I have never reviewed a hotel on TripAdvisor but was compelled to do so after the worst experience I have ever had with a hotel or a customer service office. The Watergate Hotel falsely advertises special offers and does not hold true to their word. Last week I booked the Argentta Spa Package which is advertised online to include two 50-minute massages. When you click on the link to book the package, it sends you to the booking page which says that the special requested rate has been applied as a “Special Offer” and you just have to pick your room. To confirm my booking and price, as well as book the included spa appointment I called their reservation office and their booking agent Bertha helped me to confirm my booking and select the massage day/time. The booking for the package was actually cheaper than the two spa services on their menu, so I was sure to confirm. I triple checked with her over the phone that the confirmation email and price that I had been emailed was the full and total amount, and that no additional rate would be added. She reconfirmed. After my stay at the hotel, I was charged the full amount for what should have been the included spa services. Of course, I called the hotel to request that they fix the error. Their General Manager, Pascal Forotti, argued (yes, argued!) that I should have known that in their system the booking should have said code: “Spa Package” instead of “Special Offer” and thus I should have known that the spa package was not available (for no explicable reason). I have screen recordings and screenshots of the false advertisement in case they change the website, which I hope they do. The GM offered a complimentary night (which I cannot take advantage of and do not want) but not to refund my money. After over a week of back and forth calls, they settled to refund me with just ONE of the spa services but not the other. They falsely advertised a package and charged me without authorization. I have never experienced such atrocious customer service or seen such egregious false advertising by a hotel in Washington DC. Do not by ANY means stay here, or believe their sale offers or booking agents.

Hotel's Favourite
We had a wonderful experience at The Watergate Hotel. Even during the Pandemic we were extremely impressed. We have enjoyed staying at The Willard in the past but The Watergate Hotel surpassed our expectations in both beauty and comfort. The staff caters to your every need. During our visit Adreanna and Aziz, at the front desk, were extremely accommodating and made our experience an unforgettable one. They entertained our questions and shared with us the charm and history of this beautiful place. You could tell how much the enjoy working there, their energy and enthusiasm were almost palpable and contagious. The room was gorgeous and amenities were top notch. The Next Whiskey Room must be experience by anyone visiting the DC area. We had a few hours to relax in the pool and we also enjoyed that very much. Staying at The Watergate Hotel was a wonderful experience all around and we are already looking forward to our next visit. Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Dear Margarita, Your glowing feedback is much appreciated by our staff, especially Adreanna and Aziz who strive to exceed expectations at our Front Desk. We are so glad that you were able to learn more about our unique history and also enjoy The Next Whisky Bar and indoor pool to get the urban resort experience. You must return in the next few months when we will have our Top of the Gate rooftop open to serve cocktails with sunset views. Thank you for choosing The Watergate Hotel and we hope to see you again very soon. All the best, Pascal Forotti Managing Director

This was all around the best stay I have ever had in a hotel all thanks to the receptionist Alex. I stay in a LOT of hotels. I spend 30-100 nights in a hotels across the country each year in part for work, and because I love traveling. Alex is without question the best receptionist and salesman I have ever met. He is friendly, well dressed, down to earth and professional. Alex is such a great receptionist he probably deserves a raise, if not the privilege to teach hospitality at Cornell or EHL. Watergate is very fortunate to have him on their team. I checked into the Watergate with intention of experiencing the hotel on a budget. Alex was able to convince me to upgrade to the Scandal Suite ($$$$) which I never thought I could be convinced to book, and it was money well spent. I am a huge history buff and thoroughly enjoyed the once in a lifetime opportunity to stay in a part of history. Not only did Alex upsell me to a dream suite, he was patient enough to show my friends and I the same suite that was used in the film “Forrest Gump” which I will likely attempt to book in a few weeks, if my friends don’t first. Also a special out to the bellman Ozzy, who is one of the most polite, prompt and attentive employees I have ever had the privilege of encountering.

Arrival: Quick, Courteous, no concerns. Room: Clean, Interesting, Well Put Together for Historical Significance. The bath water refused to get hot, and I'm not picky, but it was barely warm. Service: This is where it gets interesting. I booked the "Scandelous Experience", which comes with a bottle of wine, popcorn, and a few episodes from the show Scandal. When I called to inquire about the wine, I was abruptly told there was no wine with my package. When I referenced the website directly, I was told that the deal was pre-covid. Now, this rate was $70 more than the base rate, so while I didn't argue the point, I considered making sure I got the rate reduced on my departure. Then, 10 minutes later, a manager arrived with a bottle of wine for which I was grateful. When we ordered room service dessert, we were quickly told no room service during covid. I called back to speak with a manager, and I was not allowed to speak with the floor manager, was told to deal with it as its a covid rule that I need to go down to the restaurant to physically order dessert. I'm uncertain as to how it's possible that physcially going downstairs to order something is more dangerous than dessert being left at my door, but, those are the rules. My issue is definitely with the way it was presented, the righteous tone that was used, and the ridiculousness of the rule to begin with. Not to mention they brought ice to the room twice with no mask on. Amenities: Pool was the only thing open, EVERYTHING else was closed, and only 3 people could go in at a time (there were 10 when we went, so didn't go in). Departure: Smooth, other than being charged 32.47 for a "movie" that was never ordered. Best Part....Price: $1600, for a basic queen sized room (called a suite because it's the one they staked out in to nail Nixon), with no amenities, no dine in, no room service, no hot water, and rude staff....kind of unreal.

Dear Mr. Kilby, We are pleased that you found our Scandal Suite interesting and appreciated the historical significance. Unfortunately, it seems that there were some inconveniences during your stay and we will be reaching out to understand more. Adhering to the current CDC guidelines is core to our staff training and you should never be encountering a team member or hotel guest without a mask. Our sauna and steam room are currently closed as a safety measure. We appreciate you sharing your feedback and we will be in contact shortly. Kind regards, Pascal Forotti Managing Director The Watergate Hotel
