Detailed Reviews
I just came back from a week at Komodo Resort, and already missing it!
The rooms are great, spacious and comfortable and overlooking the white sandy beach and tranquil waters by Sebayur island. The house reef (snorkeling only) is really good (watch out for the in and out currents).
The diving is very well organised with 2 or daily boats (2 dives in the morning and an afternoon or a night dive if one so wishes). Briefings are very detailed and precise by all staff giving them and safety is priority (given the currents in the area). The dives sites are all really good with a mix of wall, slopes, reefs and big pelagics (mantas, sharks, schools of trevallies, jacks, barracudas, too many turtles to count) and some decent macro opportunities. The corals are pretty healthy and colourful and both soft and hard. Dives sites are around 1h boat ride from the resort.
The food is fantastic: plenty of fresh fruit, breakfast has a choice of indonesian and continental options; lunch is mainly indonesian (soups are so good) and buffet style while dinner is a la carte and mainly italian. I mean fresh pasta and parmigiana di melanzane better than what i get in London!
The staff are so good, all of them from the garden maintenance to the dive staff to the bar guys making cocktails at sunset. Antonello made me feel at home, particylarly when my friend left and I spent a couple of days on my own, I felt I was amongst friends.
The wifi is perfect and allowed to keep in touch with my family back home. They have a spa but I didn't use it myself and a small fitness room too.
Some minor points of 'constructive feedback':
-clarity on prices esp for excursion (eg we had a surcharge for half day Komodo trip which had not been communicated upon booking the trip)
- less plastic please. Fruit comes in plastic bags and the room bins have plastic bags, changed every day. perhaps compostable bags would be better?
- different charging points eg USB (or a camera room for photographers) would be great
Overall couldn't recommend this place more and I would love to return one day.

This resort has a very intimate feel with the perfect blend of local Indonesian Dive Masters and European instructors. Guests were predominantly European and some North Americans as well. The vibe was very welcoming and every detail was taken care of by the team. We spent 5 days and by the end we felt so connected to everyone and to the place. It was truly sad to leave!
Diving was the first and foremost reason for the trip and was simply stunning. The dive team took care of all the equipment rinsing and shuttling from gear house to boat. Nitrox was available as well. Tanks were well priced. The boats were the most comfortable dive boats I've ever been on, with a covered sun deck and bean bag chairs that I will be trying to re-create for my patio! The dive team did a great job of creating an itinerary of dives that got us a wide variety of sites and sea live viewing opportunities. Our guide, Akry, was so much fun! He's a relatively new dive master, but he still just lights up when he finds cool things. His enthusiasm is contagious.
Accomodation: The rooms were spacious, authentic indonesian construction, yet had everything we needed or could want, including chaise lounges on the beach in front of each unit. Very quiet. Sitting out on the chaise at night and seeng the milky way and all the unfamiliar southern hemisphere stars was one of the unexpected gems of this resort, as there is so very little light pollution there! More to follow in details...

If you are looking for a perfect mix of great landscape, spectacular house reef, comfort, service, cuisine, excursions, kindness and attention to your needs, this is the right place to be.
Both room and bathroom in the bungalows are spacious, clean and well climatized; cold sodas and water are available for free, beach and reef right in front.
A notation for the restaurant: the cuisine is definitely high-level. Indonesian food is very special and Italian food really Italian; the service is attentive and kind.
Being a snorkeler, I appreciated the competence and attention of the guides; don't miss the night snorkeling at the house reef!

We spent 6 wonderful days at Komodo Resort during our honeymoon in Indonesia, thanks to the hospitality of all the staff, the kindness of Nicolò (Italian manager) and Arjon (diving staff) who supported us in our freediving trips discovering the wonderful backdrops of the Flores islands. The lodges are very clean, the sun beds for exclusive use a few meters from the sea, the whole structure has an excellent wi-fi signal and the food for lunch and dinner is both buffet and à la carte.
They organize a fast boat service (for a fee) or the free transfer available once a day to or from Labuan Bajo.
They didn’t miss anything and they organized a beautiful exclusive dinner for our honeymoon as a gift.
Wonderful sunsets to be enjoyed from the heights of the island with a 15-minute walk or comfortably from the bar area just a few steps from the sea. Amazing house reef and for non-divers there are several tours, we recommend the flying foxes migration at sunset and the day tour to Komodo park. We will be back!

Stayed for 11 days at the end of March in the newly built Private Bamboo Bungalow 1 with incredible view right from your bed. Dived almost every day multiple times, visited almost every dive site in the central Komodo NP. Paradise for divers with healthy beautiful corals, great macro opportunities besides manta rays, white tip/black tip reef sharks, turtles and fish. Great snorkelling right at your doorstep, incredible house reef at both sides of the resort (north and south). Very tasty food with lot of options to choose from and amazing staff in the whole resort.
Very well managed resort with professional, helpful and friendly staff, owned by new owners who were also making sure that everything is running as it should. Great management team who tried to satisfy our every need, special thanks to Britta on who we could rely on all the time regarding our diving. Experienced and super friendly dive masters, especially Jello, Engel and Ray, with who we felt safe even in the currents. Had great time on the boat with briefings on the sundeck and biscuits and tea between the dives. 2 morning dives were always the best, tried also the afternoon dives and the night dives too. Our favourite dive site was Pengah Kecil and Mawan. Equipment for rent was in very good condition and all the dive equipment was kept in your box and always brought on the boat and set up for you. After diving it was taken care of that the wetsuits were hanged and dried. Great organisation of the whole diving experience and a huge THANKS to all the staff.
Food was excellent, either buffet or á la carte with every day's specials, a lot of options to choose from, possibilities for vegans too. Drinking water available at any time also as refill to the bottles which you get on your arrival.
Beautiful sunsets every day included :) Balinese traditional massage at the SPA was perfect, half day trip to Komodo island and Pink Beach was worth it. Free pick-up from/to the airport was convenient and well organised. Friendly atmosphere everywhere and always.
Would come back again anytime :)

I would like to thank Engel, Jessica and his entire local crew for the amazing trip on Komodo Sea Dragon Sail boat. I appreciate their helpfulness, friendliness and always prompt to respond to our They have kept the sail boat clean and all the programs well organised. I appreciate Engel for his clear briefings for keeping us up to the date of the daily activities which included clear descriptions of the dive sites and things to take note of to ensure the best of our experiences. At the end of the trip, we even enjoyed a complimentary delicious and authentic Italian pizza at the Diving Club and Resort!
Special thanks to Jessica, our designated tour guide, for going above and beyond my expectations to take so many great shots of me at the various sites of attractions. The photos are professionally taken and will be cherished for many years to come!! A BIG THANK YOU for making my trip one of the most memorable tours!

As one of the eleven people in the tour group with Ian Campbell, I would like to address the inaccuracies in the response of the resort's new owner to Mr. Campbell's review. The eleven of us come from different places with different backgrounds, and we all would corroborate that review. And we are not conspiring to malign Komodo Resort, which is a nice beach resort with a wonderful house reef.
But it has significant limitations as a snorkel or dive resort. For example, there are no rinse tanks for camera equipment, no compressed air, no camera room, and no marine life guidebooks in the public area. These are all things available in even the smallest dive resorts I have visited in Indonesia, such as Alami Alor.
The dive manager may well be an experienced SCUBA instructor, but that is not the role Mr. Cambell is criticizing. Mikael told us directly that he is not a snorkeler, and he spoke to our group only once, after we expressed our disappointment in the abundance of dead and broken coral at the first day's boat sites. Mikael's response was that people come to Komodo to see big things like Mantas and turtles, and that the turtles like to be around the dead coral. We received no briefings about the sites we were going to visit, and they were notably less vibrant, with less variety of marine life, than the house reef.
Mikael also told us we should rinse our expensive underwater camera housings with a hose, and that soaking the housings (designed to withstand the pressure of 50 meters or more underwater) in a rinse tank would cause the O-rings to collapse, and the housing to flood. I don't think it is malicious to say that is ignorant.
Likewise, no one is questioning the safety training of the guides, but rather their role as guides, i.e., spotting and pointing out interesting things. This they did not do, and it was made known out to Mikael by our tour leader after the first day. One of the guides told us that he was a lifeguard, but had no training about marine life.
What is malicious is to insinuate that Mr. Campbell ignored the guide's instructions. At the site in question, we were all told it was ok to enter the water, he just happened to be first. Immediately afterward, the guide changed his mind about the current, and asked Mr. Cambell to reboard the boat, which he did. At no time did he cause a "significant safety concern."
I would have expected Mr. Olaru to be a little more contrite in his reaction to our group's experience, and to take a little more responsibility, rather than blaming Mr. Campbell, the tour operator and the tour leader. Snorkel Venture is an experienced tour operator and the tour leader was wonderful, and very concerned about our interests. Mr. Olaru was not witness to any of the events or issues he is addressing. The innuendo about our tour leader is reprehensible, given that she cannot respond without risking her job. The reader of these reviews will have to decide whose word to take.

Me and my family came to Komodo Resort for 3 nights and 4 days to enjoy the snorkeling and diving it offers.
The location could not be better, right in front of the resort is the home reef which features some of the best snorkeling you can do in this area. Hundreds of meters of corals of every shape, color and size as well as infinite animals. Just in three days snorkeling we saw sharks, turtles, cuttlefish, groupers and all sorts of other fish.
The diving is just as incredible. The whole team is great but our guide for all four of our dives , Jello, was everything you could want. My family are all newly certified divers and Jello made us feel comfortable and confident in every step of the way. He has a tremendously funny and cheerful personality, super attentive to detail to make sure everyone is having a great time whilst ensuring our safety at all times. We truly couldn’t have asked for a better guide.
Overall, this resort is straight out of a movie and I cannot recommend it highly enough. If you are a fan of the ocean, Komodo Resort is the place to be.

It was a wonderful week of diving at around the Komodo National Park at this time.
Scuba Jello (Cruise Director) and the boat crew made our experience sweeter for our time there and this is not our first time diving at Komodo.
We really wanted to dive the South of Komodo for a long time and it was made happened by Jello's team during this trip. As season divers would know, the weather during this time will be rough however we felt very safe and comfortable on board.
As for diving, we felt very safe diving with our guide Ronnie ensuring each one of us in the group have the full experience. The "dive centre" and compressor is on another boat called the Putra Sebayur which will tail the Komodo Sea Dragon everywhere it goes. There are pros and cons to have a separate "dive centre". Pros being less noise from the compressor during refilling tanks and also less mess around. Cons being getting in and out most of the time between the main boat and the "dive boat".
Putra Sebayur is also equipped with sun deck on the second level and toilet facilities.
Overall, there are more pros than cons.
We were never hungry during the trip and the food selection was pretty good. The rooms are huge and very nicely designed with ample storage and we had a good sized balcony for our relax time. What I want to applaud is the toilet in the room and also public area. Usually there will always be toilet smell lingering during our LOB experience. I am so glad time time there were no awful smell at all.
Everyone on board was always greeting us with smiles asking if we need anything else to make our stay more perfect. Briefing of the day's itinerary was clear, concise and very on schedule.
We would definitely return the Komodo and stay on the Komodo Sea Dragon during another diving season. To Scuba Jello's team from the Captain to the Chef, please keep up the good work!

This is a perfect place for snorkelers or just anyone looking for a worry-free vacation in a tropical paradise. The resort is located in the southern portion of a small island rimmed by a gorgeous "house reef" featuring a plethora of coral, anemone and fish species, and a few resident turtles (I counted six on one early morning outing). We also saw mantas and cuttlefish in deeper water along the reef wall. The reef is bordered by mangroves to the north and south. Watch out for tidal currents, especially if you are swimming alone or with small children. Fins are a must close to low and high tide peak times. The best strategy is to know the tide schedule and plan your reef outings accordingly (ask the staff on the jetty). Make sure to climb the hill above the resort, too, because the view from up there is just stunning.
The resort itself is a gem. Julian (owner) and Alex (supervisor) do an excellent job running the resort and we have only good things to say about the staff, room (we stayed in cottage 10 and found it very well-designed, clean and cozy), food, service and amenities. We felt taken excellent care of right from the pick-up at the hotel in LJ to the drop-off four days later. Everyone was super-friendly and efficient (don't forget to leave some tip for the staff when you leave!).
The restaurant menu featured a good selection of tasty treats, including local specialties and international food like burgers and wraps. Bottled drinks are extra, but priced very fairly (a 0.33 bottle of lager is $5 Canadian, and a can of coke is $2.5 - that is still cheaper than in many not-so-remote places in Canada). The resort WiFi worked well, even for WhatsApp videocalls.
We have no complaints, just a couple of recommendations: (1) the use of kayaks should be restricted to high tides because unfortunately, some people just do not appreciate the fragility of coral reefs. We saw many resort guests drag their kayaks across the exposed shallow part, where small corals, starfish and hermit crabs live and one family with kids even rammed their kayak into coral and then pushed themselves off with an oar. If people keep doing such things, there will be no coral left there in 10 years. (2) The classical beef burger needs some liquid egg mixed into the ground beef to keep the patty together, and some onion seared with spices for a zestier taste.

We went with a group on all inclusive paid trip. So it depends how you book. The diving is worth every cent/penny.
