This was our first time visiting this resort and overall we had a great time! It’s a beautiful resort with friendly staff.

Although the beach isn’t as nice as other areas of Cuba, we still enjoyed spending some time here. However, there were times that there was a lot of seaweed laying on the beach. I would also recommend bringing water shoes as the beach is quite rocky/ has broken shells in some areas.

The resort and rooms were very clean. However, the AC did not always work in our room a lot of the time. Our room, and our families rooms all had a pretty musty smell. Our room had a dehumidifier in it, but we had to turn it off a lot of the time because the room got so warm with it running when the AC was not working. I was thankful that I brought a small fan with me. The beds were comfy.

We stayed on the sanctuary side and were premium class. Our view and location were great. We stayed in block A and would recommend, it’s in the same block as the lobby and is really close to everything around the resort. Our butlers were great and attentive, we had Yousef from 7-3 and Raciel from 11-7. Yousef checked in with us most days via messenger and was very helpful when we had any questions and made our dinner reservations. Raciel came and found us every night at our dinners and was eager to do whatever he could to make our trip more special.

The food selection was better than I was expecting. There were always omelettes, fresh pancakes, eggs, and smoothies in the morning. For lunch and supper we enjoyed the pasta and fried rice bars the most. But there was always a good selection. They always did the best with what they had, but I’d definitely recommend bringing any sauces, spreads, seasonings that you may want!

The drinks, especially in the sanctuary lobby bar were delicious. I think the drinks at this resort were the best we’ve had in Cuba.

The pools were always clean and it was always easy to find a pool chair (especially in the main pool) we found the sanctuary to be the most busy when we were there.

There wasn’t a lot of entertainment at this resort. I believe there were a couple of evening shows but we didn’t end up attending these. There was dancing at the main pool in the afternoon most days that we were there and one day at the sanctuary. We felt like the entertainment wasn’t very well advertised, other than some vague posters outside of the theatre room.

Power went out every day for a minute or so in the evenings but was quick to come back on. Wifi works well for most of the week and worked all around the resort, other than the beach.

Overall, we had a great week!

This was a fantastic stay. Beautiful, clean, well kept grounds. The food was amazing and always fresh options available. Dinners were exquisite and we enjoyed all the restaurants on site. The staff are the most kind and hard working. They always went above and beyond. I was able to get ample water bottles, butter, bread, seasonal fruit and eggs, pasta, fries, and beach towels. The pillows are great and clean bedding, you can tell they use industrial strength cleaning practices. The icing on the cake is for parents! I was able to get liquid milk each night for my daughter, a couple glasses of ice cold milk for her is one of her favorite ways to wind down in the evening. The animation team works incredibly hard to put on Zumba classes, dance classes and themed parties which we partook in daily. We had the best time ever and their energy is the greatest. The animation team's dancing and games made our trip extra fun. There is a full service baby sitting on site with an enclosed shallow pool and sand area. Even though the Kids Crew Staff are very capable of looking after little ones (Even going to the buffet for food for the kids, fresh water on site, beds and cribs for younger tots to nap mid day) parents can still stick around the kids play area, so I would lounge on a seat in the kids yard and know she was happy at close range at the same time. It was the best experience for families. The beach is great, shallow, nice for swimming, white sand. You cannot go wrong at this hotel. You will be so glad you visited Grand Memories, the truth is in the name too! We will always remember a fun time here. Tip for quiet, early bed times is to request a room facing the south side, away from Poolside party/music etc.

The hotel is brand new, with spacious rooms, comfortable beds, perfect cleanliness, and beautifully maintained landscaping. The staff was friendly and consistently welcoming, making our stay very enjoyable.

We felt incredibly safe during our visit and had no concerns about leaving our belongings on the beach. We didn’t use the room safe at all. The only maintenance issue we encountered—a broken drawer door—was resolved within an hour. The hotel also has an excellent DJ who plays a variety of music, and we enjoyed partying there nearly every night until 2 a.m.

We stayed for a week in the Diamond Club. The main benefits included access to premium drinks, a beautiful buffet/dining area, and having a butler. Our butler, Yosbel, was always available via WhatsApp and quickly responded to any questions or requests. One of the highlights of our stay was when Yosbel decorated our room as a surprise for our anniversary, which made us feel incredibly special—thank you, Yosbel!

The beach area is nice, though the ocean is mostly wavy. The staff keeps it clean of seaweed, and the beach is perfect for long walks. On one side, there’s an exposed coral reef where we saw lots of wildlife, including hermit crabs, sea urchins, fish, and even an octopus. However, you’ll need water shoes to walk on the reef and explore it. Beach chairs don’t need to be reserved, as the staff brings them to anyone who comes to the beach.

If you’re traveling with kids, the “Swim with the Dolphin” half-day excursion offered by the hotel is a must! Interaction with the dolphin lasts about 30 minutes, and swimming, touching, and hugging it is incredible. The dolphinarium staff also takes videos and photos for you directly on your phone while you’re in the water enjoying the experience.

The only drawback for us was that the hotel didn’t feel very welcoming for kids. This wasn’t related to the staff or their service but to how the hotel operates, dividing areas for adults-only guests versus others. Since we were traveling with two kids, even as Diamond Club members, we had more limited food choices compared to guests staying in the adults-only Sanctuary part of the hotel. After speaking with Sanctuary guests, we were surprised to learn that we paid only about 10% less for our stay in the Diamond Club but didn’t have access to the food options offered in the Sanctuary buffet. This made us feel that families with kids are less welcome, even if they purchase an enhanced package.

We definitely recommend this hotel for all its advantages listed above. However, we don’t recommend purchasing an enhanced package if you’re traveling with kids—unless the hotel changes its rules to allow families with kids who buy enhanced packages to access the same food options as Sanctuary guests

This was the worst vacation I’ve ever been on from start to finish we bought the diamond club package at this resort with an oceanfront view we were supposed to be greeted with cocktails in a separate check-in area this never happened for anyone. We were supposed to have a fridge stocked with beer and water every day. This also did not happen when we finally got our room at 5 PM there was no water and no beach towels available. We then asked the front desk for beach towels and water we were told they would be in our room the following morning at 9 AM so we had no towels or safe water for an entire first day. We got one roll of toilet paper per day and we’re forced to scrounge the resort just to use the washroom. The beach was absolutely disgusting. There was 2 feet of seaweed on the beachfront at all times that they attempted to clean up in the middle of the day. The beachfront bar decks were cracked and roped off because they are a straight up hazard. Half of the à la cart restaurants we’re not open so everyone had to use the buffet. There was wait lines every morning just to get into the buffet restaurant to then stand in line for 30 to 45 minutes for eggs or an omelette. The Beachside Grill was not open our entire stay, and did not look like it had been open for a while, so there was only two buffets to get food from both provided you with either rice, pasta, with cut up hotdogs in it, powdered potatoes, fish, or ground up cabbage. The lobby bar and pool bars would always be at least a 10 minute wait per drink. The walking paths throughout the resort were extremely slippery and they would mop the tile stairs both sets at a time which was very dangerous. The worst part of the trip was that I fell on wet tiles in the evening from a fresh mop job, and had to get several stitches in the back of my head. (See attached attached photo) this resulted in a concussion and vomiting. The pool of blood was still not cleaned up the following morning. On the way back out of Cuba our flight was delayed and when we landed back in Toronto our luggage was lost (YYZWG17063 reference number) which is still lost. This was a terrible trip for my fiancé and I and we feel as though we wasted every dollar we spent. I would hope Sunwing can do something to compensate us for this horrendous experience. Last not this resort was rated 4.5 on trip advisor but if you dig deeper you can see the bad reviews the recent ones are glowing reviews with the bad ones pushed down so people don’t see. This seems like fake review are being used to scam people into going to this location.

Where do I begin? Let me sum it up by saying I would never return here. I’m not a critic or someone who’s stayed in thousands of hotels with high standards—far from it. Let me start with the hotel itself. It’s supposedly 3–4 years old, but when you see it in person (without focusing on the details), it feels like a rundown hotel that’s 20–30 years old. The rooms are decent overall. However, each one smells of mildew, and the air conditioning (unfortunately centrally controlled to save electricity) is set at 20°C. You’ll either freeze or end up constantly turning it on and off. Occasionally, housekeeping skips cleaning, but if you ask for it, they’ll take care of it without issue.

The food is a much bigger problem. Pizzas, meats, and similar dishes are made fresh on the spot, which means you’re always waiting in long lines. I can’t understand why they don’t just make more pizzas in advance, cut them into slices for people to grab quickly, and keep things moving. The same goes for the meats—pre-cook them and let people take what they want. As for the prepared dishes (some meats, potatoes, cheeses, etc.), they’re okay. But sometimes, they’re covered in flies, which is downright disgusting. Tonight’s dinner, for example, consisted of chicken drumsticks in every other tray. So, your choice is drumsticks or... drumsticks 😀.

Drinks? You’ll get water, wine, or beer. Juices are available only occasionally. Breakfasts are sparse on sweet options, the milk is basically colored water, and the only fruit available is papaya! Nothing else! Bars are sometimes overcrowded, so you’ll wait in long lines; sometimes there’s no cola, or they simply don’t feel like making a piña colada, and so on.

As for the staff, they are universally grumpy. They treat the job like it’s the worst in the world—no smiles, just robotic behavior.

Lastly, the cleanliness is appalling. Trash is scattered everywhere, public restrooms are clogged and foul-smelling, the bar with a pool table is closed, and the children’s play area is in ruins with two utterly destroyed foosball tables.

All in all, this is the real Cuba. If the management is interested in improving, I’d recommend visiting other hotels that are only slightly more expensive but function far better.

I had a very relaxing holiday at Grand Memories Holguin resort as a Diamond Club room member. The staff were very welcoming and everything went smoothly. The waiters were very friendly and frequently came around to serve us in the lobby and in the resturants. The food was plenty and very delicious, I especially enjoyed the Mondo Italian restaurant fried fish dish. The beach was very pleasant and staff cleaned up excess weed after rain with a big truck. I enjoyed the latin music at the beach very much. Everyone at the resort works very hard, even the chair boys on the beach (they are always ready to set up a new chair for the customers).
We also had great assistance with our luggages being brought to our private rooms. A nice touch are the many useful elevators around the entire resort for people with mobility issues and heavy luggage. The rooms we stayed at were very nice and functional, they had everything inside that was needed with a very nice shower and functional airconditioners, and even mosquito nets on the balcony door.

The musical lobby and restaurant entertainment was very good. The hotel gym is very functional, nice and useful. The pools looked very nice and clean, but I am a beach person and I frequented the beach area.

The hotel has great organization, the restaurants are booked ahead of time and a reservation slip is brought daily to the private room along with refillable daily drinks (water, beer and apple juice). There was a nice touch of a free bottle of tequila in our Diamond Club members room which we took home as a gift.

We even had a room butler, Mr. Williams José, who served us in our private rooms and was accessible through Whatsapp. He managed Diamond Club members room service, he brought us cappuccinos privately into our rooms and answered all questions and concerns for Diamond Club members. Williams José was very friendly and personable.

I would highly recommend this resort if you want a relaxing vacation with the least amount of stress.

The service is always adequate to the best expectations, everything is done with diligence and accuracy so that you always have maximum comfort. In the rooms, in the restaurants, in the common areas, in the swimming pools, attention to detail is evident everywhere so that the only thought is to enjoy the beautiful days of holiday in joy with those who are sharing it with you. The food, the dishes, the courses, are always good and varied, nothing is missing even for the most refined palate. The staff, all of them, are always very kind, helpful and smiling, giving you that feeling of general well-being that you need when you are on holiday. I would now like to say a few words for two people in particular, the sweet Beatriz, the bartender and her boss in charge of the place, Hubert. My experience at grand memories hotel was absolutely phenomenal! It was my first time ever going to Cuba and I went with my now fiancé. we went for a week in September on the sanctuary side with no kids. The hotel itself is absolutely beautiful! The architecture of the building and the way that the resort is laid out is amazing! As well, I booked my trip through Sunwing and with their transportation all inclusive, it was a very stress-free vacation! What really made my trip so amazing in Cuba was the staff at the resort! Every staff member from the waitresses to the cooks, bartenders, butlers, and receptionists were all so genuinely kind and just wanted to make your experience the best it could possibly be! The pool bar on the sanctuary side had the best bartender ever his name was Yulian! He was so kind and outgoing and speaking with him was personal, he really cared how you were doing!

While we were on vacation, my birthday was one of the days there. I ended up being surprised at the pool with a live band, singing me happy birthday in Spanish! As well at the à la cart dinner later that day staff had put up birthday decorations for where I would sit and at the end of the meal, surprised me and my fiancé with cake! After a day full of surprises after dinner back in my hotel room, there was a bottle of wine and two glasses for my fiancé and I along with a handwritten note from the staff wishing me a happy birthday! it was such a special day and I will remember that experience for the rest of my life! being treated with such genuine care and compassion more than just because it’s their job made cuba the best trip I’ve gone on so far! The beach is absolutely stunning and every morning the sunrise would rise above the ocean! Every morning workers were out raking the beach and the entire atmosphere was so calming!

I found the site in excellent condition for Cuba. There were even little extras with freshly cut flowers in the shared toilet rooms, and plenty of towels and fresh water at the gym. The room was really good and clean with recent furniture. Towels were replaced several times during my stay, toilet paper was in sufficient quantity and a new bottle of water (1.5L) was left in the mini-fridge every day. For food...we all know that supply is difficult. A la carte restaurants offer us something quite good in the circumstances. Reservations were easy and all done at once. For the buffet, there was too often a wait, in my opinion, to have something prepared on the plate or to access the dishes. The service was very good, special mention to Julio Cesar at the concierge who was particularly attentive and helped to improve my stay. For entertainment, not really an evening show, "theatre" looks more like a conference room. On the other hand, two super nice evenings with karaoke in the sports bar and the beach party. I would have liked more activities like this. Beautiful vegetation all around, but far from everything (especially the airport) so a little less possible activities than in Varadero for example. Bring your water shoes for the beach, there are lots of shells and beautiful waves. I had no problem having a chair and a palapa each day.

Having travelled to Cuba over a dozen times and many other parts of the Caribbean, I had low expectations. I thought the food shortages were exaggerated and that we would have basics for children like Milk; hot dogs fries, burgers. NOPE nothing.
The food put out at the buffet is not edible, a lot of the times its is a platter of mixed items that seem to be left overs from a few days. It is not food safe.
The snack bar offered Ham and cheese sandwich or A mayonnaise sandwich.
The 2 stations (stir fry and pasta) have very long lines for food. a plate of pasta is a 40 minute wait, there was roaches crawling up the wall and the lady uses a dirty cloth between each person to wipe the pan.
It is an absolute horror to watch.
There is no grilled meats available, no eggs, no wine etc… fruit options are pineapple or watermelon.
There is zero condiments; no butter, no jam, no ketchup, no salad dressing (not even oil and vinegar)nothing. I strongly recommend bringing these items to help with your meals.
I also recommend you bring snacks especially when travelling with children as there is nothing to purchase at the hotel or the mall across the street.
Absolutely heartbreaking to watch, the staff have bare minimum to work with.

The positives are the hotel itself and Rooms are clean and tastefully decorated. We had what we needed in the rooms; clean towels , toilet paper, toiletries, and bottles of water available.
The beach is nice however it should be cleaned to remove garbage and seaweed.
There is plenty of pool and beach chairs, you dont have to reserve spots which is fantastic.
Staff is helpful and friendly.
entertainment seems fun, and there is a game room for kids to enjoy.

Hopefully things get better and i can update this review.

Bottled water is your best option, the hotel does provide some. Canadian currency is accepted, however they cannot exchange Canadian $1 or $2 (loonies and twonies), I have taken very good quality $5. $10 and $20 Canadian bills with me to exchange with staff that have Canadian coin they cannot use, their banks will not accept them. US $1 are commonly used. If you are looking for excursions Sunwing lists them on their website, hotel activities are not listed as far as I know. They do have theme days, Cuba day, Canada Day and Orange Day.
