The Mercearia offers hotel rooms above what was once a grocery store in central Ponte de Lima, just behind the Parish Church (whose clock chimes and bells are mercifully silent during the night). Delicious ample cold buffet breakfasts are served in the former shop, with antique shop fillings and shelves stocked with wines and historic dry goods as charming background. The comfortable rooms upstairs are named and colour-themed around groceries; soap, sugar, red peppers, chocolate etc. There is some interesting and tastefully-delicate decorative metalwork in wall niches as you go up the stairs. Altogether a charming experience on our (non-Caminho) walking holiday. For evening meals there is a wealth of good, reasonably-priced restaurants within a few minutes walk.
This was a former village grocer store and has kept many original features of it, for example, the breakfast room is still laid out as the store would have been many years ago. The hotel is small centrally located with approx 8 rooms and provides only bed and breakfast which was continental in style (fresh orange juice to die for). Note there is no lift but the hotel was modernised and well maintained. Rooms were spacious and clean and in our room one of the balconies overlooked the church and the river beyond. The proprietor was friendly and helpful and would certainly stay again.
A lovely family run guest house in the pedestrian precinct of a really pretty small town. Very comfortable, and the owners are extremely friendly and accommodating. Great value for money. Lots of great restaurants nearby. Highly recommended.
This beautiful old hotel is the centre of the lovely, historic town of Ponte de Lima. We had a room on the first floor looking out onto the square below, the river Lima beyond and the church with its bell tower next door. The room is well furnished and very clean, with comfortable beds and the sun streaming in through the balcony window. The en-suite bathroom is generous in size with a great shower. Breakfast is included in the price and is very nice, especially the coffee.
Charming little B&B with the sweetest hosts you could possibly want. Spotlessly clean, large rooms, comfortable beds, nice and ample breakfast all in a great location in the heart of old town Ponte de Lima just a block from the river and walking distance to all local sites and restaurants. This place would be a value at twice the price. Limited English spoken here but we got by with a couple glances at our travelers dictionary. Highly recommended.
"You will hear the church bells no matter which room. Views vary but all have interest. We were happy to be near the kitchen."Read full review
"ask for "quarto do sabao amarelo" for the large double overlooking river. Top floor is a suite but less of a view."Read full review
