware of your bills. They overcharge!
Otherwise, very clean well maintained exterior facility and some very hard working cleaning staff. That includes beach and recreation staffs like Felix the engineer, Steven the recreation center etc.
Other indoor cleaning crews were hiding in cleaning supply room busy browsing the internet during busy check out time, so don’t be surprised if your room is not ready sooner with dusty furniture areas left untouched and carpet not vacuumed, plus not changing out the moldy shower curtains. Hopefully this improves. There are some exceptional cleaning staff that left rooms spic and span exceptionally cleaned.
Really enjoyed their lovely food offerings at the Mahi Mahi Bar & Grill where evening shift employee, named Christian, was above and beyond, offering mosquito sprays and kept checking on us after good recommendations.
There are two jacuzzi areas to enjoy. Overall, will return in hopes things improve to actually fully enjoy their entire offerings for a pleasant stay.

All rooms / condos look out over the ocean and pool. We were on the 6th and 7th floors, so we had lovely views. The staff is very polite and accommodating. The rooms are stylishly decorated and clean. The beds and pillows are top quality and very comfortable, clearly changed out on the regular. The one restaurant on the property, Mahi Mahi, is a third party vendor, seemingly owned and operated by a local chef. The food is amazing and fresh and ranges from American style comfort food like hamburgers and fries (which you can get with truffle oil and shaved parmesan if you want to elevate it!) to locally caught seafood and Puerto Rican style food like empanadas and mofongo. The cocktails were great, too, and very generous on the pours! While the property was full, you could not tell that from the pool and beach areas. It's so nice to always have a chair to sit in, which reminds me - beach chairs and umbrellas are included. When we tipped for the set up, we could tell it was not expected and was much appreciated. The other guests here were couples and families interested in a relaxing vacation together; this is not a party spot. There are daily activities, but they are not loud and do not interfere with guests not participating. We enjoyed the small gym and the cornhole and ping pong that's set up in the pool area. Others enjoyed the barbecue on the lawn, as we smelled some delicious food being grilled one night. This is a vacation club property that we booked through expedia, but there was zero attempt to have us sit in on a presentation. It may be that they are not in this phase of selling anymore. Thank goodness. The rooms are serviced every other day, but you can get fresh towels, coffee, and household supplies anytime you want. We would and probably will return here. It's such a refreshing change from other caribbean resorts we've visited recently. The Dorado region of Puerto Rico is a very special place!

October 2024
My husband and I spent a week in Puerto Rico at the Hyatt Vacation Club in early Oct. We were so pleased with all aspects of this hotel/resort that I decided to write a review. This place has a real charm. We had a two bedroom on the fifth floor with a fully equipped kitchenette and a balcony with a most spectacular view of the ocean and the picturesque pool area. The room was spacious, super clean, the bed and pillows very comfortable. The suite was well fitted out with everything to make our stay perfect. Large kitchen, separate dining table, large bathroom with walk in shower. Two large flat screen TVs. I loved the lighting in the rooms and bathroom. Bright enough to apply my makeup and a long wall mirror for getting dressed. We were provided with lots of towels, beach towels, coffee, tea, laundry soap, etc. Yes, there is laundry facilities. It felt very homey and comfortable. The housekeeping staff should be acknowledged for keeping the different areas and rooms in top shape. The grounds and pool were well maintained from early morning to late night. As a guest you have access to abundant lounge chairs around the pool and beach areas and the friendly groundskeepers will provide and setup an umbrella for you on the beach. We were very comfortable approaching the friendly and helpful front desk staff. I regret not remembering the names of the front desk young ladies and the gentlemen. They were so helpful in answering my husband’s unending questions, to making suggestions on parking, to providing extra room keys. At other resorts we avoid the front desk because they are not as responsive to our needs. At the Hyatt Vacation Club, they could not do enough for you. Trust us, they will try their very best to make your visit a happy, positive one. When my husband told them it was our 40th anniversary, they provided us with chilled wine and treats in our room. A special thank you to the customer relations manager and staff. We also enjoyed the happy hour drinks and food at the beach bar/restaurant. We loved experiencing the culture and foods of the island since we had a rental car so we did not frequent the restaurant often to eat but we had great mojitos nightly and I know they offer local dining in a lovely restaurant overlooking the ocean and pool area. We will have fond memories of our stay at the Hyatt Vacation Club for years to come and cannot say enough about our stay. In fact we have booked once again to stay at this resort/hotel this March. Thank you to all, and especially to whoever assigned our room for us.

This place was just what we were looking for-- a family oriented resort with comfortable rooms, all the amenities, but not over the top. There's a pool, a hot tub and a beach. There's a cute restaurant that has what you need. The one bedroom spaces have a door that closes so my kids could sleep on the pull out couch and my husband and I didn't need to go to sleep at 8pm. If you're looking for a fancy place this is not for you, however if you want everything you need, coupled with a good price point and the ability to cook meals in your room so you don't have to eat out all the time, you will be very happy here. We will definitely be back!

This is our third time and the place continues to offer the beautiful waves of the ocean. All rooms are oceanfront and ocean views, but choose the higher floors to avoid obstructions of views. WiFi is very strong so one can work remotely . It is not a party place and there are no offered activities except Bingo and short nature walks. This means total relaxation. The Mahi Mahi restaurant on the premises offers fried or grilled seafood, meat, veggies, salad, empanadas, Ceviche, desserts. Menu changes daily. This time we didn’t rent a car which for the week costs $500 and instead asked the resort to arrange for a taxi pick up from the airport (u can also do Uber on your own). The cost is $85 including a stop at the Supermarket. I also packed food supplies and fruits in our checked luggage which are allowed (fruits not allowed going back to mainland). All in all our 9-night stay would be lovely. Staff are very friendly and courteous, the rooms are nicely redone from the hurricane renovations.

The location is on a nice stretch of beach just west of Dorado. The beach is somewhat private as there are rocky outcrops on either side of the roughly 400 yard beach. The beach had golden sand and was mostly clean. The ocean water temperature was comfortable when I was there the week of new years.
Lots of parking is available but few spots have shade.
You will need a car as nothing is walkable.
The staff are friendly but I didn’t interact with them too much.
All the rooms face the ocean. I could see the ocean and the beach through the palm trees from my 4th floor balcony.
The room was spotlessly clean. No mold at all. My sinus allergies didn’t bother me while staying there. The staff cleaned the room every other day. The grounds were well maintained also.
The pool area was nice, the pool is long enough to swim laps and it’s wide enough for several simultaneous swimmers plus a side area for others. I think the depth ranged from 4ft to 6ft.
There were plenty of lounge chairs as they didn’t feel in short supply. There was some “reserving” chairs by putting towels and stuff on them but not as intense as other resorts.
There was a fresh water shower rinse after coming out of the ocean for body and feet.
There is a basketball court and two tennis/ pickleball courts. I heard that the front desk has pickleball racquets and balls for use but I didn’t use them.
The kitchen was fully stocked for normal light vacation cooking. All the kitchen appliances worked well.
The bed was comfortable, the living room couch was not.
We liked the soap, shampoo, conditioner they provided.
There is an onsite restaurant called Mahi Mahi. The food was just ok, I wouldn’t want to eat there every meal or more than once per day.
Management sent out a text to the number on the reservation almost daily with information for the day.
The room was quiet, the main noise was the sound of the waves. The bar was far enough away that you don’t really hear any noise in the room. The walls are somewhat thin so loud noise could be heard between rooms but I wouldn’t call it a problem as it generally a quiet place.
No bugs in the room at all.
I heard that the whole property is non-smoking which is nice.
Overall would stay again.

My wife and I stayed here 7 years ago and twice this December.
We had a top floor studio with King-size bed and large covered balcony, overlooking the pool and beach. The hotel staff had warned us about construction noise from a hotel next door being demolished. We never heard any noise during our 6 day stay. We could sleep with the balcony door open and the sound of the crashing waves.
The large pool and 2 whirlpools are kept spotless and we saw pool attendants and gardeners at work every day.
The service was great and requested items were delivered to our room promptly.
The onsite Mahi Mahi restaurant serves tasty dishes at normal prices. There is not much protection from the frequent tropical brief showers at the outdoor restaurant, but we enjoyed our meals on our covered balcony.
All staff members were super friendly and very helpful. The resort is beautiful and was pretty empty in early December. We had pool and whirlpool pretty much to ourselves. We stayed one night at another resort in Dorado, checked out the next morning and went back to the Hyatt Residence Club for another 3 nights.

I was pleasantly surprised by the Hyatt Hacienda del Mar in Dorado, Puerto Rico.
My husband and I booked our trip through Expedia and I was reluctant to go to Puerto Rico. I had been to Puerto Rico twice before and the last time, we also stayed in the Dorado area.
I checked the Hyatt website after we booked our trip and the website said there may be noise at the hotel due to construction. I called the hotel and the representative was honest and said that on one side of the hotel, there is demolition occurring and there may be noise during day hours but it is not every day and not so bad. At this point, it did not matter because our stay was already booked.
The size of the hotel is perfect. It is not huge so that one has to walk a lot and yet it is spacious. The property has beautiful grounds which include a tennis court and basketball court (by the parking lot, across the road from the main entrance). Parking is spacious and FREE which was a big plus for us since we rented a car this trip. The pool at the hotel has 8 laps (a must for my husband who loves to swim) and extends to an additional swimming area and another smaller pool (for babies and kids). There are two hot tubs (one on each side of the pool area).
There are plenty pool chairs and seating areas. The landscaping is magnificent with palm trees surrounding the pool area. As far as hotel activities, there is bingo and meditation and other activities varying by day. The hotel grounds have a small soccer area and volleyball area and two bbq grills. The clubhouse has a game room for kids with air hockey, a pool table and other games. The gym is well stocked with lots of equipment and is open 24 hours a day (just use your room card).
The pool hours are until 10 pm and the pool is well lit at night.
The beach is private and magnificent. The hotel room we were given was a corner unit with a full kitchen, huge balcony and had views of both the pool and ocean.
The staff was amazing and super helpful and friendly. There is a small bar/restaurant (not formal) that is privately owned - just right for cocktails and drinks and light meals.
I highly recommend the Hyatt Hacienda del Mar. I hope to return soon. The hotel completely changed my views regarding Puerto Rico. It is definitely worth a visit!

We recently came back from a 4 night stay at this property. Our requirements were for a full kitchen, and we booked a 1 bedroom suite on friend's recommendations who were at the HRCHDM several weeks before. The experience exceeded our expectations!
The property is located around 45 minutes from SJU, and check in was quick and easy. As other reviews have mentioned, this is a time share property, not a full service hotel, hence you have to grab a cart yourself (carts were plentiful) and bring your luggage to your room yourself. Also, there is no housekeeping, but fresh towels and linens are always available upon request. The suite was modern and up to date, with a fully equipped kitchen and modern stainless appliances. The bed was comfortable and storage was plentiful. The bathroom was huge, with 2 sinks and a large shower. Closet was a bit small. There is a full dining room table with room for 4-6 people, a cough and 2 chairs. There was a large screen TV in both the bedroom and living room. The balcony had a table and 4 chairs, and we enjoyed our morning coffee and evening wine sitting and admiring the beautiful view.
The beach is beautiful with plenty of chairs available. One day attendants came around with ice pops for all. Surf is a bit rough at times. Pool area is also beautiful, surrounded by palm trees, with 2 hot tubs and a kiddy pool.
A car is mandatory if you plan on grocery shopping, or venturing off the property. Nearby (5 minute drive) is Cerro Gordo, which had a beautiful trail along the water. We drove to San Juan one afternoon for a tour of Old San Juan, and one night we drove 30 minutes to the casino in Bayamon.
We found the staff friendly and responsive to our needs. A special shout out to Marilu, the front desk manager who accommodated our need to stay a bit later the day of check out because of a late flight back. Also thank you to Natalie (from Jerome Avenue in the Bronx!) who also helped us out.
Overall, a great place to stay for a short getaway. We hope to be back!
P.S.: The old Cerromar hotel next door is being demolished. We heard some noise from the demolition, but that did not diminish our enjoyment of our stay

This establishment exceeded our expectations. If you are looking for a party this is the wrong place, but lots of people were having fun and relaxing. Every single staff member from the front desk to housekeeping and the staff at the beach pool was friendly, helpful. We had a studio unit which was perfect- has a small washer and dryer, kitchennette with a few dishes, microwave, freezer/fridge combo. Every room here faces the pool area with the ocean just past. Its definitely a hidden gem. Bonus- no need to pay extra to rend chairs/ cabanas are they are plentiful here

I was there in February and there was zero noise. Not sure if construction has started since.
