The Washington Plaza Hotel garners appreciation for its comprehensive array of amenities, including an acclaimed pool area and powerful showers in its spacious rooms. Guests have highlighted the hotel's cleanliness and the exceptional service provided by the staff, who are often commended for their professionalism and warmth.
While the central location is a hit among travelers, offering easy access to nearby attractions, some guests feel the decor is a touch dated, which occasionally raises questions about the overall value. Despite this, the hotel's nostalgic charm and cozy atmosphere continue to charm visitors.

Detailed Reviews
The hotel was clean and offered great service. The housekeeping was always on time and rooms cleaned daily with supplies replenished. Overall I loved the place and enjoyed my stay. Only wish they would refund the deposits faster, its been close to a fortnight and no word on my safety deposit, they said it would take 3-5 business days!

We stayed at the Washington Plaza Hotel for about 1 week for our vacation in DC and really enjoyed it! The hotel is in the perfect location for a tourist that wants to hit all of the sights of the city. A quick walk to several nearby bus stops or the McPherson Square Metro Station gets you anywhere you need to go quickly and affordably. The beds and finishes are comfortable and VERY clean! While the decor may feel dated, I have not been in a cleaner hotel in a long time. Every single staff member was friendly and helpful and worked to ensure you had a good stay. Housekeeping was on top of it with regular cleaning and stocking of your room. I felt the rates were fair for our experience and would definitely stay here again. If you're there in the summer, make sure to pack for the pool area! We didn't think to bring swimsuits and definitely felt like we were missing out.

I chose this hotel on our traveling trip between Niagara, Amish County, Philadelphia, Washington, New York, for two nights in the city. Having rented the car we preferred to use their garage, although not exactly cheap, still in line with the prices of city garages. The hotel is neat and clean, the quadruple room is spacious and, in our case, pleasant overlooking the pool and the square in front. Given the not-so-cheap price, we opted for the overnight stay only, taking advantage of a nearby Dunkin Donuts to have breakfast, taking the necessary to consume it then in the park next door. At the reception they gave us tips on restaurants and transport, introducing us to the circular, which we used. Unfortunately we did not have time to go to the pool, we had planned many visits, but I must say it was very tempting! Would definitely stay there again, given the convenient location to visit as much as of our interest.

We loved our stay here. We were greeted at the doors while they opened it for us more often than not. Easy check in process with friendly staff. Our room was clean, very spacious and the bathroom was very large & clean also. The water was very hot. A counter for a toiletries bag or clean clothes would be nice, but I just used the closed toilet lid. We also enjoyed the small balcony as well.
The pool and pool seating area was really nice. It was nice to get a cocktail at the outdoor bar and go over to the pool lounge chairs and relax. The restaurant has a really nice dinner menu. We were able to eat outside for dinner at the covered patio. We also had breakfast at the same restaurant. A nice convience for sure. Also worth mentioning is the drop off/drive up to the front entrance is covered. Also there are 4 elevators to use. Close to CVS, Wawas and a small market. Convenient location.

Well I made a reservation with booking.com and the idiot of a agentnwent and canceled my reservation when I specifically told him not to and I would handle a room change at the property in person. So that ties up the money I had already spent on the room which basically made me pay double untill my refund comes back. That's completely messed up my plans for tbe family in DC cutting our spending money in half.
As for the hotel it's much further from all the attractions than you realize and walking is a task especially since every street looks the same we ended up getting lost twice for a total of 3 hours in the blistering sun. The pool is really nice and clean the only downside was that it's a heated pool which is not preferable after coming in from 99 degree weather. I got a superior queen room with balcony and let's say it's literally almost a closet. The bed was not a queen but a full although it was comfortable it definitely was advertised wrong and made for a terrible night of sleep. The balcony overlooks the pool but the door definitely needs refurbished as anytime you open it the room door would slam shut. The walls are paper thin and there's a huge gap between the Dorr and the floor so you can hear any and everything going on in the hotel. The bathroom is bigger than the actual room but had the same toilets you see at sports arenas. The toilets your flush with your foot.
Housekeeping was good but for some reason they took it upon themselves to move all my things and line them up against the wall categorized. All my things including our suitcases, UNDWERWEAR, shoes, colognes etc! They should not be touching your private belonging only cleaning around them. The food is crazy expensive we didn't even give it a try.
The front desk people were nice except for one 20 something white girl with tattoos everywhere on her body who would not give me the total price she was charging for the room. Parking is like 43 a day but you can come and go as you please. The access cards are worthless and I had to have mine replaced 5 times many times leaving my family sitting in the hallways after long days waiting to get in. The gym is nice but old and is int he basement
I'm still waiting on my security deposit to be returned to me to see if this place tries to scam you like most when you check out.
All in all its a OK hotel definitely wouldn't be my first choice if I go again given the distance and the decor. They need to have all the charges outlined and visitors should not have to wait days after checking out to see what the security deposit is! It's like they are using our security deposits as a line if credit for themselves which is ridiculous because that hotel was packed and bringing in bouku money

We spent 3 nights in the hotel and can thoroughly recommend this hotel and Washington DC as a place to visit. The hotel is conventiently located providing an ideal base for our sightseeing trip.
All the staff were great from the off - friendly, helpful and knowledgeable regarding places to visit etc. Being British my usual request for a kettle and fresh milk to make tea was fulfilled immediately - always a good sign.
Whilst in Washington DC we had a personal issue which the hotel helped us resolve. Specifically I would like to thank Flannery Barnes, Assistant General Manager, who took personal responsibilty for this and who went above and beyond to resolve the problem for us.
The solution exceeded my expectations and I would like to offer my personal thanks on this public website.

Incredible service! With customer service a seemingly lost art in so many areas, Treasure and her staff define what it means to be customer oriented. Treasure makes sure everything is right, making guests feel at home. The same goes for Charda and Sara behind the bar, Nitasha, Mikaela and Paul.

I found this hotel deeply disappointing. I travel almost 6 months out of the year for work and I did not expect a hotel in the middle of one of the best cities in the country to function this way.
My biggest complaint is that after the restaurant closes, if you want to eat food from the outside at the bar or in the bar area, they wouldn’t allow you to. In a transient city, where people come from all over the world to stay for work— eating and drinking is a vital part of the travel experience.
I ordered food from DoorDash and was forced to sit in a room behind the restaurant by myself. It’s one thing if the restaurant is open for service, but it’s another thing when there’s no other options and you’d like to have a glass of wine.
It’s a ridiculous policy. By the way, I am a customer service trainer in my current business. The opportunity to make a customer happy is enormous. It’s too bad the manager on Saturday night November 9th, couldn’t think for himself and let me have a nice glass of wine while sitting at the bar.
The rooms are average and the rest of the staff are not particularly exceptional. To me staff are everything
I would like to mention that on my departure date Wednesday morning, November 13th, the staff were 💯 of a different class. There were three folks behind the counter and they were filled with smiles and helpful communication. One person to mention it in particular was Treasure. She was a gem just like her name.

Response from ABDULLA ALMUTAIRI, General Manager at Washington Plaza Hotel
Responded Dec 9, 2024
Dear julesfrmnyc, Thank you for the candid review! I appreciate the feedback. Please note that due to certain levels of regulations, we do not allow for outside food or beverage to be consumed on our premises. I understand that this may seem as a nuisance, however, we must remain in compliance with food, health and safety regulations. We do not allow for outside food in our food & beverage premises as it collides with health and safety codes. Our team is committed to providing exceptional experiences, but it is also a responsibility to ensure we remain in line with correct and healthy food practices and regulations. We can not allow for outside food fares to enter our establishment so we remain with compliant tracking of food standards in our premises. We wish you safe travels. Best, Abdulla Almutairi ASSISTANT GENERAL MANAGER

The hotel is conveniently located within walking distance of the White House and other places of interest. It is also within walking distance of the metro station which provides a direct service to Dulles International.
What makes this hotel special is the staff and the management team as they are all so friendly and helpful . The team at the front desk including Treasure, Flannery and Stacy were so helpful prior to and for the duration of my stay.
As a coeliac, Sarah, Sharda, Carlos , Nyesha, Paul and David ensured that the kitchen team were always informed of my dietary needs. The kitchen team also adhered to the procedures that is necessary for coeliacs. This enabled me to eat very safely in the hotel.
As a regular visitor to DC I always stay in this hotel and have recommended it to others because of the helpfulness of the staff and the excellent location.

I believe they used a CC for incidentals at the bar, dinner, etc. But it didn't seem any different than other hotels I have used. Was not a problem. Hope that helps.
