My friend and I had been looking for hotels for quite some time after deciding Prague was the destination for us and after reading many of the reviews on here and elsewhere on the net we settled on the Hotel Popelka. Upon driving up to the Hotel Popelka in the shared shuttle my first impressions were 'please say this isn't us'. However, on approaching the hotel which is set back from the main street and in its own gated courtyard my friend and I were pleasantly surprised. The check in was easy and we were given numerous maps & excursion leaflets which if we had been given more time in Prague we probably would have gone on.
Rooms
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The rooms were modern, spacious and most importantly clean. However the safety deposit box in the room caused us some difficulties. The lock didn't work and after going down to reception numerous times we decided to give up and look after our belongings ourselves during our short stay. I'm sure if you could wade through the language barrier you could get it to work and this wouldn't be an issue however I am far too impatient and didn't want to spend time faffing around when there was exploring to be done! Beds were OK to sleep on and a little hard but I have defiantly slept on worse. The only downside to the rooms was the fact there was a kettle & cups provided but no tea or coffee. Not a major downside but certainly would have been the icing on the cake if they were provided. There are around 3 local corner shops where these could have been bought and other items such as toiletries near the tram stop all for a low cost.
Breakfast
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
As for the breakfast it was served 7:30-10:00 & offered cheeses, hams, salami, bread, a good choice of cereals, sausages, bacon, boiled eggs, scrambled eggs, fried eggs, yogurt and honey and a sweet choice each day for afterwards. Although there wasn't a large choice of hot food options there was defiantly enough to make up for it & there was a broth option however the days we stayed the Pea Broth and Beef Broth didn't appeal to either of us, especially for breakfast. I must make a special mention here for coeliac sufferers. My father has gluten intolerance and although he wasn't with me on this trip, I always keep an eye out for what he could have eaten. The boiled & scrambles eggs, ham and cheeses would have been the best bet to avoid cross contamination from gluten and although simple, would quite easily have sufficed for a gluten free breakfast.

Trams
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The walk to the tram stop took around 3-5minutes and there is a flat or staired way to the stop. I would recommend at night or at dusk to take the staired option to avoid walking down a pretty run down the side street which had no lighting. We asked reception for tram details and was told to purchase a ticket from the yellow machine at the nearest stops machine. We were never given the option to purchase a ticket from reception like many people have put so had to chance the machine... Only once did the machine work & on day 2 after trying to buy a day ticket for 110kc we decided to walk into Prague by foot only seeing 1 more machine the whole way. The walk into Prague was not quick, but took around 40 minutes by leisurely strolling. I would strongly recommend at least once walking into Prague. After getting past the nearby Anděl which is around 2 stops from the nearest tram stop to the hotel, the walk is relatively flat and we saw more of Prague by walking than on the tram overall. The rest of the holiday admittedly we tram jumped due to the stupid machines however despite the receptionist stressing the importance of stamping the ticket not once did we see any locals do this or purchase any tickets. NB; We always made sure we had the correct change in case we got checked and had to buy a ticket on board.
Food
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Apart from breakfast we didn’t eat in the hotel & decided to venture into Prague each evening for dinner. The food was always of a very high quality for a very little price. We always drank bottled water and we did eat in varied restaurants and not once did we get sick at all. All the restaurants appeared clean and tidy and there are defiantly many places in England which could take a leaf out of their book.

The beer was amazing! To say I am a firm drinker of Crabbies and Guiness I must say Prague has converted me to a lager drinker. More times than not a pint cost 80kc with soft drinks being a lot more in comparison.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Overall Prague was a really good European City Break for my friend and I and we managed to get cheap flights & spent very little on our travels including souvenir shopping. I would defiantly recommend the Hotel Popelka to anyone and if I visit Prague again I will book there. The distance from Prague should be seen as a chance to get away from the beaten track and explore Prague away from a guide book. One side note should be that if you find walking difficult or need a wheelchair Prague is perhaps not the best place for you to is it. The streets can be very steep in the Lesser Quarter and the streets are uneven and cobbled nearly everywhere. When it rained the streets got extremely slippery even with good walking shoes on.

We thoroughly enjoyed a mini break at the Popelka . It was exceptionally clean and comfortable and really does deserve it's four star rating . The bedrooms are spacious , meticiously clean and the beds were very , very comfortable . The range of breakfast fare was quite superb and very filling ! the staff were very friendly and helpful . Although a little way out of the city the number 19 and 39 tram offers frequent and speedy connections to all the main tourist attractions . Would we consider staying at this hotel again - most certainly YES !

I have just checked out of this hotel after a lovely 4 day in prague. On check in I was greeted by the reception staff who spoke very good English as my czech is very poor. Was given a map of the city and an information handout on the hotel, which included a map to the nearest tram stop. My room 104 was very large with a firm but comfortable double bed. great shower pressure in the bathroom. Breakfast selection is great.
Hotel is 3-5 minute walk from nearest tram stop and very easy to connect to metro.
I would love to stay here again when back in prague.

We arrived quite late in the evening on the 4th December. The check in went smoothly and we found a good sized room with en-suite shower room, unfortunately the heated towel rail didn't work, (even after reporting it). The receptionist gave us directions to a restaurant but we were too late and had to walk further into Andel. There is a very good restaurant called Zlaty Klas that serves food until midnight.
The bed was clean, quite firm but comfortable, the pillows were twice the width that we are used to. It's a shame that tea and coffee making facilities were not in the room, as it is very much in the tourist/ business area of Prague.
Breakfast was mainly continental but with fried and scrambled eggs supposedly kept hot in a food warmer that was not switched on, during any of the three mornings until I turned it on! Not nice or healthy. Be aware that the items in the mini bar are fairly dear to buy, the tap water is fine to drink, so we just filled our bottles up each day before we went out to the many Christmas markets.
Also be aware that you must go to the small shops by the tram track to buy your daily tickets and don't forget to punch them in the ticket machine on board to activate them, these can be used throughout the day on the trams, buses and the metro. Three day tickets are also available. It would be more helpful if the hotel sold them.

Very friendly hotel, just 5-10 min walk from tram stop which has excellent service to most parts of town and many other parts of the city. Staff were very helpful. There was plenty of food for breakfast, but the hot food could have been hotter. Note that the hotel is on a hill which can be slippy in icy conditions, so wear the right footwear and gear for the conditions. Highly recommended.

Stayed in the hotel for 3 nights during one weekend in July. Hotel has a free secure parking which was one of our priorities since we came with a car. The location of the hotel is quite good as well since it seemed very peaceful (it is located very close to the National Security Authority headquarters so the whole location should be quite safe). The only little drawback might be a little walk up the small hill (but not very steep) to get in to the hotel. First day we decided to explore hotel's surrounding a little bit and were very positively pleased with a lot of trees and greenery.
During our stay Prague was undergoing an extensive tram-line remodeling and repairing in this area so this was a big minus since we had to change buses and trams more often to get to and from the hotel. But when trams are working it only takes few minutes to get to the nearest metro station.
The service in the hotel was very professional as well. All our questions were always answered. The room we got was quite spacious, clean and also quite modern. Bathroom was nice as well. We didn't have wifi in the room but there was a cable so if you take a notebook there should be no problem with internet. There is a safety box in the room but you have to ask for a key at the reception (they said there was a little fee for using a safety box but when we were checking out they didn't ask for any extra money for using it).
The thing I personally didn't like very much was breakfast. You have some variety but there were very few things I liked and on our last day we wanted to try an omelet and even though we came more than 40 minutes before the end of breakfast there was none left. But apart from that we had a very positive impression from the hotel and would definitely recommend it if you are looking for something nice for a reasonable price.

Group of us traveled to Prague recently and booked this hotel for the price. Wasn't expecting too much but it was just lovely. My partner and I had a great room lots of space, very clean and airy. It is a bit out of town but very good transport to city centre. Basic so perfect if you just want a nice clean comfortable bed to sleep in, no frills. Suited us as we were busy all day and only came back to hotel at end of the day. Bit far out if you like to come and go from your hotel though. Overall very pleasant.

Great room, large with a view over Prague, friendly and helpful staff. Very clean and a great breakfast, just can say only good things about this hotel. It is situated 2 miles from the centre, however with the cheap tram service nearby that was no problem to us, infact it gave us a quiet retreat at night and for a break in the day.
