Away with the girls in Budapest. Hotel very large, rooms clean and spacious if a bit tired. Breakfast super and service very good. Spa was a great experience. Room overlooking the river Danube was super. Great position for sight seeing Buda and Pest.

Picture yourself living in an old castle with much history and beauty. Then go down the spiral stairs to dine at an opulent resto that overlooks the Liberty bridge. As you step outside the hotel, you can walk directly to the metro station, or stroll along the famed Danube River. Take your pic. Freedom from stress and want, indeed!

A nice looking & pleasant but tired hotel upon scrutiny. Very helpful desk staff and waiters. Breakfast usual foreign type, nothing out of the ordinary just make sure you get there early or your miss out as last there doesn't get much. Our room on the second floor was at the furthest in could be and not much fun after...

Needs renovation! Although it is very nice to stay in a "vintage" building, the premises need refreshment and renovation. The carpets have been over used, the bathrooms do not shine, the blinds are worn out!

I liked the hotel location near city centre and the river. The building is impressive and has much grandeur. The adjacent classic spa adds to stay. Room was small and stuffy and even smelly. The bed was a single and too small for modern standards. Breakfast good.

We really enjoyed our seven night stay. The hotel might be a little jaded but it still bears the hallmarks of a once great hotel. It has character and atmosphere and in that respect is far superior to the chrome and glass dormitories that now pass for up-market hotels. Our room was small but adequate; the bathroom was clean and...

The stuff is very helpful and the room was nice and the looking from my Balcony was fabulous. Really I recommend everyone to book there and enjoy the view and the sunny weather in Budapest. Also the breakfast was great with a lot of variety.

The hotel has a splendid location. The building is fantastic and the furniture and interior decor puts you 50 years back. You imidiately falls for the hotel. But then you smell the rot from the miskept bathroom, you see the centimeter thick dust along the edges of the carpet and see the water running from below the toilet and out...

The old hotel and age begin to show, especially in the rooms. The breakfast was pretty good, but often it has to wait for food. The location was all good. The staff was polite. In the spa I did not visit myself. Other members of the troupe praised it.

Be prepared for a retro feeling. Old hotel, thus, the rooms are old as well. In some rooms there is an unpleasant smell. My bed was unconfortable. The restaurant is very good, excellent service, excellent food. The spa is simple and OK, but you have to difficultly search for info about it. I appreciated that in the spa you can...

Staying in Gellert Hill

Neighbourhood Profile
Gellert Hill
If you want to treat your camera to some amazing scenery, Gellért Hill is a must on your itinerary. A funicular journey from the Chain Bridge along the hillsides provides a fast connection between Buda and Pest, hoisting visitors to panoramic vistas. Once on top of the hill, you’ll find the Citadel dominate the landscape with its imposing 19th century construction, a site that’s hard to keep your eyes on without being distracted by the phenomenal view over the Danube and the eight bridges crossing. Once on Gellért Hill however, one mustn’t miss the famous Gellért Baths. Budapest is renown for its thermal waters and its baths, and the Gellért Baths are housed in an impressive art nouveau structure. Its interior design, with its many mosaics, recalls the preceding relationships the city has had with healing springs and saunas, traditionally used within this neighborhood since the Ottoman Empire.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Art Nouveau style Danubius Hotel Gellert first opened its doors in 1918, and has long been an iconic Budapest landmark that has even featured in Hollywood films. Its stately building, at the foot of the Gellert hill, also houses the world-famous Gellert Baths, which include an outdoor pool with the original wave-generating device installed in 1927. Over the years, some famous names have stayed at the Gellert – including American presidents and European royalty – and the hotel retains the elegant atmosphere of a bygone age. Guests can enjoy superb cuisine at the Panorama Restaurant or Gellert Brasserie, and take advantage of wellness treatments and medical programmes at the adjacent Gellert Baths. Furthermore, the hotel is the perfect base for exploring, located next to one of Budapest’s most beautiful bridges and a short walk from Pest’s Great Market Hall and shopping streets. ... more   less
