The Europe Hotel & Resort is frequently lauded for its luxurious amenities, including a spa and diverse dining options, all complemented by stunning views. While service is generally acclaimed for being attentive and professional, some guests have noted occasional inconsistencies. The rooms offer breathtaking lake views and are celebrated for their cleanliness but are sometimes considered basic. Cleanliness throughout the hotel is a strong point, though there has been a singular mention of dirty spa windows.
Value perceptions vary, with some guests feeling the experience does not justify the cost. The atmosphere is tranquil, yet some feel it lacks character and find the music selection odd. Nevertheless, the hotel's location is consistently praised as beautiful and perfect for a serene retreat.

Detailed Reviews
This was a COVID-19 inspired 3 day break for myself, my wife, and our 18 year old daughter. The hotel was well prepared for the COVID situation, with clear directions everywhere, all staff wearing visors, recording of names and contact details whenever appropriate, and suitable spacing of tables, etc. As usual, Kerry and The Europe did themselves proud. The Europe is quite possibly the best 5* hotel we have ever stayed in, either in Ireland or abroad. Staff are so friendly, nothing is too much trouble. Standards of rooms (Lakeview Superior) are outstanding, particularly in the attention paid to tiny details, such as the quality of tiling. A small welcome pack of face masks and sanitiser was left in the room, and the cleaners must be telepathic, because it seemed that if we left the room for more than a few minutes, someone came in to tidy, leave some more water, or rearrange the towels.
There are three dining options, apart from room service. The Brasserie is a casual dining option, with both indoor and outdoor seating. No reservations are taken, and it can fill up quickly. It offers great food, and a meal for 3 came in around €120 which is hardly cheap, but the food is really good. Slightly cheaper, but very impressive, is the Spa Cafe, an Italian themed restaurant, big on pizzas, but strangely lacking much in the way of pasta, such as lasagne, carbonara, or canneloni. Less than €100 for 3, which is more than your local trattoria, but the standard, once again, is way above most local trattorias.
Panorama is the formal dining experience, and it is outstanding. It is not ultra formal or stuffy, and several mums and dads had toddlers in high chairs. Our server, Evalina (hope I spelt that correctly), was knowledgeable, fast, and friendly. She recommended the fois gras starter, and boy she was right. This was fois gras like you have never seen it before, and it was stunning - probably one of the top starters I have ever had. Mains were really good, and their pastry chef is an artist, because his desserts were out of this world.
Three days in the Europe does not come cheap, but as far as we could see from driving around, it was the only hotel that looked like it was doing serious business, so we're not the only ones who were willing to spend a little more for a truly top notch experience. If you've missed out on your BIG holiday this year, this is highly recommended, as offering the very best of what Ireland has to offer.

It's difficult to write this review without seeming to be going "over the top". But the fact is that this hotel was simply amazing from start to finish. Staff were so helpful, friendly, and with that fantastic mix of informality and dedication to service. When I heard my waiter pointing out to the restaurant manager that he thought my dinner (fantastic confit duck), would have benefitted from an addition of vegetables on the plate, I knew I was in a place where everyone cared passionately.
The attention to detail is everywhere, from the way the tiles in the en-suite always lined up to frame the fittings, to the spotless balcony, and lots of tiny design details that would be easily missed, but which are there nonetheless.
Views are spectacular, and our Superior Lakeview Room has a lovely large balcony from which to enjoy them. The lounge is a comfortable place to hang out, and the spa is wonderful, with an inside and outside pool. Breakfast in bed (wife), was exactly as ordered, piping hot, served from a mobile warmer. Staff seemed to anticipate our every need, and service to the room was so fast it was almost as if they were waiting outside the door for us.
And the highlight has to be the food in the Panorama Restaurant. Quite simply, the best meal I have ever had in a hotel. Amuse Bouche of mushroom ravioli, followed by half a dozen oysters, then a palate cleansing sorbet, and the main course was the most amazing piece of beef I have ever tasted, with oxtail thingy, sauce in a hollowed out onion, and green veg. The only tiny flaw was that the veg were very slightly overcooked. But this was made up for by the potatoes. We were told that this was the first night they had tried this potato dish, and the best I can say is that if my last meal on earth was just a bowl of these potatoes, I would die a happy man. Cubed, parboiled, fried off in butter, chopped onion, parmesan cheese, and a large cup of pure genius - worth a Michelin Star on their own.
I consider myself to be a demanding guest, in the sense that no matter how good a hotel is, there is always room for improvement, but in the case of the Europe, I have to say that it was absolute perfection. A credit to the owner, the management team, and all the staff. Bravo.

Had a one night stay in this hotel last week. It was an amazing experience. The setting is just beautiful and the hotel lay out allows the guest to experience this natural beauty throughout the hotel. There are many lovely areas to sit and relax. The hotel is spotless and the decor is very attractive with lovely comfortable furniture, tasteful sculpture pieces and art work throughout. The bedroom was spacious and comfortable. There is a coffee machine and tv with a great choice of channels, lovely bathroom, lovely bed linen, robes and towels. It is well worth paying extra for a lake view, the view is stunning. I cannot praise staff enough. Every staff member is so well trained, they are friendly and helpful and put the guests needs first. The spa and pool area is amazing and is so relaxing and luxurious. The hotel was very busy during our stay with lots of families but I still felt we had every opportunity to unwind and relax. The food although a little expensive is fresh, very well prepared and presented and most importantly very tasty. Although a little costly I thoroughly enjoyed my stay in The Europe and as the saying goes 'you get what you pay for'. We will be back!

We traveled here in July with 2 children under 6, I couldn’t recommend the hotel enough. It is absolutely spectacular but what really makes it special is how welcome children are made feel in the hotel.
Food
There’s a really great selection of food in the three restaurants. The children’s menu is extensive with lots of healthy options. Despite the hotel being busy service was amazing and quick.
Rooms
We booked a superior golf room online and then rang the hotel to arrange additional beds for children. On reflection if booking again I would go with a superior lake view as the view is just so beautiful. There are specific family rooms but they book up quickly.
Activities
The pool is open for children from 9-6pm.
The hot vitality pool overlooking the lake is amazing and is often empty.
There’s complimentary horse riding daily on stunning Palomino horses.
There’s a small playground.
You can hire a boat for €50 per hour and visit a local island. I would highly recommend this.
What to pack?
I would bring wellies/ rain jackets for heading to local beaches.
The rooms have DVD players so handy to bring dvds.
The room has an empty fridge so this was really handy for children’s items.
We will definitely be back to the hotel, it was a great stay.

This hotel has wonderful terrace views that you would not get in many places in Ireland. Once you are there it is hard to leave.
Staff were friendly and efficient and created a nice relaxed atmosphere and were always accommodating when we requested certain seating areas in the restaurants.
The Brasserie restaurant we found to be very good and catered well for young children. Breakfast was a high standard with plenty of choice and a nice vegan option available as well.
Pool area was well maintained and the outdoor heated pool was a real luxury especially during the warm weather when we visited during the last week of August.
The only criticism we would have is that the carpets could do with an upgrade as the carpets in our two rooms were a bit dated and in some parts stained. The balcony areas could do with better cleaning and the window ledges also.
We would definitely return at some stage.

My boyfriend and I spent two nights in the lake view room and we did not have a 5 star hotel experience. The bedroom view was amazing and the food was delicious but everything else was poor quality.
First of all, the room was very warm during the nights and we had to sleep with the balcony window open, because the hotel doesn't provide air conditioning. They did have a very cheap fan that made a lot of noise and barely produced any breeze at all.
We also found out the duvet was covered with fake tan or makeup and we complained about it to the reception, who told us it was going to be replaced but it never was.
In addition it was very awkward that there weren't any wall sockets for charging the phones next to the bed (we had to unplug the room phone or the lamp on the bedside table).
We asked for some information about the Gap of Dunloe (5 minutes away from the Hotel) and the receptionist didn't know anything about it. We were told we were going to get a call by the concierge but it never happened.
We found it ridiculous that everybody could use the swimming pool without any social distancing due to Covid19.
There was a small amount of mould in the shower as well as a broken fan for dealing with moisture.
We wanted to end our stay with breakfast in bed before checking out at 9.30 so we cancelled our breakfast reservation and filled out the breakfast form to be delivered between 8.30/9.00 am. At 9.30 am we left the room and the breakfast had never arrived. Why bother putting different time slots for breakfast if your unable uto deliver them during that 30 minute window? We left the 5 star hotel without any breakfast even though it was included. I can understand that these are crazy times and perhaps they are experiencing difficulties during covid, but I am very surprised at the level of service as well as infrastructure especially at the extortionate pricing. I would absolutely recommend this hotel for dinner/look at the views, but I will strongly encourage anyone I know to never waste your money staying here.

We used to visit the Europe 2 or 3 times per year but we were very disappointed with our last stay a couple of weeks ago.
Firstly, there was a dead, fried insect in my sautéed potatoes at breakfast. Upon bringing it to the attention of the manager, I was met with a shrug of the shoulders and “the windows are open more now because of the virus”. My husband also mentioned it to the duty manager on checkout and got a similar response. We weren’t looking for a discount on the bill but a sincere apology and some token would have been appreciated. Instead, they charged us €40 for a take away picnic consisting of 2 ham sandwiches, 2 mars bars and some fruit and told us that we couldn’t come back to use the pool after checking out (due to “coronavirus” !
Some people are less squeamish about insects in their food but I could not have breakfast there on the second morning due to the experience.
I got the impression that management simply didn’t care if we ever came back again, which, to me, is not a five star experience.
Maybe it takes a while to get a big hotel up and running 100% after lockdown but in general we felt the customer service, the food (the food in the lounge/bar was awful) and the facilities are not the same after lockdown but the price definitely is !

So I try to fair and I am so conflicted writing this review. I have had this hotel in such a pedestal and it truly was disappointing. My partner booked 2 nights, and was overwhelmed when we got there (it was a surprise) I couldn't believe I was going to be in my favourite hotel for 2 nights! When we arrived (after a 5 hour car journey we were well ready to get to our room to refresh) the room wasnt ready, so we waited from after 3 until nearly 5pm until our room was ready. I found this strange as the receptionist said the hotel was not at full capacity due to covid. Our room was absolutely gorgeous! The view was outstanding.
There were several issues, now I can understand the hotel only opened the week before but for the price we paid I really did expect better. It was a constant reminder to staff to get breakfast items( at one stage we had to ask 3 times for orange juice).
The carpet in the breakfast room (the larger one to the right) was filthy.
Our dinner in the panorama restaurant was 100% the staff were amazing, the food was out of this world, it was one of the most enjoyable things in the hotel.
We witnessed a staff member be extremely rude to another couple (he was lovely to us, I think they had made an issue out of something and there was a bit of tension). Another issue I had is that you would expect good communication between staff, my partner proposed to me down by the lake the first evening and we came back to order champagne, the staff congratulated us, and I thought there would be a card up in the room to congratulate us, or even a other staff such as the reception to wish us well or some small acknowledgment but nothing.
The icing was on the cake when we paid, nobody asked us how was our stay was. So I asked for a manager to give some constructive criticism (the bill was paid and we were not looking for a discount) I raised all the issues and he did apologise, and followed up with a email apologising again. Saying Covid had took alot out of everybody, which I completely understood where he was coming from, but it wasn't good enough. With such high Hope's of finally staying in my favourite hotel in Ireland, I really dont think I'd rush back again, the galgorm has a far better experience for a quarter of the price. Maybe if I lived nearer to it i would give it another try, but I definitely wouldn't be rushing back. It really is so disappointing as my partner picked that hotel to propose because how high I had it up my estimation, but sadly there was so many little things that went wrong it just wasnt worth the money.

Paid €760 to stay in the Europe for two nights, still here. Got 1 of maybe 100 rooms with a blocked view with no discounted price (see pic). Room had a leak on balcony that took two hours (and five unanswered calls to reception) to resolve. Booked dinner in the ‘panorama restaurant’ over a week in advance requesting a window view and was told this would be done on a best effort basis. Arrived tonight to a view overlooking the rooms and although disappointing did not raise any concerns. Two minutes later our waiter offered the next table to be seated after us a superior view in a different room. We raised our concerns and told the manager we had requested a window view to be told ‘yeah like everyone else’. Our concern was that the older couple (and many after that) were being favoured. We were told the window views were reserved for larger groups. We subsequently saw three more couples get seated in window views while we watched on. The original waiter then sarcastically asked how our meal was. We spent two weeks in b and bs around Kerry and Cork in far superior accommodation at fair prices, very disappointed with the Europe. Wouldn’t stay again.

The Europe exceeded nearly every expectation with it being the capstone to our stay in Ireland. The location directly on the lake and proximity to all that Killarney, Dingle, and the Ring of Kerry have to offer made it a perfect place to stay. The rooms were luxurious, spacious, and obviously high quality with no noise coming from other rooms or the hallway. The pool and sauna were great, and the ESPA Spa was particularly exceptional; my wife raving about the attention to detail during the massage and facial treatment. The dining experiences were varied and all quite good; we enjoyed the Riva, most of all, as it was tucked away and the food superb. The only small snafu, as another reviewer mentioned, was our room was not ready when we arrived a bit after 3pm, and we waited with complimentary drinks for it to be ready. Definitely will be our stay of choice when we return.
