Nestled in a picturesque beachfront location, the Royalton Antigua receives mixed feedback from guests. While the beautiful beach and variety of activities are often praised, some travelers find the hotel's location a bit remote. Opinions on value are varied, with complaints about service quality, food, and costs offsetting notes of reasonable pricing. Room cleanliness and amenities frequently disappoint guests. The service garners both accolades for attentiveness and criticism for inefficiency. The atmosphere is generally lively, though not always peaceful, and while the hotel's cleanliness is acknowledged, inconsistencies are noted.

Arrived at the Royalton 6th October, and was pleasantly surprised with the transfer to the hotel and checking in process. It smooth without any stress.
Our room was really nice modern and we had no complaints , we also had a back of the hotel view which was a service road for staff facing a high hill with a lot of vegetation, this might put some people off, but we were fine with it. Room was cleaned and fridge stocked up everyday any request for any extra drinks or towels was supplied to us within 10 minutes.
During the day we spent most of our time at the beach. The beach got to be one of the best beaches I've used, no issues with sun loungers availability you could get to the beach anytime of day and still have a sun loungers, no need for people to get there at 6am. The pools were OK but the water was really warm and the sun loungers seemed to be in the way and bunched to close to each other. The swim up bar was hard to get served unless you tipped, however you can get served from the beach by the waitress much easier and I didn't mind tipping for this service.
We went on 2 trips during our 12 days. The both trips we booked at the TUI desk. Island safari tour which was great and lasted over 6 hours. And Shirley heights tour which Ok'ish a bit busy with no where to sit for 4 hours was the issue. We also booked the cabana for my partners birthday for $100 each really worth the money we had a great relaxing day. However the beach is a little walk from the hotel and made it a chore sometimes when you want to go to lunch, you can go to a restaurant at the beach where the food was good, but sometimes you want a change and had to walk back up to go to buffet or Score restaurant and walk back to beach (the score restaurant lunch meals are the best)
Night time entertainment wasn't the best. It could be the time of year but it wasn't very busy, most nights we were in bed for 10.
The à la cart restaurants we had mixed reviews we went to the steak house 3 times the Italian 3 times and the Caribbean twice and had a mixture of really good meals and ok meals my favourite was the Caribbean. The buffet was brilliant used it every day for breakfast and a couple of times at night. It's really important that you book your restaurants on the app to avoid disappointment.
Finally the staff were great polite and wouldn't say anything bad about them other than the pool side bar service was rubbish and really needs to be improved. Our time here was great relaxing perfect just what we were looking for. It could be the time when the hotel wasn't too busy what made it special however it was special and a break we would recommend to friends and family the experience will stop in our minds for many years.

This was my second time visiting Antigua but my first at the Royalton Antigua. Overall we had a fantastic experience with Royalton. The resort itself is in a beautiful location, with bays on each side of the resort. On one side is a calm bay fed by a small inlet from the ocean. This side doesn’t have a beach, however can be viewed from the Diamond Club lounge which we visited on a daily basis. The other bay is more open to the ocean and has a long beautiful beach. The water was great - slightly cool and with a sandy, primarily rock free bottom. As far as the accommodations, we had a Diamond Club room that was large, comfortable and in the typical style of Royalton, furnished modestly but in a modern tasteful style. We had one issue with our room - it was a connecting room to the room next to us, and we found the noise isolation due to this connecting door was not great. We could hear the people in the next room, both their conversations and their music as if they were in our room. We asked the Diamond Club for another room, which they were able to accommodate two days into our trip (reasonable to me). After that move we had no further issues with noise. For the week we had access to the butlers Khem and Leon. Both guys provided fantastic service and were very friendly and thoughtful. Can’t say enough nice things about both of them. Top notch service! They helped us with restaurant reservations, our room issue, excursions, etc. I also want to give a shoutout to both Scott and Shannan at the resort. Scott provided us with a detailed guided tour of Fort Barrington which is located within the property and offered to take plenty of photos of us at the fort. I highly recommend visiting the fort not only for the historical interest, but also for the fantastic 360 degree view it provides. Shannan was the personal trainer in the gym who whipped us into shape several days with the TRX class. He kicked our butts with a smile! Beyond the great service, I also have to mention the food and drink, obviously key to any all inclusive. Royalton has done a great job here was well. We thoroughly enjoyed both the Hunter steakhouse as well as Grazie, the Italian restaurant. Food quality was always great and very flavourful. Marche (the buffet restaurant) was also quite good, with a lot of selection and the theme was changed up daily. As far as drinks, the cocktails were very well mixed and enjoyed, as well as local beer. Even the standard wines available were quite good and generously poured. All in all it was a great experience, made better by a great staff. There’s a lot to like at Royalton Antigua!

This was our first time in Antigua. I was there to celebrate my birthday with family and friends. We chose the diamond club rooms for our accommodations.
Upon checking in, we were greeted by one of the two butlers assigned to our rooms. Our butlers, Sharlene and Maxwell, went above and beyond to help make our experience memorable. I arrived a few days before my guest, so Sharlene did everything to ensure my guest rooms were located near me, set up, and that their arrivals went smoothly. Maxwell went out of his way to decorate my room on my birthday, made us charcuterie boards and drinks, and brought them to the pool outside our rooms for the ad hoc pool party. I chose the culinary experience (incredible experience, and compliments to the chef for the flavorful food. I recommend trying it for anyone celebrating or wanting to have a great experience) for my birthday dinner. Maxwell also helped decorate for the dinner. We dubbed our butlers (Sharlene and Maxwell) "Butlers of the Year." They were attentive and were there to help with any requests or questions, including recommending where to go outside the resort and helping us with travel arrangements.

The resort experience was overall relaxing. We were told our stay was during their off-season. I recommend eating early for dinner, as they ran out of food choices after a certain time. Also, there is nowhere to eat except for room service after 10 p.m. The resort stops with no food or entertainment after 10 p.m. The only place open until 2 a.m. is the sports bar for drinks. The poolside room was worth the cost; we had something to do after 10 p.m.

We did try the Spa hydrogen services. Each group had a different experience. Some people were told about the sauna, steam room, and chromotherapy; others were not. My group could use most of the services, but the steam room needed to be cleaned, and the men said their steam room and sauna were out of order. Only one chromotherapy stall out of three was operational during our spa visit.

We were told there was only one ATM available, and it was out of order while we were there. However, we could get an advance on our card from the front desk or the Diamond Club at a 10% surcharge. The funds were only in Eastern Caribbean Dollars, and the resort only used U.S. dollars. So, if you did get the funds, you could only use them outside the resort.

Antigua is beautiful and the beach and snorkeling at Royalton is beautiful. However... we arrived 3 hours late due to a delayed flight and were told our room still was not ready for check-in. The housekeeping is poor - the rooms are not cleaned on a daily basis and we continually had to ask for towels. Sometimes they would take all the towels and not replace them.
Getting a lounger on the beach is chaotic - it says that lounger reservation is not permitted but you get to the beach and there are towels with random sliders etc on them which people have used to reserve sun loungers. The staff should really remove these so that there is no conflict between guests.
Most of the staff really aren't very welcoming unfortunately - it really does feel like the staff are not happy and I understand the staff went on strike a couple of weeks ago. I'm afraid as a guest you are made to feel as though you are an inconvenience.
Booking restaurants is very difficult and the restaurants really aren't great - definitely not 5 star.
If you can't get into a specialty restaurant - you go to the buffet. You have to queue to get a table and if you ask to sit outside there's often a lot of eye-rolling and we were told on a number of occasions that we would have to wait and were made to feel quite awkward.
The location is lovely but the hotel feels pretty tired and there is clearly an unresolved issue between staff and management and this is impacting negatively on customers.
The evening entertainment was pretty lacklustre and the whole place feels a bit soulless.
In summary this is definitely not a 5 star resort and we wouldn't return unless things dramatically improved. Worrying times for the Royalton Five Islands.

Airport transfer (Sun Tours) We scheduled private round trip transfers. When we found the agent at the airport she directed us to wait in a designated area. 15 minutes later a driver that I had been watching talking with other people walked up and said he was our driver and we left. Trip home with Sun tours was fine other than they said they could only provide us with a shared ride.

Check-in process- Worst experience I have ever had at a Marriot property. For 2&½ hours they kept saying 30 more minutes and citing various delay tactics. We had arrived early and once normal check in time came they magically checked us in. I would had preferred just being upfront when we asked for an early check in.

Property- Beautiful, clean, and very well maintained. The pool overlooks the beach and has amazing views. The beach is soft, and clean with amazing water.

Rooms- We had access to a few rooms because we traveled with a large group of friends for a wedding. Our room was water-facing and was absolutely perfect. The air conditioning for the room was outstanding. We went to our friends who had a jungle facing room and it was a great room also. We went and had drinks with friends who had the overwater bungalow and the bungalow was absolutely breathtaking. The price point is insanely high especially. While the bungalow was really clean looking we did see a few extremely large cockroaches walking around.

Food- Mediocre at best but we didn't go hungry. Steakhouse: My steak was served cooked properly, but lukewarm at best and my sides were cold and lacking flavor. Servers were very friendly and attentive.

Bar service- This is management's biggest failure. We encountered numerous events of running out of the majority of alcohol, and even water too! Grossly understaffed at the pool bar where they had 3 bartenders that were expected to serve the entire beach and pool customers. The quality of alcohol served would be considered bottom shelf and hard to consume due to its harshness. In the pub “Scores” they have tons of top-shelf liquors on display but then they inform you it's only for display and they are filled with water. Bar service was the greatest disappointment.

Staff- Super friendly and made us feel so welcome. The general staff (excluding bar staff) were the best part of the stay.

Guests- We met with many guests who weren't part of our group and everyone was friendly.

Diamond Club- Complete waste of money. Everyone in our party with butler service agreed that it provided no elevated service or experience. It actually detracted because trying to have the butlers actually help never lead to a positive improvement.

On arrival we was greeted with refreshments and taken to reception to book in. We had everything explained to us and fitted with room key bracelet (if lost there is a 100$ replacement charge) paid the holding deposit and local taxes of 100$ each. We were taking to our room and upon entry everything was clean and well equipped with sofa, dressing table, safe, fridge, shes, robes etc. NO KETTLE just a coffee machine, tea bags with powered milk.

Buffett and restaurant
The main buffet is an epic letdown. Food choice was utterly rubbish, no choice no taste and about Luke warm. After a few days I was dreading meal times. Morning there was meat and fish stews!!! Boiled Bananas and items I wouldn’t class as a breakfast or able describe but other cultures might well disagree. Few yogurts pots and cheese and croissants, rolls and fruit. As I’m from England this is for English review. There was the usual omelette station. Burger station with some sort of white looking meat. Again of an evening was pizzas station every night and stews and yet curries again which I prefer to eat a meal and not have to pick meat from bones for a few morsels of meat. No Themed meal nights a real missed opportunity. The hotel has a few pre-book restaurants, we did the Caribbean and hunters steak house. The steak house was by far the best as the Caribbean restaurant was a bit of let down and we expected something more wow.

Entertainment
Again massive let down, no enough seating and if your at the back you can’t see anything, a JD played music over the staff doing some sort of entertaining, for a hour, no one from outside brought in to lay on a show. There is only 2 places for entertainment 50 seats for 100’s or guests by reception or on the beach.

Grounds.
Coffee shop to relax and 1 bar at the reception area with entertainment stage and cover, and one on the beach with swim up. (same as 2 shops selling gifts, clothing etc) The pool was colder than the sea. Where it takes your breath away. Free Kayak and jet ski’s at 400$ for 2 hours about 120£ at time of exchange rate. Small kids pool with slide (didn’t see anyone using in it) table football and basket ball machine with a chess set with black/white tiles laid on the grass.

Overall I loved the location, beach area. loved the room but entertainment and food was the biggest let down. I have been to cheaper hotels and been blown away by the entertainment and food choice and would I honestly rather had return to them for the money we paid 4K for 10 days I feel it was not value for money. Overall I would rate it as as high as 4* choose wisely before booking if you want a boring nothing to do you’ll be ok. But I wouldn’t be coming back to this hotel or chain again. I’m going back to turkey sensatori in 2025 !

The Royalton at Antigua is an excellent place to spend some relaxed getaway time. Its location, a relative short drive (20/30 mins) from the airport via the capital St.Johns, makes transit relatively short & easy. The hotel lies nestled between a horseshoe bay of fine white sand & clear sea, a small inland lagoon & hills of lush tropical forest making it an idyllic location. The hotel estate is built along a ribbon of land running up yo the beach.
The hotel is smaller than the St.Lucia Royalton we have previously visited twice, but still offers a lot of the same services that we are available at its larger sister.
The facility is well maintained, the cleaners & gardeners work constantly to keep everything in excellent condition.
The rooms are of a good size, equipped to a very good standard and looked after by the always busy housekeeping team. This all leads to a very comfortable stay. The smaller hotel didn't offer all the restaurant options of a St.Lucia, but we did enjoy the Hunters Steak & Grazie Italian Option, the Grande Marche offered much choice and was good for Breakfast, Lunch & an informal Dinner. The beach restaurant Nibbles offered a very enjoyable lunch alternative. So, all in all, it is a good choice at a high standard. So why not a 5 Star rating for a very good facility, staffed by hard working, helpful & happy team in an idyllic location ? For me the issue arises with the size versus services offered. As I stated its not as large as the St.Lucia estate. It still pushes the Diamond Club, the poolside cabanas, the drinks & cigar packages. They are not cheap & a bit of a significant bolt on to a 10 to 14 day holiday from the UK. However, they are devoured by the weekenders, often large parties . In itself, this is not wrong & clearly makes money for a hotel that still has memories of a covid shaped financial black hole. It does lead to difficulties in that having paid for the packages, the customer has a sense of financially driven entitlement, leading to some very rude customers to the excellent staff & fellow holiday makers particularly around the pools at the cabanas & swim up bars. Also, the hotel has to ensure the packages are supported in the restaurants by reserving empty tables for late Club bookings, leaving the rest of us for late tables or unavailable restaurants. We didn't pay for Diamond Club, but we did pay thousands for an 11-day visit, not an ideal service. The local concierge did assist with a couple of situations.
Not sure or if the Royalton would want to address this as it is a profit maker. However it is a heads up to the UK traveller's. Thanks to all the Royalton for a very good holiday.

The resort is set in a beautiful location with an amazing beach, but unfortunately, the overall experience was disappointing due to delays and numerous hassles. I booked a Diamond Club swim-out room with butler service while attending a wedding, expecting a high standard of service similar to other resorts like Sandals. However, the butler service here was lackluster. In my previous experiences, butlers have been so attentive that I often had to request less assistance. Here, I struggled to get even basic requests fulfilled. When I asked for help with a reservation, the butler took hours to respond and repeatedly questioned why I couldn’t use the website instead.

Another concerning issue was the lack of transparency among the staff. Initially, I tried to modify my reservation but was told by one employee that it was impossible. She even sent a cropped statement in an email to back up her claim, though I had other correspondence proving otherwise. My contract only restricted cancellations within 14 days; it said nothing about modifications being prohibited. Ironically, I received an email from the resort titled "Reservation Modification" just before my request when they changed my room. Yet when I tried to adjust my reservation afterward, I was again told it was impossible. Anytime I proved their statements wrong, they would simply stop responding, and calling was no better, as the response was either dismissive or unhelpful.

The room itself was not up to standard either. It was dirty, and each time I used the toilet or showered, water leaked through the grout, causing puddles throughout the bathroom. I tried ordering room service 3 times. All 3 times I ordered very basic things. My average wait time was about 2 hours. The staff would not confirm the requests over the phone like their policy states. When the order finally would get confirmed they would tell you they were out of most things. One woman told me it would be a bit are you sure you even want to continue with this order? The butler was rarely available, and I ultimately had to carry my own bags at the end of my stay. Butler services is also only available during scheduled hours which they do not tell you up front. 3 of the nights there was only 1 butler working so during the hours where I would have actually liked something I might as well have not even purchased the service.

Throughout the trip, we encountered issues with basic availability. Whether it was mint for a mojito or menu items at dinner, they frequently ran out of essentials. My pregnant wife struggled to get non-alcoholic drinks that weren’t pre-made, and even water was difficult to obtain during our last two days. It wasn’t until the end of our stay that the butler managed to find a few small bottles. We later learned that staff had walked out and gone on strike on our final day.

The highlight of our stay was the wedding we attended, which was beautiful, and spending time with friends. Had I booked this trip as just a getaway with my wife I would have been very pissed! Given the overall experience, I would not recommend this resort.

This place should come with a health warning !

When we arrived out of one of just 2 lifts in the hotel on the 3rd floor the stench of damp was very strong ! when we got into our room down the corridor it was slightly better so we opened the sliding door and did not use the Ac as this probably have spread the smell more. We later spotted the source of the smell, large patches of black mould around an air vent in the corridor, something that had clearly been there for some time and not dealt with by the management, putting guests heath at risk. ( have since seen other earlier reviews also mentioning the mould so it seems to an ongoing issue as the hotel is 25 year + old just with a recent makeover)

We then when down to the lovely beach area which is in a great setting, with a shallow shelf into the sea, I went to get some drinks from the pool bar only to spot guests standing smoking in the pool, discard their ash into the water, where children just a few meters away were playing with floats and noodles in the same water! The pool bar staff seemed to think nothing of this and a carried on service them whilst the smoked in the pool water, needless to say its not a pool we used.

We then went to dinner in a Caribbean restaurant, our server Adrien was really helpful finding dishes that my wife could as has she has a gluten allergy, that worked well for the starter and main but when it came the desert they had nothing available that was gluten free! I asked the manager how it was possible for the chief to put together a menu without taking into account guests who had allergies, but she did not have any answer but said she would take it up with him ‘ in my own language ‘ ! Other restaurants on the same complex seem to manage this Ok.

She agreed that we could move to the buffet restaurant instead for our final course. When we got there we were confronted with a sign saying ‘ assorted gluten desserts’ with 'gluten free' in very small print, the complete opposite of what we were looking for, after talking to 3 different members of staff ,who seemed to have little understanding of allergies, they finally confirmed they were mislabelled!, not something you want to here when your dealing with allergies ! another guest with the same issue said we could share her Epipen if they had got it wrong !

So unless your prepared to tolerate these issues and risk your health, we suggest you book another location that take guests health more seriously !

This is a beautiful resort to visit. Overall staff are very friendly and helpful. We had the pleasure of having Kai and Brandon as our Butler team and we couldn’t have asked for better. Small improvements could be made on food and drinks. Housekeeping was very good My room was cleaned daily and mini bar was always stocked with plenty of bottled water, beer, soft drinks and juices. All common areas were very clean and well kept. Some small maintenance details for improvement would be locks on bathroom doors in multiple locations but especially at Diamond club pool. Cocktails at pool area could include some less sweet options. Vibe team was fun and the pool area was always lively with music and various activities. Restaurants had a lot of choice but did run out of things on menu. We really missed Mango as a choice. As a group we did get later restaurant times as we were told that was the only option from restaurant managers. We often missed hotel entertainment due to our dinner times. Our excursion tours were easy and well managed from the butler staff. We had great times touring the island and always felt safe in anything we did. Shirley heights on Sunday was definitely a highlight.
Overall a great experience at the Royalton and would encourage the resort to continue building on and striving toward excellence.
