I booked one night at Tombstone as the start of my trip south and could have stayed longer. Gary's scones were the enticement, a recommendation from Kathleen and Francisca at the iSite in Wellington, but this proved a very good choice for much, much more. My private room with bath (and lots of hot water) was as good as a...

Freshly baked scones every morning!!! Should I even say more?! The hostel is incredibly well maintained, the facilities are spotless, the hot spa always ready, the kitchen well appointed, the owners kind and caring, the staff happy and friendly,... I can keep going for hundred of words. Gary & Nikki: you rock! We'll be back very soon!

I was recommended this hostel by a travelling friend and decided to end my trip to New Zealand at Tombstone. I was not disappointed and thoroughly enjoyed my time there, meeting some interesting travellers. There are separate TV, reading and common rooms which enable you to enjoy the serenity or get amongst it with fellow guests. A selection of DVD's...

I booked this through Booking.com as I wanted something close the the ferry or so I thought as I thought it was walkable but it isn't! Called the site and they advised that they have a shuttle in a designated area at the ferry terminal - awesome. The front door of the hotel is a giant coffin shape and the...

Hi Sycomp, thank you for taking the time to write a review for Tombstone Backpackers - we appreciate the feedback and are pleased that you enjoyed your stay with us. Interislander ferry terminal is a 15 minute walk from the hostel but as you say we provide a free shuttle for those that want a pickup or drop off. Bluebridge...

The common area is quite good with different rooms, garden, deckchairs, table tennis... Great free cheese-scones for breakfast :-) !! I stayed in a 8-bed-dorm. The beds were really squeezed in this tiny little room. I even took my backpack in bed for the night because there was no space on the floor to store it... I slept in an...

We stayed at this backpackers after catching the Interislander from Wellington. What a great place to stay! The location is not super convenient if you don't have a vehicle (15min walk from the main street), but offers lovely views over Picton. The room is warm, cosy and modern. It's well-appointed with ensuite bathroom at the entrance and a nice balcony....

After arriving in the port town of Picton somewhat frazzled and without a bed to call our own, we were advised by the loveliest car rental man at omega cars to check in to tombstone backpackers. Whilst at first alarmed by the morbid tendencies displayed by such an outrageous name and front door we were immediately charmed by Gary and...
