What makes Galley Bay so appealing is the beachside location. The resort sits on its own stretch of beach which makes it feel very exclusive. Beachside rooms have direct access to the beach with sun loungers allocated to each room. Rooms are large, very clean (so clean, we made a point of thanking the cleaning crew and giving them a tip) with excellent air conditioning, large showers and a comfy king size bed. Food was part fabulous and part disappointing. Ismays was so good the first time, we booked a second, but it was not as fabulous the second visit. So not consistent. Sea Grape, dinner was consistently excellent, especially any dish containing fish. Gaugin was good, but you have to book and we kept forgetting to book and by the time we remembered, no tables. Breakfast at Sea Grape was nothing special, a little underwhelmed if I was honest. The coffee at breakfast was not good at all. We loved the little coffee shop, the ladies were lovely, and they made a great latte so we would stop by grab a latte and then walk over to Sea Grape for breakfast. The barefoot grill was truly awful. Sorry, it really was. Some minor comments, but they are worth mentioning. Barefoot grill.......if you are on the beach and want to grab quick food without having to get all cleaned up, this is the only location to grab food.....they need to improve the food here, it was shockingly bad. Likewise, the outdoor bar on the beach was absolutely gorgeous, but it closes at 7pm! I feel the biggest asset of the resort is this bar, it's a great location, central to everything, but they close it so early. Nuts! Beach towels.....we got two when we got to our room, but after a week stay, we still have no idea how to get clean ones. I will add that part of the charm is the peace and tranquility of the resort. No banging loud music while at the pool or on the beach and no guests being obnoxious and playing loud music and you could actually relax and hear the sounds of the ocean and the birds. It is not a party party party resort, it was really lovely, and I hope they continue this. I will say the evening entertainment was great! Also, shout out to Alfred, otherwise known as Alfred The Great. He is a truly lovely person and so very helpful. All of the ladies we interacted with a customer service were just lovely and we appreciated them all so much, especially with our endless questions. We had a great trip on Captain Seans boat, such a great way to see the island, so interesting to see the other resorts we considered and realizing that the Galley Bay location cannot be beat. Overall, we had a lovely relaxing week and big thank you to Galley Bay and the whole team, we hope to return in 2025.

Dear Valued Guests, Thank you very much indeed for taking the time to leave us this review and your honest feedback. We are always looking for ways to improve and will certainly look into your highlighted areas. With regards to TeePee bar, it is certainly not the norm for this bar to close at 7pm. We will certainly look into why this may have been during your stay. Thank you again for taking the time to leave us this review and we look forward to welcoming you back home again soon. Kind regards, All of us at Galley Bay Resort

From the moment we arrived to be greeted with a rum punch and checked in, until the sad day we checked out we had a wonderful time here. Staying here we were completely relaxed and de-stressed so quickly after a challenging year for us. We had a premium beach front suite, it was beautiful, spacious and well equipped. Apparently these had been refurbished relatively recently, the bathroom particularly was great with a large walk in shower area. The rest of the suite was really nice. The view from the suite across the beach and listening to the sound of the waves at night was so relaxing. The regularly re-stocked mini bar was a bonus and we were never lacking for a drink. There was the one time that the re-stock of beer never arrived, but it led to a laugh with our neighbours on the sunbeds when he shared a couple of beers with me, he said he hadn't ordered any but they had arrived at his suite! It turns out they were mine. All the staff were friendly and worked really hard to ensure we had a great stay. They ranged from the ultra friendly/can't do enough type of people (which were the majority) down to a few who weren't quite so friendly, but even these few were never rude and worked hard. There were some stand out staff who made the stay so easy for us. Even staff who weren't usually customer facing, like the housekeeping team and the many gardeners were all keen to greet you with a smile and a good morning. There was a manager's cocktail hour where we got to meet the team which was a nice touch. One of the staff we accidentally bumped into whilst cycling round the resort was the gardener in charge of the fruit and veg growing on site - we thought we had ventured into a staff only area by mistake, but he quickly waved us over, welcoming us and started a conversation, proudly showing us the produce growing in his fields. He was clearly passionate about his job and was rightly proud to show us, also educating us along the way. We had a pleasant time walking round learning about the gardens and he even helped my wife's bug bites with some fresh Aloe Vera. Guest services were always really helpful. We managed yoga every weekday, except the one day we couldn't book on because it was so full but 7 out of a possible 8 weekdays wasn't bad. Both my wife and I really enjoyed it as a start to the day, the classes were very beginner friendly (good for me) and Mackenzie was mindful of the range of abilities/experience in the class. She gave us an energising yet relaxing way to start our days. The food here was really good. Let's start with Ismay's, the special restaurant which needs booking and a small extra fee of $50 pp. The food here was AMAZING, it was a really special night and worth the extra fee. We really liked the staff recommendations to accompany our meals. The next up is the Gauguin restaurant, this also needs booking for evening meals but not for lunch and there's no extra fee. The setting is wonderful whether it's an evening meal by candlelight or a lunchtime meal with views over the beach and bay. The food was great, everything we ate we loved. 3 times we paid a small extra fee for lobster - this was well worth it, it was some of the biggest and best tasting lobster I have had. Barefoot grill - we didn't think we'd use a 'fast food' type grill, but we did and we were glad we did. A couple of times we just wanted a simple snack, not a full blown meal. We loved the catch of the day grills, they were so tasty, fresh and easy along with the tuna press. The coffee shop had great opening hours, it was popular not just for the coffee but also for a regularly changing variety of really good ice cream and fresh cookies! Seagrape was the 'standard' restaurant, no booking required and where breakfast, lunch and evening meals were served. But there was nothing standard here, the staff were friendly and the food was all freshly cooked to order and we never had a bad meal. No buffet here, except the fruit, pastries and similar for breakfast. Either pancakes or freshly cooked omelettes were our favourites. Lunch and dinner had regularly changing menus and everything we tried was tasty. On the Thursday there was the Caribbean barbeque - which was wonderful. Again the only buffet was the salad, vegetables, rice etc. The suckling pig and the freshly grilled fish, ribs, chicken and steak were all really nice. It's a shame that our 10 day stay meant we only got to have it once! Bars - we never waited long for a drink, it's such a small resort and the bar staff were friendly and efficient. We must have tried every type of cocktail on the list, but often we were happy with a simple rum punch or a beer (and the odd bucks fizz in the morning!). The rum shack was a cool way to sample a range of rums for me. Staff did come along the beach a couple of times a day offering drinks, it wasn't a lot but it did save us the few minutes walk along the beach to the bar a few times. It really was no drama to stroll along and get a drink. Dress code was very relaxed through the day, whether in the bar or the restaurants. After 6.30 it was a smart casual affair, simply long trousers and collared shirts for men and dresses for the ladies, but we liked this, making a proper evening of it. Entertainment was good every night, often quite easy listening but the acts were all very talented with some guest dancing most nights. The resort as a whole was very tidy, well maintained and looked after. Work on keeping the gardens beautiful seemed constant and the resort clearly puts lots of effort into the beautiful surroundings. We never used the pool, preferring the beach right outside our room - it looked like a lovely area but sheltered from the breeze of the beach. We had a lovely couples massage together in the spa. My wife, who is a beauty therapist who does massages herself, said her male therapist gave one of the best massages she's ever had. Having cycles available free to use was a nice touch. We only used them once and to be honest don't expect new bikes, they were simple, free and easy to use to tour around the resort. There were some days when the red flag prevented use of the watersport equipment, probably half our 10 day stay but this really didn't cause us any drama. We made use of the free beach shuttle one day, with one of the watersports team accompanying us to Deep Water Bay. We did try both the SUP and a double kayak on blue flag days and these were fun. There was some good snorkelling with masks and snorkles provided in our room. Even when there was a red flag the sea was ok for dipping into when hot from the sun, with the average see temp being 26 Celsius! Perhaps if your main aim is using the watersports equipment or swimming then the fairly regular red flag conditions might cause you a problem, but honestly it had little or no impact on our stay, I was still in the water every single day and my wife most days.
Our only criticisms - and these are very minor - are as follows: The Gauguin restaurant had 2 sittings, an early and a late. Having a late meal meant missing most of the entertainment, but trying to book in for an early sitting was impossible for us, with all the slots apparently booked by 7.30am! It could only be booked a day in advance so we never got the chance for anything but the later slots. Perhaps they should consider a slight change to allow people who haven't been able to get an early slot to book farther ahead as it seemed to be the same people getting the early slot every time. I know we could have tried earlier but we were on holiday and getting up in time for 8am yoga was hard enough work! The housekeeping staff did a really good job of cleaning the suite, including sweeping the patio, but we would have welcomed some sort of brush to be able to sweep it ourselves again later in the day after we had dragged more sand onto it. Bugs. We hadn't noticed them particularly at the time but both of us suffered bad bug bites in the first 24 hours - our fault really as we hadn't applied the bug repellent we had brought, not noticing the sand flies until after they had done the damage. Once we started using the repellent we were ok, but make sure you take it and use it. That's about all we can think of, none of that spoiled our trip.
In summary we had an amazing holiday trip, we will absolutely return again. We had been to Antigua 6 years previously in a different hotel, we love the island but Galley Bay is hands down one of the best experiences we have had, having travelled far and wide. I can see why they have so many return guests, whilst we like to explore different places and can't see us being one of the guests they get returning for a tenth or fifteenth time - we will certainly return and can see us returning more than once!
We are a well-travelled married couple in our fifties!

Just back after 10 glorious days at Galley Bay, wish we were still there.
There are not enough words to describe this glorious hotel, we went to celebrate my husband’s 70th birthday and our 25th anniversary of being together.
We had a rocky start as Virgin in it’s wisdom chose to pick up one of our checked in cases and leave the other behind (we have air tags so knew exactly where they were at all times). We arrived tired and frustrated after a long journey from the U.K. to be met with charm and care from all concerned, plus the rum punch was most appreciated.
We are beach sitters so our delightful room on the beach was perfect and a welcoming bottle of bubbly, a bottle of both red and white wine and a fridge stocked with water, beer, Coca Cola and sprite was very much appreciated. The “rehydration station” just down from our room gave chilled water and ice. You can safely drink the water as they have their own water treatment plant, so it is totally safe. The room was well appointed and spotless.
We had our own designated beach loungers and two more on our deck outside the room. Beach drinks service was divine. There was a red flag every day so no sea swimming but to be honest it did not bother us in the slightest, if we had been desperate to go into the sea there is a curtesy bus each morning to a calmer beach. If you go at this time of year expect there to be bumpy seas, it is not the hotels fault.
Bed very comfy especially as we are two older patrons who can creak on not so good mattresses, bed linen changed every other day and towels in abundance changed daily with waffle robes. Good supply of toiletries too. Beach towel changed as often as you choose, just go to the water sports area.
We ate mostly in the SeaGrape restaurant no reservation required, excellent selection on the menu each day, constantly changing served beautifully. To my husband’s delight they had home baked gluten free bread!!! Which he assures me was delicious, coeliacs please note every care was taken over all is meals, we were very impressed as he has a severe wheat allergy alongside being a coeliac.
On his birthday we booked at Ismays as a special treat, was worth the extra cost as it was a special occasion but to be honest the food is good everywhere you eat.
The all abiding thing you will notice is the smiling faces all around, the staff are absolutely lovely. Whoever you speak to they are helpful, happy and totally professional, nothing is too much trouble. Every day there is some form of entertainment usually staring around 20.00/20.30, local bands, local dancers. All very entertaining. A good cocktail menu and staff willing to be guided by guests to mix something they fancy, we introduced them to a “Baby Guinness”, not exactly as a home but tasted delicious.
All in all I cannot fault Galley Bay Hotel and Spa and only have high praise for them from the top to the bottom.

Sadly this was exceptionally disappointing for the price we paid and the fact we were on honeymoon and this was never acknowledged neither were we made to feel special.
This is extremely expensive and I have stayed at other Caribbean hotels for less than or sandals and had much more for my money including swim up bars, multiple pools, free upgrades for special occasions or extra charges waived but this did not happen here. Despite being our honeymoon there was an extra charge at ismays restaurant but the food was awful. We had lobster but it wasn’t a whole lobster in a shell, it was chunks of lobster that was chewy and sinewy. The basic restaurant had much nicer food.
There also was a lot of return guests surprisingly. However, they seemed to get preferential treatment, meaning they would get served before you despite you having ordered before them.
Staff were friendly on occasions but sometimes came across unfriendly.
The hotel describes itself as cashless to protect guests and staff so no tipping. However, I heard a member of staff giving a talk to newcomers and telling them that they do take tips.
Despite the opulent price tag there is nothing opulent about the hotel. It is more shabby chic. I would describe it as a bit like the emperors new clothes. Everyone cooing over his naked body saying his clothes were magnificent when in reality there was nothing there and this is the same of the hotel.
Pluses, if you have more money than sense and the price tag is just small change to you then you are paying for a small hotel which equals a tranquil setting. There are no buffets at lunch or dinner and it is all table service. There are international drinks but these are not used to make the cocktails.
The only thing we were offered as honeymooners was 25% discount at the Spa which we didn’t use as they were charging $500 for a couples massage. The excursions in Antigua are equally as expensive so we opted to spend our money on these rather than a massage. When on checking out we asked if they could waive the charge at the restaurant as we had not used this they refused until we said how disappointed we were. They did not waive the charge which was $50 per head (certainly not worth it) instead they refunded $25 which is an insult.
So if you are looking for an extra special wedding or honeymoon do not choose here unless of course as I say money is no object. If it isn’t then you will be thoroughly disappointed.
We for sure, sadly despite this being our honeymoon, will not return.

Dear Valued Guests, We are very sorry to hear of your dissatisfaction with your stay and hope that you enjoyed some elements of your special honeymoon. Our team works very hard to help each guest have a memorable and special stay with us so it saddens us to hear that yours was not. According to our records the 25% spa voucher and honeymoon welcome were placed in your room, however we are very sorry if for some reason you did not receive this. Unfortunately when checking in with you during your stay, we were not made aware of your disappointments in order to try to correct any issues you may have been facing. We are always willing to work hard to make our guests happy and do our best to improve each day. Just returned from 12 great nights at Galley Bay. Been before, but many years ago, so a lot of additions, improvements and investment since then. The whole place is relaxing, totally enjoyable and with a stunning beach and views. The food and drinks are top quality, with premium brand spirits, a good wine selection and an excellent menu choice in all restaurants. Our room was very well serviced every day by lovely housekeeping staff and the minibar restocked daily with whatever drinks we requested. The Teepee bar is a great place to socialise and chat to other guests, with your glass constantly topped up by Caryl and her colleagues! The restaurants and kitchen staff do a fabulous job and all meals are freshly cooked to a high standard. The only buffet- style food is the weekly lunchtime barbecue and the breakfast items, but at breakfast there is also a menu of freshly cooked dishes. The grounds and garden areas are immaculate, with a team of gardeners constantly working every day. They even rake and clean the beach. There are plenty of pathways to have a stroll and watch the birds, the little reptiles and see the tortoise sanctaury. Entertainment is provided every evening and depending on ones taste in music, there are some really good musicians. The steel drum guys were brilliant, as was the Saturday evening band with the great cricketer Curtly Ambrose on bass guitar. As stated by many other reviews, what excels at Galley Bay and makes the whole place such a holiday delight are the staff. They are so friendly and efficient and obviously well-trained and mentored, which is a reflection of the high standard of management here. They are given every opportunity to fulfill their potential and many have risen from trainees to senior managers over the years. It would be very unfair to single out certain staff over others, but we were hugely impressed with Stuart in the Seagrape restaurant, Caryl at the Teepee bar, Derrick the Operations Manager, Vincent the Food and Beverage Manager and my new Antiguan friend Nathaniel, the Executive Chef. What a great group of people, with excellent staff reporting to them. Finally, a huge thanks to General Manager Antoine, who's obviously backed by a great team. Please hold on to them! It was probably the best holiday we've had, anywhere and we're already planning our next trip back in 12 months time.

This resort is somewhat isolated with a 15minute walk to the nearest bus service. Most residents have to rely on taxi's to get to their destinations. The resort is a large open complex of approximately 98 apartments most of which face the beach. The staff are generally calm and friendly, the food cannot be faulted and for those on an all-inclusive accommodation basis there is more than plenty to fulfil the most gluttonous needs. The rooms though are a little tired and ours lacked a convenient desk and chair. Some cupboard doors were stiff and jammed but the bed was large and comfortable. With coffee and tea facilities and a safety deposit box in each room there was little to request and the cleaning staff were quick and efficient at servicing the rooms. An on site gym was a nice feature for those of an active nature which contained fresh looking equipment: this too was frequently serviced and maintained to very acceptable hygienic levels. In the evening there was live music every night, but in some cases the volume was a little too loud for quiet conversation during mealtimes. the resort caters for adults only and with a sharp incline in and out of the sea care must be taken not to be swept off one's feet due strong waves and undercurrents. Overall this was a very pleasant stay but I identified several features that could improve guest experience. Would I return? Possibly but there so many idyllic places in the Caribbean that would compete for my patronage...

Dear Valued Guests, Thank you very much indeed for taking the time to leave us this review. We truly appreciate your feedback and will certainly take your points into consideration. We are always looking for ways to improve our guests experience. The beach chases throughout the year and is not always as steep, however we unfortunately can't do much about this as we support the natural cycle of nature with regards to the beach. It would be our absolute pleasure to welcome you back someday but totally understand that there are many options open for you to explore. Kind regards, All of us at Galley Bay Resort

As my wife and I come to the end of a wonderful week at Galley Bay, I though I’d write down a few words which I hope will persuade anyone thinking of visiting here whom may yet be undecided to book. In a very short summary, it is a fantastic resort!! Don’t hesitate as it has been a truly wonderful holiday for us. We stayed in a premium beachfront suite on the 1st floor. Yes some would say the ground floor is better but we had wonderful views across the bay from our vantage point. If I was to book again however I would probably ask for a suite in a different part of the resort. Our room (86) was at the far end of the resort near Gauguin restaurant which was our go to lunch destination (more of that later) however the beach is at its narrowest and with lots of palm trees about we found limited space for sunbathing, however if you prefer the shade then this may be better for you. Further down the beach it widens and it felt more spacious with other sunbeds and less shade whereas it felt a little cramped with the sunbeds and shades where our suite was. This really does sound negative but it isn’t meant to be this but just may give you the option to try and choose the best location on the beach based on what you’re looking for. The last suites are in the 80s so try and choose the lower numbers if you want more space on the beach. The sunbeds are plentiful and each suite have their own designated beds so you don’t need to worry about not getting a bed. There are also plenty of beds around the pool. Restaurants were good with a good choice of food which changed daily. Breakfast, lunch and dinner were from a menu so no buffet style at all which I preferred (no lining up waiting for the dreaded slow toaster in the mornings with 20 other slices of bread dropping down onto your barely toasted bread that has to go back in again to then come out burnt!!) Seagrape served breakfast, lunch and dinner, Ismay was more formal and was dinner only. Gauguin restaurant was our favourite and was in a very peaceful setting and served lunch and dinner. The spa was amazing and we had a couples massage in a wonderful setting by the lagoon. The only thing of importance I wanted to mention was that the best thing about the resort and is what made our stay so magical and is the main reason why we will most definitely come back are the staff. They are brilliant, every member of staff would say hi when we saw them. The gardeners, cleaners, bar staff, servers…..the list goes on. They really did make our holiday and I couldn’t list the names as there were too many to mention. I applaud you all and the management for making sure this resort is like a big happy family. We will be sad to leave tomorrow but know that we will return to this wonderful resort.

We had been recommended this hotel by 4 different people so we felt we should book a holiday here. The location was outstanding and epitomised the carribean dream. The hotel was nice, a bit sparse in places with only a few tables at the bar and a large expanse of decking by the beach that could easily have been dressed a bit better (parasols/ tables / chairs) just looked a bit bare. Food was nice but a bit hit and miss some days. The staff were great (some a bit off hand but not rude) and were mainly attentive. We spent most of our time on the beach but disappointingly were never offered drinks. We spoke to guest relations and they claimed they offered this service but we saw one guy once in the 10 days we stayed. A hotel of this calibre / cost should be looking at the finer details to ensure their guests feel valued. Having said that we were invited to a dinner at Ismays as we had stayed at their sister hotel on Palm Island and this was a thank you for being a repeat customers. This was a lovely touch and we thoroughly enjoyed it. We had a lovely trip and can see why people recommended it to us but we felt something was lacking.

Loved it! Room was exceptional, service was awesome and the food was very good and presented well. Beaches were very clean and beautiful. Scuba, sailing, snorkeling and hanging on the beach was epic! Definitely Galley Bay is a must destination if your looking for a proper tropical experience! There was however a couple of areas where this resort needs immediate attention. One was the bar selection and the lack of experience by the bar tenders not knowing how to make the most simple run of the mill cocktails. I had a couple of good ones but most were very substandard. The bartenders would constantly bring you a different cocktail than ordered instead of admitting they have no idea what they are doing. Mai Tai’s with no dark rum floater or fruit garnish of any kind, White Russians with no milk or cream, watered down banana daiquiri’s with no banana and most tropical drinks with zero fruit garnish. Fake corn syrup filled flavored mixers when it should be real fruit mixers. Most liquors were bottom shelf no name brands and only some were standard name brands. Bar selection was less than minimal. A mixologist is in desperate need at this resort and proper training by the mixologist to school the rest. They also need to completely revamp their bar selections if they want a rating to match the room and resort accommodations. Another area is the “attitude” of some of the staff specifically the staff at the restaurants and bars. Most were awesome but some were less than friendly to say the least and didn’t respond to constant respectful greetings and gratitudes. When you greet them in a kind and friendly fashion you would expect one in return. The vast majority did reciprocate but a small few did not. Those few need to be reminded that without a smile and friendly interaction a four or a five star dish can be inedible……..

We stayed at Galley Bay, in a deluxe oceanfront room from late March until early April. I loved that every 2 chairs and palapa had a plaque with our room number on it. No need to get up at dawn to secure a seat. Also, plenty of seats in the bar and around the pool. The room and bathroom has been updated since last year. Love the HUGE new shower. The mini bar was filled daily with water, beer and soda. The room was cleaned daily with a great attention to detail and was always shining and fresh smelling. The staff is welcoming with great smiles and a good morning. We loved the ladies at the small grill near the pool, food was always tasty and the menu changed every day. Food was absolutely wonderful, and it was a pleasure to talk to the chef to tell him so. Don't miss the Thursday lunch bar-b-que. A huge variety of sides and a whole suckling pig. The desserts were great. Ismay's was well worth the extra charge. Service and food were amazing.. My favorite was Gaugin. You need reservations for 1 of 2 seating's but no upcharge. Each table was in its own Palapa. Very romantic and the service and food were wonderful An extra thank you to the lady at the gift shop. I went in looking for a jar of instant coffee because we only had an espresso machine in our room. She said I'll take care of that, made 1 phone call and we had a Mr. Coffee machine in our room that afternoon. Everyone there goes above and beyond to make your stay wonderful. We'll be back next year.

I have one but Tripadvisor will not allow replies that include an email address. However, if you go to their website its definitely on there. It starts with "Reservations@".

There are plenty of trips available to book that pick you up from the hotel if you want to get out and about and discover Antigua.
These can be booked through guest services or your holiday rep.
You can have a nice walk on the beach and through the gardens etc.
The hotel is secluded
There are more places to choose from in the Five Islands Village area.
