If you like the feeling and smell of history, this place is perfect for you. Perfect for my taste, only the bed is even too authentic because it squeaked and creaked at every slightest movement, namely it is just as old as the rest of the furniture. Clean, quiet, quiet, the smell of old furniture, the location is perfect, it could it not get better. definitely recommend it.

The apartments are very generously sized, comfortable and clean.
A perfect location to get to both old town and new town Prague as well as public transport access.
The reception staff and staff at booking and checkout were incredibly polite and helpful. Couldn't ask for anything more

My family of two adults and two teens simply loved the Castle Steps. It was everything and more than we expected. We had the Geranium/Hyacinth two bedroom apartment which is very new. Origionally we booked the Silverbirch, but decided to 'upgrade' and were offered this apartment which came at a cheaper rate! Lovely and fresh with big rooms and a communal dining/kitchen area. Light timber floors, white, open space, lots of plants and a few interesting antique furniture pieces. Antoine settled us in, offered advice and answered any questions. Great personal service. There is a roof top terrace which looks towards the park. Had a glas of wineup there, but too much to see and do in Prague to sit around. Its in Nerudova street which is a highlight in itself. A gorgeous street leading up to the castle which was 5 mins away. Heaps of restaurants - Vegetarian no problem. Breakfast a little way up the hill, but for 50 y.o.'s it was also no problem. Breakfast was simple but good, in fact better quality than most of the elaborate breakfasts we had elsewhere on our trip. Juices, the best cereal /meusli I have ever had and nice bread with plenty of fresh whole fruit. Internet (3 computers) was fantastic in the breakfast room and very popular but everyone shared nicely. We were asked daily at breakfast if everything was ok with our accommodation.Beds sooo comfy, as were pillows. Very nice personal service all round. Easy walk down hill to Charles Bridge and downtown is just the other side. All in all a hightlight of our 12 different accommodation venues in Europe on this trip. A great way to start our holiday.

We stayed at the Castle Steps for 2 nights in Aug 07. We were located close to the castle and about a 5-6 min walk from where breakfast was served. We were in the The Rhododendron Suite

The rooms were massive and we shared a bath room with one other room. Everything was nice and clean.

They organised a taxi for us from the airport and met us at their office and then walked us to the room. All very straight forward.

Breakfast was simple but substantial.

I would stay here again if I went back to Prague.

Stayed for three nights in the Maple room, which is on Nerudova. There wasn't a view but the jacuzzi was an absolute bonus. I would recommend staying in one of the apartments on Nerudova as it isn't so much of a walk to the Old Town Square (about 20 minutes) and downhill on the way there but uphill on the way back. If you stay on Uvoz then it's quite a bit of a way up the hill (although you have to make it up there for breakfast).

For the centre of Prague it's great value for money and really quiet too, much preferred to staying somewhere like Wenceslas Square. Breakfast is really basic but having the internet is great, whether it's keeping in touch with the outside world or checking something out about Prague that you were wondering about.

We arrived quite early (11am) and were able to check right into our room without any extra charge (great since we'd been to a wedding the night before and needed a nap!). And if your flight is later you can leave your cases in the office when you check out.

Hi, I usually do not take the time to write reviews, but we really enjoyed our stay at the Castle Steps. We stayed in the Lilac apartment. First of all, it was not perfect, but overall it was the best place we stayed on our entire trip. The down fall for the Lilac Apartment was the fact that the bathroom was down stairs, so was a little inconvient to come home and have to walk more stairs. No big deal, but.... The other down fall was the walk up the hill. It was quit a work out, and of course we tried not to go up and down the hill any more than we had to. The good thing about that is we dropped a few pounds! The best part of the Castle Steps was the oh-so-comfortable beds. They were great. The kitchen and the bathroom was wonderful. It was really nice to have a refrigerator and the location was very handy. We would gladly stay there again, and many times on our trip remarked how nice the Castle Steps had been.

We were very happy here.

I have never stayed in a place quite like this! I am very interested in art, especially from the Nineteenth Century. We found that our room had several pieces of original artwork on the walls and, in addition, the walls outside had colourized etchings showing different scenes from the Czech countryside and towns around the Czech Republic. I was worried that they might get stolen, but apparently this hasn't happened yet.

The person who helped to show us to our rooms was American, which was also a bit of a surprise. This was good, because I don't speak Czech and neither does my husband. The check in took quite a while because of all the forms we had to fill it (I know that this country is famous for its bureaucracy). However it all went smoothly. The American conceirge was extremely friendly and spent quite a bit of time helping us to orientate ourselves.

In the mornings we went up to breakfast. This was in a beautiful space underneath one of the buildings. It was decorated in a rural theme. The bread was delicious. While we were there somebody came to our table to ask us how we were getting on. We needed another pillow, and somebody brought this up to our room half an hour later.

Overall, we enjoyed our stay and are looking forward to coming back. I am interested to see what Prague is like in Winter!

Stayed in October 2006 with spouse and brother- and sister-in-law in a top floor apartment. The trek up the stairs would be a lot for some with heavy baggage, but we managed with no problem. Our apartment had one large living room with a double bed pushed against one wall and a double room with ensuite bath. We are a close family, so no worries about sharing bathroom, but it might not be ideal for those traveling with others who enjoy a lot of privacy. We took the bedroom and the others took the living room bed. My BIL and SIL had to come into our room at night to use the toilet.

The apartment was very spacious, clean, and was well furnished. We enjoyed the views from our windows over the vineyard and town center.

Location - well we really enjoyed it as it was in a lovely area of town extremely close to the palace. The road can be a pain to walk up late night after sharing bottles of wine, but it is worth it for the price, size, and comforts. It is not "in the action" of late night young crowd, but we did not mind the ten minute walk to these places. We chose quiet beauty over central noise.

Staff - wonderful. We were greeted and given our key. On the day we left, they allowed us to keep our room until 6 pm due to a late flight - that is soooo gracious! We did not even ask, they simply inquired about our flight and offered on the spot after hearing it was late.

We will return!

We have just come back from a long weekend at the Castle Steps, staying in the Small Embassy. It was a great place to stay and I would recommend it to anyone. It's in an excellent location, a few minutes from Charles Bridge but in the less touristy side of the river.

The room was great. Yes, it was a little spartan but clean and had everything we needed. The staff were great. They booked us a taxi to and from the airport, which made life really easy, and provided us with everything we needed.

Prague itself was beautiful.

We have just returned from a short break to Prague and stayed at the Castle Steps Hotel/Appartments. The hotel is not suitable for those who are not very mobile (due to the number of steps - as the name suggests) and because it is situated at the top of the hill that leads to the Castle. I would advise to take flat comfortable shoes as most of Prague consists of cobbled streets. The old town is easily reachable, the tram stops at the top and bottom of the hill (although we preferred to walk off all the mulled wine and dumplings).

We stayed in the Spruce and Willow rooms which were clean and neatly decorated. Spruce was very spacious with plenty of privacy between the three sleeping areas. Both rooms had a well equipped kitchen area, a basic but adequate breakfast was available in the morning.

The friendly and approachable hotel staff were easily accessible by phone and the office was situated a little further down the hill. I left my perfume behind and it was sent back to me within a couple of days following just one email.

Prague is a beautiful place to visit with plenty to see and do. I definately advise seeing a church concert which can be booked easily on the door, on the concert day (although be mindful that during the winter the churches are very cold!). The locals were all friendly and spoke very good English.

We found a lovely little restaurant on the hill close to the hotel called Rodinny. This served traditional food and had a lovely atmosphere. All meals on the whole are cheap in comparrison to home, the traditional foods are stew based meals and dumplings. Prices do increase closer to the old town square, where you pay for the view of the famous clock and church of St Nicholas.
