Stayed one week in August for 4 people in the 1D apartment. We chose it for its decoration and its 2 outdoor terraces, one overlooking the Caribbean Sea, which sometimes has the appearance of a real lake, and the other, the Atlantic Ocean and its big waves, in the distance. As this apartment is upstairs, the view is plunging and the sunsets inratable.
The place is located in the middle of the island in longitude, close to Governors Harbor airport. Arriving and departing from this airport is the most convenient way to stay. You have to count an extra drop off/pick up for the rental car (essential) and 45 minutes drive if you arrive via North Eleuthera on the other hand. The location is interesting to radiate on the island since we are approximately equidistant from the sites that deserve a walk, north and south. There is also a medical center not far away if needed. On the other hand, no really large food store nearby, just extra stores, so follow the advice that is given after booking to refuel. Few restaurants with flexible hours around: you have to be punctual and enjoy dinner early!
The 1D apartment is consistent with the photos: large, nicely decorated and rather well equipped. The kit is provided for dishwasher and washing machine. The rooms are large and comfortable. We can only regret that the air conditioning is a little outdated in this unit, that the toilets are not separated and that there is little pressure in the showers. The steward of the property, Brett, is unadulterated in all areas. He advised and troubleshooted us several times.
On the property, no reception strictly speaking, you have to synchronize with Brett precisely, and you can enjoy the golf carts (especially to reach the beach on the Atlantic side), the swimming pool, but also a brand new pickle ball court in the middle of the vegetation: a real plus. However, plan to bring your equipment (rackets and balls).
The general atmosphere is calm and family. The two buildings that make up the place represent only a dozen memory apartments. No nuisance other than mosquitoes! The value for money seemed quite consistent compared to other accommodation options on the island, and Brett’s assistance also makes the difference. In summary, a very good stay.

We stayed in the first level condo. Our host (Nelson) was so super helpful to provide us recommendations for dinner, sight seeing and local gems. The place had a nice living room, dining area, kitchen and two bedrooms with their own washrooms plus a washer and dryer. Nice balcony looking to the Caribbean sea on one side and another veranda looking towards the Atlantic ocean. This place is 20min by an Island hopper from Nassau. It did not disappoint! We are planning to go back next year!

This was our second visit to Buttonwood Reserve. It is a lovely small complex that offers everything you need! It is on the Caribbean Ocean (but it is rocky/coral) which has beautiful blue clear quite waters. They provide golf carts to make a short drive to the Atlantic Ocean to a private beautiful beach which is usually empty! The Atlantic Ocean has waves and seems a bit more windy. The pickleball court is great! We had another great visit to one of our favorite islands..

We had a large group book this location for 5 nights. I understand that it is difficult to maintain an island property with the elements, etc. so some wear and tear is to be expected. While it had everything a large group could want from the description, there were pretty large issues we experienced: We lost power 3 nights in a row. We were averaging 5 or so hours per day with power. While at first we were told it was a larger part of the island experiencing the outage, as we went to dinner and elsewhere it became apparent that it was only Buttonwood and Buttonwood does not have generators. The only assistance we received from the property manager was an extra lantern per unit.
The loss of power in turn affected our ability to charge the golf carts (it is quite a walk to the beach) and keep food that we had purchased at a safe temperature. On the last day of our shortened stay we then experienced a loss of water and were unable to shower, wash hands, flush toilets, etc. The property manager was aware of these issues, but no resolutions were offered. We left and stayed at a nearby resort for the final 2 nights, incurring this additional cost ourselves.
In our condo specifically, the latch to the door was broken (so you could only close the door if you used the key), one window wouldn't open, screens broken and the AC unit in the twin bedroom only operated as a fan. We felt it necessary to leave in order to enjoy the island to the fullest.

Response from Matthew Simon, Agency / Consultant at Buttonwood Reserve Condominiums
Responded Feb 8, 2023
There was a fire in the Hatchet Bay Power Plant that week which caused widespread outages around the island, and then power surges which damaged the terminals in the power pole closest to this property. It took several days for the power company to diagnose and rectify the problem, resulting in sporadic outages on the property during this time. This was a power company issue, and there was nothing the local property manager could do. Most properties on the island do not have back-up generators because events like this are rare. This group rented many units for this week. Some members claimed to have rented another property and threatened a negative review if they were not given reimbursement. They were asked to submit documentation of what was spent, but they provided nothing, so no reimbursement was given. Hence the review. Please see our 68 other five-star reviews.

Great experience at Buttonwood. Pictures we viewed when making our decision were accurate.
Wonderful private beach that is part of miles and miles of remote beaches. Easy to grab one of buttonwood’s golf cart, for free, to take to the private/remote beach.
Real close to two bar/restaurants that certain days of week have music. One of the places, Delich, has unbelievable staff and food right on the beach!! Very nice kitchen we used to cook once in a while. Beautiful views from patio to watch sunset with a drink.
The staff a buttonwood is most friendly and responsive. We didn’t use the pool, but a number of other guests did, and they seemed to really enjoy its cleanliness and comfortable temperature.

Excellent property, sitting just off the Caribbean side with golf cart access to a huge always-empty Atlantic side beach. At most, we saw one or two other people on the beaches, excluding a wedding party taking photos at one point. The Caribbean beach is definitely rockier, but it's not too bad (wear water shoes), and the calm clear water is perfect for just lounging in.
Condo was clean and well equipped; four in-wall A/C units kept things cool. The pool was clean though the water was really warm in late June/early July, so we spent more time in the oceans. Staff were friendly and attentive, though we only needed them a couple of times.
Great location away from Governor's Harbor, but not too far away for shopping trips. Eleuthera's an amazing island, and Buttonwood is a great place to stay to experience it all.

Our stay at Buttonwood was absolutely wonderful! The condo was very clean with all expected amenities. We cook a lot so we had to improvise a bit, but that is expected. The property amenities were as described and more: there were plenty of kayaks, paddle boards, beach chairs, floaties, life vests, and an umbrella to use during our stay. Being so close to the Caribbean and walking down whenever we wanted with the beach to ourselves was incredible! Golf carts to the Atlantic- again our own beautiful beach- although some of the golf carts didn’t operate well. There was always one available though. We walked and ride bikes to JC to eat and get some groceries. So convenient! 20-40 min drive to many other beaches, sites, and towns! Really enjoyed the Friday night fish fry in GH. Would go back in a heartbeat!

Yes, yes yes. The condo is everything one would want, size, comfort, cleanliness, amenities. You can't go wrong. Let me share why we would stay again. My husband and I like to rent beachfront houses. Nice ones are expensive so that is typically done with friends. This visit to Eleuthera was just to two of us so we needed something else. Buttonwood Reserve was the perfect fit. In addition to the lovely interior and grounds, what sold us were the golf carts which provided the beach access we desired and bikes which let us ride to the nearby eatery options (all within walking distance really - a mile).
At any rate the worst day there consisted of us packing the golf cart for a beach day on the Atlantic side on a beautifully warm, sunny, breezy day. After arriving and setting up chairs and umbrella we realized it was much more than breezy, it was downright windy. After toughing it out for ten minutes getting sandblasted, we packed up, returning to our condo and setting up shop on the beautiful deck overlooking the Caribbean Sea. There it was warm and sunny with a slight breeze. We laid on the lounge chairs enjoying the sounds of the Caribbean Sea (because it's that close) while sipping cocktails one enjoys during holiday while the sound of the waves and the soft music we played intermingled creating a uniquely perfect symphony. This was followed yet another epic sunset and an evening of star gazing.
The rest of the days were perfect and spent at the beach. So yeah. One can have a lovely place to stay but if the experience isn't there it's just "nice." This was a complete package.
Notes: I believe Buttonwood was almost full but it was super quiet and we rarely passed anyone. As with everywhere in the Bahamas, the noseeums are fierce so if sensitive like me, bring the repellent and expect to use it often and liberally.

Great Condo with spectacular views in all directions! Central location on the island made it great for exploring beaches, settlements and other sites. Golf cart made it easy to enjoy their beautiful private Atlantic beach. Property staff very courteous and helpful. Da Perk was our favorite lunch spot, and Rainbow Inn was good for dinner. Highly recommend.

We spent 5 nts at this condo and couldn't have been happier. Eleuthera Vacation Rentals does a great job with recommendations and their staff is superior. Our condo was very clean, bright and airy and well kept, centrally located mid-island and all units have great views of the Caribbean. A golf cart is included in the rental to access the Atlantic beach. Would be a great place for a family to rent all the units. We would definitely return.

Good question! The Atlantic side beach will have very calm days in the summer, but it will also have days with waves, so you could have either, depending on the wind. The Caribbean side shore will almost always be as calm as a lake, so you can use that side if the Atlantic is too wavy. The Caribbean side is not a great beach, somewhat rocky, but it's good for small children when the Atlantic is rough, and it is used a lot for kayaking, paddle-boarding, snorkeling, and fishing.
Good question! The golf carts are not street legal. They are for use around the 50-acre property only. Pretty much everyone who visits Eleuthera rents a car. The island is large, rural and spread out, and there is a lot to see and do. The distances are too large for a golf cart.
Good question! Eleuthera does NOT have water-borne diseases like Mexico. The municipal water is safe to drink. That said, most visitors drink bottled water anyway, just to feel secure. It's available everywhere and is not expensive.
