Domus Balthasar is a baroque building with medieval foundation and 21st century design, situated on the Royal Route, in the heart of the oldest and most romantic part of Prague - Lesser Quarter (Mala Strana), few steps from Charles Bridge, close to Old Town and Prague Castle. Domus Balthasar is nearly of all most popular sights within easy reach on foot or by tram. Although is situated in the centre, also in a neighborbood of nicest parks. It is the ideal place for a holiday as well as for an enjoyable business trip. The building's history goes back to the 14th century, though the fittings are either modern or timeless. We do our best to respect history while at the same time respecting the current needs and tastes of our guests. Hotel has 8 rooms. Please notice our historic house uniquely located within an UNESCO listed World Heritage Site does not have an elevator. Due to a lower ceiling Attic double rooms are not recommended for people taller than 1,80 m/6 feet.

Staying at the Domus Bathazar made our stay in Prague even more enjoyable than we expected it would be. This is a lovely little boutique hotel (dating back to the 16th century) with just 8 rooms. There is no lift in this hotel but unless you have mobility issues this shouldn't be a problem at all.

We were in a beautiful deluxe double room with a view of the Charles Bridge. The room had 5 huge windows which I loved, a bed that was bigger than a double, a reasonably priced mini bar, and robes in the bathroom.

All staff we spoke with are a credit to this hotel, so friendly and helpful. Pavel gave us a map when we arrived and helped us with all our queries about Prague. On our last day we had to check out at 11am but our flight wasn't until 9pm. Unfortunately on this day the rain was relentless, but staff were happy to mind our luggage for the day and lend us a big umbrella to take out with us. Not only that, they let us have a room for a couple of hours when we came back so we could change into dry clothes etc. before our flight. It is these kind little touches that make such a difference.

Also have to mention Milan, the driver who picked us up from the airport and took us back, which the hotel immediately arranged for us on request for 24 euros each way. Milan is also a credit to the hotel and was friendly and knowledgeable about the area.

Thanks to all at Domus Balthazar, I wouldn't hesitate to stay here again should I visit Prague a second time!.

While I am an avid reader of TripAdvisor, this is my first review. The Domus Balthasar is in the top 5 hotels I have ever stayed in. If you want a lobby, go somewhere else, because there is only a small check in desk. The rooms although are enourmous with 16' ceilings. And the hotel is literally 50 feet from the Charles Bridge. I'm not sure waht our room number was, but ask for the corner room on the second floor, overlooking the street, right above the entrance. I can't imagine a better room in the hotel. There is no restaurant, but hotel guests get a free continental breakfast at the cafe right next door. I can't say enough about this incredible little hotel, my wife and I will enjoy the memories forever.

For the money and location, I would not stay anywhere else in Prague than this boutique hotel. The rooms are beautiful and large (certainly the deluxe double and the suite which I have seen), the bathrooms fantastic and the service efficient and professional. Breakfast is in a diner which is also open to members of the public, and whilst it can get crowded, the staff are helpful and friendly enough to sort out any problems.

The hotel is a minute's walk away from Charles Bridge - but once inside, you don't get any hint of the crowds and noise outside.

Their sister hotel (the Domus Henrici) is also lovely - although it involves more of a walk uphill past the Castle (but is a few Euros cheaper).

The driver, who seems to operate for both hotels, is a really useful service: he will do trips to and from the airport, and any other driving you need whilst you are there - all much more cheaply and reliably than picking up local taxis.

I have to agree with the other review. This was an excellent find - so close to everything and by Prague standards - affordable. You are literally 50 metres to the Castle side of Charles Bridge -a 15 minute stroll from the astronomical clock, 15 minutes the other way to the Castle - the location can't be beat. You feel you are really in the centre of things yet the rooms yield little or no street noise. There is a free breakfast until 10am in the little cafe that attaches to the hotel but no room service (expected in such a small establishment), however the minibar is very affordable and there are coffee/tea making facilities in the room. This small hotel only has 8 rooms. I would strongly suggest one of the superior doubles (2nd and 3rd floors at the front) - trust me - it's worth the extra cost (and the review below is based on this type of room). There has been a residence on this site for 700 years yet the rooms are all completely renovated and modern on the inside with a large, comfortable king size bed, modern lighting, huge windows with great views, Satellite TV (though as in most of Prague - the only English language channels are BBC World, CNN, CNBC), CD/DVD Player, direct phone number and free internet - oh and the the front desk will even go out and get DVDs for you until midnight. The ceilings are very high - I think 12-14 feet and the room was very large with a separate anteroom for the closet, coatrack and mirror. The bathroom was wonderful. First off - the granite floors were heated as were the towel rails, there was an oversized bath - easily big enough for two, separate shower, fine toiletries, good hairdryer and thick towels/robes. I would highly reccomend this location unless you are a very light sleeper (The hall stairs are wood and can be heard in the room in the early morning but I was fine putting on the fan in the room drowning out the noise) or need an elevator to even get up 1 floor or you need air conditioning (might be the case in July). Staff are friendly, speak perfect English (don't forget your key if you are coming back late at night - the front desk is closed from midnight to 7am) and the car service is affordable and definitely worthwhile. There is also a sister hotel steps away from the castle entrance - Domus Henrici.

You will not do better on location that this hotel, downside is carrying your luggage up the flights of stairs especially if you are on the top floor, but the room was quiet and spacious with contemporary style furnishings that would have suited a more modern property, however we really enjoyed this little find in Prague with the best loaction you can get. breakfast was 5 stars.....Go check it out for yourself.

The hotel is in the centre of Prague, close the the castle and a the end of Charles Bridge (so its just a short walk to the Jewish Quarter and Old Town). Its modern without ruining the charm of the building and has really friendly staff. The room was lovely, really clean and has a views of Charles Bridge. Breakfast is served in a bakery under the building and is excellent. Recommend the hotel without any reservations (although if your going drinking you might want to stay in a different part of Prague - night life is limited).

This hotel is in a perfect location. The rooms are spotlessly clean, modern and tasteful. The staff were very obliging and the complimentary breakfast in the cafe next door was excellent.
A couple of negatives are that there are a lot of stairs(no lift) so would not suit some users. Secondly, no air conditioning, we were on the top floor and the room was exceedingly hot at night. There is a fan but that is noisy as was trying to leave the windows open. I would say this hotel would be perfect for cooler months and I am sure that for the superior quality the above factors may be acceptable.

A Modest facade gives way to the most welcoming small reception area with down to earth, friendly staff.
Ascending the stairs (no lift), the tasteful interior fit-out hinted at what was to become our room.
On opening the double doors onto our vast first floor room, we were welcomed by the most wonderful, spacious accommodation, wonderfully decorated, hi-fi, heated bathroom floor!. Perfect. As for a Room with a View, 50 metres from one of Charles Bridges' towers looming over us through the snow, a week before Christmas couldn't have been planned better.
Definitely will be back soon.
Also must say that the food and hospitality of the Czech's was excellent.

We booked one of the loft rooms after reading the reviews here, and we were not disappointed, at all. It certainly isn't suitable for anyone with mobility problems, but we loved it. It's quiet, clean, warm, tastefully decorated without seeming pretencious, and best of all it is in the exact place we would have chosen. Right on the castle side of the Charles Bridge, with most of the places we wanted to visit a walk away. Breakfast at the Bakeshop was great - you could choose two dishes from a choice of 6 (waffles, eggs, meat & cheese, croissant etc). I saw some guests had moaned about it being disorganised, but I think of it as laid back. It's a lovely coffee shop to have close by - so much better than the usual depressing breakfast buffet.
This was an ideal place for two frazzled parents to spend a few days totally relaxing

I booked this hotel after seeing the rave reviews of it's sister hotel Domus Henrici and I thought that the location of this one was better. the location was fine, at the nice end of the charles bridge, walkable to all major tourists must sees. also the metro is only five minutes away.

I booked the hotel taxi service from the airport as it was highly recommended and the driver was supposed to have great english (which he didn't - maybe they had changed the driver?) - this cost 600 czech crowns - I took public transport back to airport - which was very easy and cost just 20 crowns.

The hotel is a house with the rooms on four floors two each floor. there is no public areas or atmosphere and I never saw any other guests even at breakfast (which was opened to the public - so one or two tourists were there - lured by the sign saying bagel breakfasts at internet cafe- which was odd as there were no bagels or computers in the breakfast room.) Just cereal, a toaster, a couple of yoghurts. they brought you coffee/tea a basket of bread, a plate with a couple of very old looking slices of meat and cheese and offered to cook an omelette.

I had the attic room - lots of beams - good size, non descript furniture, rail for hanging clothes, dvd/CD/TV player (by the way they have 4 dvd's you can borrow from the desk - I saw 21 grams - you will have to guess the middle half an hour as the disk is damaged!). Loads of tv channels if you speak german or french, the only english channels are 2 news ones. The bed was very comfortable. the power in the shower was fab although the sloping walls meant that there was no hook for the shower head and no shower curtain and so was terribly easy to soak the entire room when showering unless very careful. I peeked in one of the other rooms when it was being cleaned and it looked very nice.

when I originally contactly the hotel they quoted me a price and when I booked a couple of hours later - they charged me a bit more - it was only a few euros but I think that they should have honoured their original quote especially as price was one of the factor when decided between a number of option of places to stay.

A good, comfortable place to stay in super location athough not overtly friendly. Howver I wish I had tried the sister hotel after all.

Answer from HiddenPlacesHotels

Hello, We have air conditioners only in the attic rooms where it becomes really hot during summer. All the other rooms have fans and fairly big windows and we believe it is sufficient. It doesn't get too hot most of the days and as the house we are located in has thick walls made of stone, the temperature there is usually very pleasant.
