I managed to secure a last minute booking for an outside room, due to the covid restrictions we could only have room only which was absolutely fine.
We arrived at lunchtime, the check-in was very simple and efficient and we were shown our room which was perfect.
The room was cosy and the bathroom had the most lovely smelling range of shampoo, shower gels and creams.
We went out for the afternoon, and returned to our cosy room ready for our evening meal.
We sat in a gazebo outside our room, and although the weather was dreadful we were warm and dry.
I had a child's portion of Fish and chips, (More than enough for an adult) the tartar sauce and mushy peas that came with it were uniquely different, and my partner had cod, the presentation was beautifully done.
We ate everything, it was delicious.
The service was excellent throughout.
I would love to have a return visit, the views were amazing.

We booked The Brown Horse Inn with an away day voucher we received for Christmas and we were not disappointed. The bar is very quaint with friendly staff, there is plenty of outside seating sand the rooms are spotlessly clean and the added bonus of wicker seats and a table outside the room was very nice. We went to Windermere during the day and returned to the hotel. We had a few drinks then went for dinner. The portions were huge, we maybe should have just ordered a starter and pudding. The staff were all very friendly and nothing was too much bother. The breakfast the next morning was also huge and very tasty. You order your breakfast the night before so there is no waiting for orders to be taken. We were served tea and coffee as soon as we sat down, and were shown where the cereals, etc were for us to help ourselves. It was a very simple checkout too. We would definitely return.

Impromptu family evening meal whilst in the area. Menu isn't massive, but is comprehensive enough to feed our family with tastes ranging from Dad who will want to try the most esoteric item on the menu. To downright frustratingly picky Son number one, via a range of standard favourites. Style is pub restaurant cuisine, but to a very nice standard. Service was excellent, with plenty of staff j6.
Wait for food wasn't too long; about 20 minutes from order to service. We had a pack of cards with us and managed to keep our two young children just about occupied until their meals were in front of them. The pub does have a small selection of games to entertain yourselves with whilst waiting.
Price was a few pounds more than we might have paid elsewhere, but thats my fault for allowing the children a third round of drinks and a pudding. Be aware though that adding cheese to your burger meal will cost you a couple of quid extra.
Well worth it though. Comfortable atmosphere with smartly atired folk, and people in at the end of a walking day dressed accordingly. We all fitted in very nicely.
Only the meanest of skinflinty grumpy people wouldn't happily leave a tip for the hard working staff.
Have eaten here before and won't hesitate to visit again.

We stayed here for the fourth time in total and the third time this year with my brother and his wife and were really looking forward to it.
It is difficult to write a review when you like a place so much but words need saying and maybe the owners will take note.
The food in the restaurant and service was first class; no doubt.
Prices have increased as I said in my previous review but to be expected with the Covid situation this year.
We had a room in the main building and this was fine with a lovely big bed and nice bathroom. Good view too over the countryside.
However the following points need addressing in my view and the owner needs to value his customers more and take care of them otherwise they will not return:

Hot water went from cold to scalding for some reason - maybe the thermostat in the shower control needs attention.

Mixer tap in the sink loose and swivels from side to side.

WiFi totally none existent and that together with a poor phone signal is not acceptable.

Really bad smell in the car park and reception area needs attention as it was sickening.

Receptionist needs attention as the one we saw was totally miserable and a barrier to customers. Try smiling please.

The windows and paintwork need attention and a coat of paint would not harm although some of the woodwork is beyond a coat of paint.

As I said, it is sad when words like this have to be written, but my reviews are honest and praise where praise is due.

Thank you to Lorna, Rebecca and all the restaurant staff who did smile a lot.

Great selection of food, from pub classics to bistro style meals. We had the ham croquettes to start, cod fillet and the ravioli for main, and then shared the chocolate baileys delice with black cherry.... the pudding especially was SO good... I'd come here again just for pudding!! Service was a little slow as they cook to order, but they warned us as we originally hadn't ordered a starter. They were really friendly and even brought us a citronella candle as a fly kept bothering us. It was a nice little place with a quirky interior and great value for money.

First off, this isn't cheap, as a couple for 3 courses with drinks, it came to about £100 but it's definitely worth a visit.

We had no wait, as we arrived at the time booked (to be Covid compliant), parking is a little limited though, we had to wait until someone left but it's testament to the popularity of the place!

Food wise, I started with the soup - carrot and coriander, served with some warm bread, really was delicious, better than any I have had elsewhere, delicately balanced spice, maybe a bit more bread (another slice) would be nice? Good portion size too. Partner enjoyed her mushrooms on toasted sourdough (I think?).

Mains, I asked for lamp rump rare but was so melt in the mouth, could probably have been well done and still been tender. Partner had the trout which I tried and was nicely cooked, flakey and tasty. We had a side of salad and runner beans which were a generous portion easily enough for two.

She finished with the cheese board which was a good amount for the price and I had the sticky toffee pudding which came with a nice sauce and ginger ice-cream which was very tasty and complimented the toffee nicely.

Only negative was the coffee taking 2 asks and some delay in getting but in current strange times it can be forgiven.

We never felt rushed and the place is nicely setup to be a reasonable distance from other tables. Has a good beer selection too

Just arrived home after 4 nights in Room 4. We had a fantastic time with weather to match. The pub and restaurant are just great with plenty of outdoor seating. The food was Premier League with the biggest fish and chips I have ever had in my life. The bar well stocked with Craft Beers, what more could you ask for. The room was nice and comfortable, one only drawback and this is small, the bathroom could do with a shelf over the sink and soap holder in the shower. The shower nearly knocks you off your feet with it's power brilliant. "NOW" what made our stay special was the staff and I mean "ALL" the staff. They are all ever so friendly, polite and can't do enough to make your stay memorable. They all worked so hard. Now there are 2 names that I must mention first Rachel on reception for going out of her way to extend our nights and was ever so friendly. The trophy has to go to Nadine who worked so hard every single day serving breakfast. Nadine worked tirelessly and I sincerely mean that, you deserve a medal Nadine or maybe a little help lol. Would we return,, without a shadow of doubt. Thank you all so much.

We arrived at the pub/hotel and was greeted by Craig who was absolutely great showed me to our room and through our stay was so nice and helpful and made our stay amazing. Also through out our stay Lorna was fantastic again made us feel very much at home and comfortable and went out of her way to make sure we were ok so I would like to say thank you to them and everyone else at The Brown Horse Inn each and everyone of you made us feel special. Our room was amazing set to the side of the pub we were able to sit outside our room and have few drinks in the beautiful weather. The room was lovely so clean and tidy and so comfortable. The bathroom was wonderful a great working shower and so clean and looked after as was all the property. The surrounding are out of this world and on our second evening we watch hot air balloons going past as the sun set. We had two evening meals at the inn that were fantastic absolutely beautiful meals well done cokes to perfection with amazing tastes. The second night friends joins us for our evening meal and they too were made to feel so welcome and were very happy with the meals they received. The breakfast also were absolutely spot on and we wouldn’t of changed a thing. The whole stay was out of this world and with it only being about 6 minute drive from Windermere it was a great location as we had things planned to do around the lake. I would definitely teco a sat at the Brown Horse and we in the near future will be returning again. Thank you everyone

A bit of the beaten track but in a pleasant setting with indoor & outdoor seating and friendly staff. Typical pub menu including a good choice of sandwiches. We opted for their hot ciabatta rolls (chicken & avocado; bacon , brie & cranberry) which were both very tasty but far too big for us. In hindsight one between us would have been enough. Bigger appetites would be very happy. We weren’t disappointed with our lunch but it wasn’t so good that I would be tempted to take a detour for a return.

My husband and I recently stayed in the area for a long weekend. Not really knowing the area we booked in for Sunday lunch having seen a few reviews on Instagram. We were not disappointed and would highly recommend.
The pub itself is lovely, cosy and quaint. The staff were very attentive and friendly. The food was delicious as was the dessert, the rest of the menu looked great so I’m only sad we didn’t have time to go back again. I would advise booking to avoid disappointment as it was very busy and some people were turned away.

I'm really sorry but I've no idea whether they take dogs or not. You'd be better phoning the hotel direct to ask whether they are dog friendly or not.

Hi Susan Like the other respondents we stayed in the Inn itself. We were certainly provided with towels and a hair drier. Given the standard of the dining I would be most surprised If you would need to take condiments but as previously suggested a phone call to the helpful staff at the Inn I am sure will get you all the answers you need.
