We stayed in the Shepherd's Hut which we loved and have already shared our experience with many others. Kathrine and Hugh were delightful to be with. We felt like we made friends for life! The accommodations were quite comfortable. The outside bathtub was a fun experience and we enjoyed our chats with Kathrine and Hugh. Hugh even showed us around...

Our hosts were amazing. We were the envy of our friends, even if they stayed in more "upmarket" places. We loved the ambiance, the privacy and our excellent hosts. We had the opportunity to stay in both of the types of accommodation available at Coombe Farm, but while the in-house one was grand with a great breakfast provided, we really appreciated...

We have stayed in many excellent B&Bs around the world, and Coombe Farm is one of the very best. Kathrine and Hugh have created an oasis of quiet elegance on a sheep-and-cattle farm in a beautiful location just a few minutes from Akaroa on the stunning Banks Peninsula. Everything was perfect, from the tasteful decorations, to extremely comfortable amenities and...

The Shepard's Hut is a cozy private retreat where we celebrated our 42nd anniversary. The young and young at heart will love this "hut" with a back to nature feel. Katherine and Hugh have though of everything one needs: CD player with a wide and perfect music selection; comfy robes; a wide deck to enjoy a glass of wine, eat...

We stayed one night in Kathrine and Hugh's home on our way to the south. It was a delight. Rooms were very comfortable and clean. Breakfast was really good in particular the croissants nice and warm, and the apricot compote. The hosts welcomed us warmly and recommended us great places to dine in Akaroa and in Christchurch. They also had...

We stayed at Coombe Farm for just one night last week toward the end of our New Zealand adventure and it was the perfect place to end our trip. Katherine has created a delightful haven in the countryside, beautifully furnished and appointed, and my only regret is that we were not there for a longer visit. She has anticipated her...

We stayed in the Shepherds Hut which was separate from the farmhouse and very private. Katherine was extremely pleasant and has created a very special place. The hut is well designed, cosy and comfortable. Lovely extra touches, flowers on the table, fruit bowl and chocolate. Provisions - egg, bacon, yoghurt, fruit, bread and preserves are provided and cooking is on...

Both the house and hosts are charming. It's a peaceful location yet still a short drive from Akaroa with all of its French charm. The farmhouse was built in the 1890s and had been substantially renovated. There is a large, welcoming community lounge with comfortable seating. Our bedroom was en-suite, with the usual tea making facilities. The bed was really...

“The farmhouse has wifi, but for a unique option, try the Shepherd's Hut. Nothing like it anywhere else.”
  • Those teacups are adorable and a lovely view of a bubbling creek.
  • In a completely private area, truly, you can shower outdoors while you listen to the birds sing.
