Reviews summary
This summary was created by AI, based on recent reviews.
Powered by AI

Travelers often commend the State Plaza Hotel for its value, citing reasonable rates and useful amenities, despite concerns about unexpected costs and parking fees. The staff's professionalism and dedication frequently receive high marks, though responsiveness has room for improvement. With its prime location close to DC landmarks, the hotel is a hit, notwithstanding the issue of nearby homelessness. While the full kitchens and cleanliness stand out amongst hotel amenities, the lack of fridges and ice stations is noted. Rooms are typically hailed for their space and comfort, but some guests have reported mildew and pests.

My husband and I stayed in this hotel for 2 nights in February 2020. There is nothing fancy about this hotel, but there are many things that make up for that. Having previously been an apartment complex, the rooms are fairly large and include small kitchens (full size fridge, cooktop, microwave, sink, dishes and a small table with chairs ). There was even a new bag of ice in the freezer which came in handy after I fell and hurt my knee! The staff was friendly and very accommodating, especially Gerald and Oscar. The location is very good and the small cafe on the lower floor is good with reasonable prices. My only complaint is that the property is not truly handicapped accessible, since you have to walk up or down 4 steps to get to the lobbies.

I have stayed at this impeccably maintained hotel for years. The rooms are clean with a sophisticated decor and a nice little cafe on the premises for breakfast, lunch, or dinner. The menu is limited and it is a bit pricey for what you get, but it's great to have the convenience when you want it. The rooms are large and have incorporated a small kitchen, the smallest of which is like a sizable efficiency and others have the space of a one-bedroom apartment. ( I believe it really was once an apartment building) I would have given it 5 stars if weren't for the pillows. If I forget to bring my one, I can count on a sleepless night. Nice for watching TV, but way too plump for sleeping.

I like staying at State Plaza Hotel first because it is very close to GW and then because of its price compared to the rest of the hotels close to GW and what you get. I have only stayed in deluxe plaza suites so I dont know about the other rooms, but this one is very big and comfortable. The king bed is very nice and the couch is fine for kids/teenagers.
It has a bathroom that could be bigger but it works fine and a kitchen with mostly everything you might need. There is plenty of closet space and sitting places.
The only thing I would definetly improve is the lighting because I find it scarce and very white.
The people at both front desks (there are two entries to the hotel in two different streets) have always been helpful and respectful. I was always offered help with my suitcases which I never needed.
The parking is another issue I assume if you go during a bussy time because they cannot guarantee a space (I never go with car to DC since I find ride share cars and other methods of tranportation are great and way cheaper that parking cost)
There is a CVS next door open 24 hours which is very convenient.
And yes, it is a little noisy with trash trucks in the morning if you are a light sleeper...
There is a restaurant on site that I have never go to and a fitness center that i have never used so I cannot comment about those two.

This hotel was a remarkable find for us, as we normally stay at a chain where we have points, but we were drawn by the price, the reviews and the location. We will ALWAYS stay here when visiting the Capital. The rooms are a great size (we had 2 queen rooms), with a full kitchen and a full dressing room outside the bathroom. a dressing room! who has that these days? Right in Foggy Bottom/GWU area, and 10-minute walk to the White House. Very clean, everything seemed updated, beds and pillows were totally comfy. Desk and valet service were friendly and efficient. I hesitated to review it, only because I didn't want to share what I consider a truly hidden gem.

The hotel is conveniently located in the Foggy Bottom/GWU area. Close to restaurants, short walk to the metro and even a shorter walk to the bus stop.
Rooms are spacious, with an adjacent kitchenette, where one can have a cup of tea or coffee in the morning or even cook a small meal. The hotel also has their own restaurant, next to the gym.
Staff are very nice and courteous. and the price is very reasonable for Washington (cheap during the weekend, a bit more expensive during the weekdays).

The lighting in the room was a bit dark, but the management is now working on improving it.

A great place to stay on a first visit to Washington DC - convenient and easy so even taxi rides weren't too expensive (I love that it was in Foggy Bottom). Spacious room , enough facilities for a business traveller and to be really comfortable as each room features a kitchenette, dressing area, study table, safe and a flat-screen cable TV. I understand there is a business centre as well although I didn't need it. Clean, modern, great staff.

What a lovely hotel! The staff are friendly and attentive and the hotel is smartly decorated.

The room was MASSIVE with an unexpected dressing room and kitchenette (it was genuinely the size of a small 1 bed flat!) and it was as clean as a whistle. Classic decor, plug sockets right where you need them and such a comfortable bed.

The hotel itself is located in a quiet area, just a few blocks’ walk from the White House. You could hear a little noise from the rooms next door but nothing that would keep you up.

Overall a wonderful hotel that we wouldn’t hesitate to stay at again.

We were blown away by the service and kindness of everyone at the hotel. Our room was extremely clean, staff were beyond nice and helpful, and they truly made our weekend vacation better than we ever expected. We choose to use the valet parking and never had to worry about our vehicle and could easily take the car in and out with their support. Erin at the front desk went above and beyond with helping us decide on dinner plans, getting directions and even finding parking near by since we aren’t familiar with the “city life”. We were pleasantly surprised waking up to a personalized letter under our door congratulating us on our soon to be little one. I would definitely recommend this hotel to others and plan to stay again.

Let me start by saying this hotel is not new, but it’s beautifully updated. So clean that everything sparkles. (hall and staircase included) They do total room service every day, including changing towels, which is a thing of the past in most hotels these days. The breakfast in some cases is included and is white table clothed cooked to order and delicious. The beds are AMAZING… Gerald and staff couldn’t have been more helpful. Location perfect. Can you tell husband and I both loved it. It’s a must stay.

We were looking for a place to stay while on vacation for the Winter Break. We wanted to be close to relatives in the suburbs and still be able to take in the city attractions. Finally, we wanted a suite with a kitchen. Harder to find than we thought.

My wife found the State Plaza Hotel. As someone who was born in DC, I knew it wasn’t the best neighborhood but they had all of our boxes checked, they were priced really well, AND they threw in parking when my wife called to ask for the best rate.

The room was amazing. A giant living room/dining area, galley kitchen (no stove but a four-burner cook top) and a huge bedroom. The room was very clean and was completely serviced each day (rare during the pandemic) and the staff was friendly and helpful.

The negatives had nothing to do with the hotel but more with the area. During the day we could walk to area sites (The Mall, White House, war memorials, Lincoln Memorial are all short walks) and felt completely safe. It felt less safe at night, as do a lot of city neighborhoods, so we drove or Ubered. It could also be that it is safer when the University is in session and the government agencies are more fully staffed. We were there the week before and after Christmas.

We would absolutely go back. I really can’t say enough about the staff and about how clean the hotel is.

Yes. We used it. They have you fill out a tag that you get one end and the other is attached to your luggage. Then they put it in a locked area.

We are 3 people, sometimes 4. Two adults & one 10 year old. Sometimes Granma comes along. We usually stay in 2 suites. One a king with kitchen ( we like to prep our own dinner veggies & breakfast), and one normal suite. We book over a hotel website and have not come across any problems. I make sure at check in, that we get the rooms requested. Also the suites are equipped with a pull out couch, which I have slept on a couple of times (when grandma is with us), and they are quite comfortable. Just make sure to ask for an extra blanket!
