This hotel is amazing at almost everything it does! But when I went to -3, a maid who cleans the rooms asked if I’m lost. I wasn’t. Then I told her I’m riding the Elevators. She said I cannot because I might cause accidental damage to the elevators when my whole trip was about riding the elevators. That ruined my trip.
This is probably 1 of my disappointed stays ever in any JW Marriott hotels in the US. Location was perfect facing the Freedom Plaza, a few steps to the White House, view of the National Monument, a short walk to the Capital and everything else. Unfortunately, after the historical riot by the violence mobs on January 6, 2021 to the Capital. Washington, D.C. Security wasn’t the same, and we just happened to be in town in late January 2021. It was like a dead town. They don’t allow photo on the lobby. National Guards were checking in at the hotel, they were everywhere, and all packed tight together. I thank them for their service! Don’t get me wrong but they are smoking everywhere by the corner of the hotel, talking closely to each other’s... inside lobby it was packed, and no one gives a damn about the Covid safety, it’s truly sad to see. Wonder why the Covid cases is rising amongst them as the news came out the same week we were there. Nothing open in this hotel except the market in the lobby which DO NOT allow you charge to your Roka, odd. NO VALET, so you have to park on 13th street, $40 a day, you got to get your ticket in & out. We are in our room, room service, put the trash bag outside our door, almost 2 days, no one picked up. We had to bring it to the elevator trash can. We understand the situation but they could have warned their guests BEFORE we check in or that we could have chosen another hotel to stay. The worst thing was their SHOWER HEAD water pressure... I thought my hair conditioner will never be rinse through because of how weak the water pressure was. I ended standing in the shower twice as long as I normally would. So instead of saving water, it was just even worse, all together. We couldn’t wait to get out! We were shocked that they charged in the $800 a night. Who was in the right mind pay for this rundown JW Marriott. It’s a shame for Marriott Bonvoy brand, to say the least! SKIP IT ALL TOGETHER. 2 stars is for the room service ladies drop off our food, they were super nice! Otherwise, it’ll be 1 star! …
This was our first trip to DC and first time at a JW Marriott. We paid an average of $500 a night for a monument view guest room. I will begin with the pros of this hotel. PROS: The monument view was excellent. The 10th floor gave us an awesome sight of the city and it was enjoyable. Beds and sheets were very comfortable. The location of the hotel is extremely convenient since it is center of everything. The one time we had room service, it was delicious. Front desk was nice and accommodating. CONS: WiFi is only free to Marriott members, despite their extremely high rates. A burger and fries from room service was $17. The air conditioning would not keep the room cool. We tried many efforts to cool off but we were always burning up in the hotel. The rooms were smaller than expected and the bathroom was quite small. Although unimportant, the bathroom tub, shower, and tile were not what would be considered luxurious for a high-end hotel. It should be updated. Only two 4 oz. bottles of drinking water were provided in room. There was no microwave in the room which is an obvious attempt to make guests order room service for all their meals. We traveled to DC during the Stop The Steal/Jan 6 events. When the mayor forced a curfew on January 6, the security of the hotel was forceful, rude, and tyrannical. One guest was thrown into the street, my wife was forcibly grabbed and yanked inside by a security guard, and later on they threatened to lock guests outside. We were boisterously yelled at for confronting the security guards for this treatment and were threatened with eviction by them. Many guests were left hungry in the lobby since they shut down their market and room service during the curfew. No one could get food since the city was shut down and the hotel would not provide any hospitality or source of food or refreshments during the night. Countless times people told us they were hungry. The next morning, they had no food for sale at their market either. We could not eat breakfast at the hotel that day. Their security would often walk by to tell us we were not allowed to eat or drink anything in the lobby. The whole place felt like a prison. Do not count on this hotel to take care of guests during a crisis.…
The only food available is in room dining that you can't order from your room but have to do so at the concierge's desk, and it takes hours to arrive. But what is even worse is when they deliver to the wrong room and when you go back to the concierge's desk to find this out and they tell you it will be another 2 hours for them the deliver to the right room. Really hate this hotel. Worse experience I've ever had at a Marriott and I've stayed at them all over the country.
I share office space across from the JW Marriott (1300 Pennsylvania Avenue NW), and have often taken clients across the street to have coffee and light snacks here. I never imagined that I would stay in the hotel, but on my last trip through the District, I found a great rate through Marriott.com's website. I had a splendid view of Pennsylvania Avenue and the Washington Monument. The Executive Lounge, although very busy, had plenty of brilliant snacks and an honour bar for refreshments. The hotel is in pristine condition, and I was impressed with my stay. --A loyal Marriott Titanium member!
