I have stayed here before, but the motel is now under different management. Our room has been recently refurbished and everything sparkled. Sited walking distance from the ferry terminal the Gateway Motel is a good place for a stopover.

Stayed here after kayak-camping for 3 days. It was right in town so convenient for food, and it had laundry facilities! The room was huge, and the beds were very comfortable. It's right in town, but Picton is quiet so it's still an excellent night's sleep.

We spent one night at the Gateway Hotel before starting the Queen Charlotte Track. Check in was a simple process and our room was available before the stated check-in time which was a bonus. The room itself was fairly basic. The bathroom was clean, but on the small size. The shower water control was slightly odd, but gave out plenty...

I stayed at the Gateway between some walks around the sounds. The staff are very friendly and accomodating, including letting me leave some bags between walks. Importantly, should you be finishing the Malborough track on a rainy day, the showers are really good. The location is hard to beat, being right in the centre of town and a short walk...

We usually stay here off the cook strait ferry on our way south. The standard is consistently high , and as the motel is centrally located there is a wide choice of restaurants in very short walking distance. It's also very quiet. They are always very helpful with accommodating motor bikes securely and nothing is too much trouble. All in...

Apparently this was the first motel in New Zealand but it is one of the best we have visited on our travels. Very helpful and friendly hosts, clean and spacious rooms and very well kept gardens make this place stand out from your average motel. Top location too in the centre of town. We would definitely stay here again. Gusto...

Easy to find motel right in the CBD. Great access to good eating places and retail. Rooms are comfortable enough, a little bit dated but great for the one nighter before moving on. Friendly hosts. If it is party night in the town though you will get the noise of the revellers.

The Gateway is a comfortable, well-maintained property, and so convenient being located in the main street of Picton. Despite it's central location our room was quiet and a good night's sleep enjoyed. In room amenities are relatively basic but adequate and the facilites were spotless with everything in perfect working order.

We found this motel to be perfectly fine and the location excellent. Sure, it's a little dated and tired but it was clean and the service was excellent. Recommended for a stopover place. Shuttle service for the ferries is a nice touch.

This Motel is centrally located in the heart of Picton. With great restaurant and cafe options all close by, shops, supermarket and tourist activities within walking distance, this is a great location if staying in Picton. Room was comfortable with small kitchenette. Reception and staff very friendly and helpful.
