The Marriott Marquis Washington, DC earns praise for its cleanliness and prime location, which guests find convenient for both business and leisure pursuits in the nation's capital. While opinions on room quality vary, with some citing modern comforts and others mentioning dated decor, the central location near DC's attractions and the metro stand out. Opinions on value are mixed due to concerns over hidden fees, yet some guests feel the pricing is justified. Service experiences can be inconsistent, but the hotel's amenities generally meet traveler expectations.

I spent five nights at this hotel, time to visit the city as well as attend a conference. The location made everything easy; the mall and museums were a nice walk away, and the nearby metro connection makes getting around easy even in bad weather. My room was comfortable and quiet, with a convenient storage space and safe for valuables; bathroom had a walk-in shower and pleasant toiletries. Everything was very clean -- excellent and courteous housekeeping. There are two bar/restaurants, one more upscale than the other, both with good food.
The only thing lacking was telephone service; my husband tried to call my room using the hotel line and had great difficulty getting the call through to me; he was told it was hotel policy not to connect to guest rooms late at night (it was c. 11:00 p.m.). I asked about that at the front desk and was told it is NOT hotel policy; I asked that my husband's calls in future be put through to my room and still he had trouble! The hotel needs to warn guests of this policy, and also make sure staff understand just what the policy is.

We stay in Marriott brand because the standard of their room, bed and cleanliness, in addition to lounge access. What set one aside is their service and their food in the lounge. This hotel is right by the convention center and able to walk to some of the DC attractions. Lobby is grant. Our first night, we arrived late for dessert in the lounge. It was loud, dirty dinner dishes were all over. There was no soda, juice beverage but water bottles and the bar was open with a bartender. We stayed a week and realized since there was a volley ball convention, the items served in the lounge were different. Unlike other Marriott, staff do not clean off your table, although there are a few of them standing around. Items of food are in low quality. Except for two, most of the staff are not friendly in this lounge. The two- level gym is awesome. It has high quality equipment, even better than a commercial gym with a hefty membership fee. Apple, fresh towels and water bottle were plentiful, along with multi-TV.

The AAC&U Conference was held at this location and I am truly impressed with how well the hotel handled such a large crowd. My room was clean and comfortable with a nice street view of the city. I couldn't believe how good the hotel food was along with the service at High Velocity and Anthem. I will have to return for a personal trip next time.

This is about our fifth stay here at this hotel since my husband has his convention yearly here.
We checked in at around 10:00pm after traveling most of the day. Tired we received three keys to our room. About an hour into our stay we had unpacked and ready to take a shower and hit the bed since my husband had a 7:00 am meeting. With the time change that was 4:00am our time. My husband called room service for extra towels. The front desk girl said we were not supposed to be in that room. She was rude and asked us to vacate. My now angry husband said absolutely not. He checked in on the Marriott app, was charged over $2,000 for our stay and when arrived again checked in at front desk was given keys to this room. She was surprised and claimed that is not possible, then told him to come down immediately. Astonished we asked her how she got her job here since she is unaware we can check in on the app. A lot of going back and forth and finally my husband said to her to go speak with her supervisor and call him back, send the towels so he can take take a shower and he absolutely will not come back to reception. She will have to clear it up he is going to bed it is now 11:00 pm.
He hung up on her. Because I was tired and did not want someone calling us, we decided to go down I felt insulted and angry at how the situation was getting out of hand.
The supervisor was at the computer along with three other people when we approached and explained. She gave a week excuse and some inane apology. She asked for our keys to reset them which means that our keys were deactivated. Furious now my husband lost it and being a premier Marriott member demanded the name of the staff member that was on the phone so he could make a proper complaint. The supervisor Sharon said she could not tell who it was because she has two front desk girls. Another inane excuse. She returned the keys told us that we were in the correct room, that it was all a mistake. This is customer service??
I asked for the towels be sent to us. 1/2 hour later, knock on the door, there was a lady who brought two blankets and two pillows. She told her she is off now and housekeeping is closed. Go figure we only asked for three towels. Needless to say we managed with the towels we had and went to bed.
Marriott Marquis gone to the dogs!

The front desk, valet and bell stand staff were all extremely helpful and courteous while still efficiently handling long convention lines. The lobby was clean and spacious.

My room had a weird smell that my traveling companion did not notice in her room on a different floor. A bathroom wipe down with Clorox wipes solved the problem. (Perhaps cleaning cloths that were dirty?) The shower was in sad shape and the light in it did not work. I didn't notify the front desk, so I can't speak to that.

The room was dusty and furnishings worn and peeling, but the bed was clean and comfortable. The room was not worth the price, but it did the job.

I’ve stayed here several times over the years. Service has always been quite good and still is. The hotel is very expensive ($400+/night) so i would expect great service. Like most. Hotels, they have compromised in a couple of areas. First, i noticed that the daily free papers are gone. Second, the room cleaning is down to ‘light’ (no sheet changes except every fourth or so day). Otherwise, great location (next to convention center, the Mall is within walking distance.

The Marriott Marquis is a terrific hotel and the service was excellent. The check-in and check-out were a breeze. My room was attractive and very comfortable, although a bit on the small size. The bed was quite comfortable. The room had a mini fridge, which I appreciated, but a nice complement to that would have been a mini microwave. My biggest issue was the bathroom. If you put the bathmat on the floor, you could not open or close the door. And the door extended to two inches from the toilet. The bath towels were just adequate in size, but were paper thin and the consistency of sandpaper. Apparently, the hotel is too cheap to buy nice towels and has never heard of fabric softener.

Stayed 3 nights for a business trip. Check in was seamless. I was greeted warmly as a Bonvoy guest, told about free internet and given a much appreciated bottle of water. Had a king room. Headboard was distressed from wear and tear but bed was comfortable, pillows were perfect and the chair was comfy. Housekeeping was outstanding! Room was cleaned every day with attention to detail, and I tipped accordingly. The first two days the bathroom was stocked with individual shampoo and conditioner. The last day full-size bottles in the shower were attached to the wall. I found the products to be high-end with essential oils that really helped to wake me up in the morning. All in all a very nice trip. Kudos to the staff.

I was really looking forward to staying at this hotel. Everything looked good on paper. The hotel is located in a prime location, especially if you are in town for a conference (I was). The Convention Center is located right across the street and everything you could ask for is within a 1-mile radius. Also, the bar/restaurant staff were very attentive and pleasant.

Everything else, though, needs some work. The room was a little “worn”; my rug had a big stain on it and the headboard had a bunch of scratches. Also, the location is prime, but there was a homeless tent settlement across the street. I didn’t feel safe. Finally - and this is my biggest concern - was the valet. I stayed 3 nights, and paid $60 per night for overnight valet. My car never left the garage during my stay at the hotel. However, my car was damaged after being parked in the garage (photo attached). I was told that video footage would be reviewed to confirm the damage. I have heard no further updates, which is disappointing. I spent $180 to ensure that my car remained in good hands, but instead I’m now left with a damaged car. I could tell the hotel staff wanted me to join the Marriott Bonvoy Loyalty Program; however, after this experience, I will decline.

This was my second time staying at the hotel. It’s a large hotel used for conferences and galas (I was there for conferences). The rooms are spacious but no bath (at least not in the standard rooms) and needs an upgrade. The staff is generally helpful and nice. The hotel is located in a nice neighborhood, close to high-end stores and nice restaurants/bars.

The major issue I had was that there was pubic and body hair from the previous guest all over the bathroom and the room and there was trash left behind. I know that hundreds of guests stay in the same hotel room, but I think it’s the hotel’s responsibility to make it feel like no one has been there and keep the rooms squeaky clean. It really grossed me out every time I found a new piece of curly/frizzy hair…..
