We visited on a Sunday evening with a booked table for 3 that was extended to 4 of us as I joined the party last minute. I had a really nice meal with excellent real ale. I had a rabbit pasta starter, liver and bacon and finished with the cheese board and a glass of excellent port. Would I recommend?...

My friend from Saffron Walden and I had planned to meet here before Christmas after one or two not-so-good experiences at a hostelry nearer to Bishop's Stortford, but it had to be postponed. Today was the day. I suppose, from earlier experiences of choosing places to eat for friends when I lived up in Northumberland, one shouldn't rely on good...

Arrived to immediate attention, had booked room and shown to it by polite staff. Room 19 which was just across the road. Large room in chalet style. Huge bed lovely bathroom, water, biscuits, tea coffee etc. Cosy on a chilly day in March. Enquired about dinner, even though had not booked, but no problem even though they were busy. Lovely food hot...

We visited the cricketers as a party of 7 for Sunday lunchtime. The restaurant was busy and vibrant with old fashioned decor mixed with modern dining. We had antipasti to start which was fresh and tasty. The pickled mushrooms were delicious. For mains the lamb roast and sirloin steak are highly recommended. Hot fresh and tasty with traditional sides. The...

First visit. Four foodies, so we decided to give the Cricketers a go, based on it's reputation as a great place to eat. Andwe were not disappointed. All of the food was first class - really good, upmarket pub food, service friendly and excellent. Worked out about £40 per head for main and dessert, with drinks and a tip, which...

We met here as it was quite central for my sister and niece. When we arrived we were made very welcome, our room keys were issued and we were shown to our rooms. It was a lovely day so we sat out and had morning coffee in the area at the front of the pub. We took a trip out...

Dropped in for a Sunday lunchtime drink. Very little space given over to people who just want to have a drink and sit down! Place was very busy with people having lunch. Staff friendly. Drinks reasonably priced. Eventually found an empty table to sit at in the bar area, but not sure if we were going to be turfed off...

Went for quiet drink/ meal with my husband. Was met by rude, overpowering, loud, snobbish barmaid. Completely unnecessary ! Blunt, rude answer when we enquired about a meal. Blunt, wild, rude "airborne" gesticulations of tables we could " use" if they were not already laid up .... PLUS the restaurant wreaked of damp... ( a musty smell) Won't ever be returning.

I have wanted to eat here for a few years now and for my birthday I decided that this was going to be my choice. The service was ok, nothing special. My starter, pigeon, again was just ok. My mains the trio of pork was very dry. Apart from the pork belly which was nice. Wouldn't recommend as just think...
