Alfred is an awesome host and the Power's mansion is an amazing historical building. The rooms are really nice and clean and you will not find a better value for the money anywhere. The location could not be better, It's situated right next to the historical district and there are great restaurants all within walking distance

I traveled up to Auburn from the Bay Area for a girls break with my friend. As soon as we stepped into the Mansion, we fell into this beautiful, tasteful, magical time wrap. The place itself was so special, filled with modern facilities albeit quaint and artsy all around. Then we met Alfred. I read reviews about him online and was expecting a super nice host for sure. Alfred is much more. You will feel like you are staying with family. He is such a colorful character, has so many amazing stories to share, and great tips about how to optimize your time in the area. We followed his advice and had 3 amazing full days in and around Auburn. He also cooked these super yummy breakfasts every morning, always took time to talk to us and genuinely cared about us and all his other guests. I stayed in the Chinese room, and my friend stayed in the Irish room and we both slept like babies! I can’t think of a better place to stay in the area and I am already looking forward to coming back! And with all the beautiful projects Alfred has for the place it can only get better, which is hard to imagine. Thank you Alfred! It was awesome!

Not the lap of luxury, per se, but a pretty nice stay. If you want a truly historic room/experience, this fits the bill, and it was comfortable enough. The owner cooked up an excellent breakfast — that was the best part (tasty mini quiche, sausage, and more. the fresh-baked blueberry scones were fantastic.) He also texted us a little “guide” of local sights to see, like a little itinerary of where to go and what to do. The price isn’t bad, considering what you get.

The Inn is in a great location, walking distance to old town Auburn shops and restaurants.
Having been built in the mid 1800’s and being close to town it was surprisingly quiet. The room was a good value for the price.
Sometimes the experience far outweighs the cost. The Proprietor/Host/Chef Alfred is a man of many talents. He has an amazing life story that I was lucky to hear. He has plans to open a Speakeasy and many other ideas on the table. I will return to see what other surprises await his guests. Thanks Alfred.

What an amazing experience, the quality and craftsmanship of this home was unbelievable! You truly get the full experience of the era and the history around this mansion is incredible. Not to mention Alfred is an amazing chef! Breakfast was anything but typical! He made fresh frittatas, glazed blueberry scones, had fresh fruit and juice, homemade biscuits and gravy the list goes on. It was a real treat for my wife and I. We are planning our return stay in a few months but for multiple days next time. Alfred is a true gentleman and his hospitality and kindness is second to none! I recommend to anyone looking for a great experience, see some history, eat some great food and be surrounded by the beauty of this home and property should stay at the Powers Mansion. Hands down, the best bed and breakfast my wife and I have ever been to.

My wife and I just celebrated our 46th anniversary. I wanted to take her someplace special. When we were pastoring in Ely, Nevada, we drove through Auburn to get to California, and loved the old, gold country charm. I tripped over this place when I was searching for lodging, a few weeks ago, and fell in love! The room reminded us of our college days, in Texas. Our first apartment was in an old gingerbread house, like this one, with a tub on feet. I took her to a fine continental restaurant in a remodeled gingerbread house. Mr. Lee is an amazing man! In addition to his colorful history, he studied cuisine at El Cordon Bleu, and believe me - he learned his lessons well. The breakfast he created was simple American fare, and the best we've ever had - in quality and quantity. My wife, who is a wonderful cook, said, 'This blueberry scone is the best I've eaten.' The dining areas are decorated for Christmas, and we recommend several days to relax and refresh.

We just got back from a wonderful, relaxing 42nd wedding anniversary trip. We stayed in room #12, the honeymoon suite and had a wonderful time playing pool and relaxing in the heart shaped jetted tub. The bed was very large and comfortable. The room and house were quiet and spacious. We are most grateful to have the opportunity to visit with and get to know the gracious, hard-working owner and enjoy his delicious breakfast. We look forward to returning. So glad we got to stay here!

My wife and I, and two others, stayed 3 nights. The Powers mansion is located close to everything in downtown Auburn. The mansion is a treasure trove of history and the owner, Alfred, makes it come to life. Our room was beautiful, very comfortable, and clean!!! The breakfasts were absolutely wonderful prepared by a master chef. Alfred was one of the most interesting people we have talked to in a long time, a gracious host, and his teenage son Adam, an accomplished writer with a published book, was refreshing and just a joy to engage. Their dog "Sass" was a wonderful addition to make our stay just perfect all the way around. We felt truly at home in their home and look forward to returning.
