Detailed Reviews
I took a chance booking here as our family needed to be centrally located in Auburn for a few nights. The owners of this hotel have taken great care to rennovate this property but preserve the charm of a 1950s motel. The rooms are a little small (we traveled with 2 kids which likely made it seem smaller) but they are meticulously decorated and clean. All the little updates including the cute little mini fridge/microwave and retro curtains/lampshades are adorable touches. The check in was very easy and the staff were helpful. The bathrooms are very nice and the beds were super comfy.
Aside from the small room size (which is also part of the 1950s charm I think) I only had one other piece of feedback--it looked like maybe there was a pool at one time and that would make this place an absolute perfect stay. Auburn is mercilessly hot in the summer and temps were easily over 100 degrees during our stay and it would have been super nice to have access to an outdoor pool. Otherwise we really enjoyed this little gem and would easily return!

Check-in staff, very helpful.Handed some coupon's for use at property.Room decent sized, bed comfortable. As for my bathroom, standup shower, would've liked more room. Sink has older fixtures but they worked fine. For entertainment "complex" has a bar and bowling alley nearby (short walk).Perfect for easy access to/from Interstate 80. Yes, I'd stay again if rates were comparable to other area properties.

After seeing the retro signs for the Foothills Motel along Hwy. 80 we decided to give it a try and are glad we did. From the friendly front desk clerk who looked forward to the latest installment of "Bring It On" later that night to the chenille bedspread and the wacky Southwest style pictures hanging on the walls, the place was a hoot. It also was a good value, clean, and charming. We stayed in a non-smoking room near the jacuzzi with a private patio which overlooked a lovely lawn. We really like the layout of the motel - a series of one story buildings with tons of parking and ivy covered walls. There is also a microwave and mini-fridge in each room and free wi-fi. We didn't bring our dogs up this trip, but were glad to learn that the Foothills is pet friendly and allows up to two dogs per room. For travelers wanting a modern and generic hotel, this may not be the place for you. But, for those who appreciate a little retro-Americana for a very reasonable price, this is the place.

We loved our stay here. The place was extremely clean, and they recently did a remodeled. Its pet-friendly, it was nice to find a motel that accepted dogs and that was this clean. The room had all the amenities that we needed, bed was super comfortable, the AC worked well, as we were there on one of the hottest days, TV, bathroom was nice. The location was ideal, close to where we went hiking, breweries, and we went bowling on one of the nights. The employees were helpful and very nice. I already recommended this place to other friends.

This mid-century, retro motel is a fantastic value! The entire motel was recently remodeled and brought back to its former glory. The rooms are clean, well designed with amenities you would not expect at motel (including Keurig coffee maker) especially for the low price. Compared to the other options in the area, you are getting a lot more value at the Foothills motel. It is conveniently located along I-80 and next to the Foothills bowling alley - which has great good and is a fun place to hang out, bowl and have a cocktail or beer. There is also a Tesla charging station next door in the parking lot of the bowling alley.

This is quite possibly the best motel in the auburn area. Its clean, newly remodeled, ample parking, good price, plenty of amenities like a fridge, Keurig coffee maker, big working flatscreen tv {with a working remote}. The beds are comfortable, no torn or stained sheets. Add the fact that this is an independent motel run by very cool local people, and not some overpriced corporate brand is all the more reason to visit this hidden gem. Honestly I really couldn't ask for better place to stay.

This motel was built in 1952 and was recently refurbished/remodeled. The bathroom was very nicely remodeled and had a step-in shower. The beds were comfortable and the tv was large. The air conditioning worked well and had a remote for easy adjusting without getting out of bed. The rooms are small which I’m sure is fine if you ask for one bed. We got a room with two beds which made it too crowded for a chair and table. The staff was friendly. The photos were taken as we were leaving so I didn’t take pictures of the beds.

Great find! We stayed here over Labor Day Weekend and it was the clean, safe and staff were very friendly. The double Queen room was a little tight for a family of 4 but we made the best of it and we weren’t in there much anyhow. It was fully stocked with a mini fridge, microwave and Keruig. Had the best first night of sleep on a trip I’ve ever had. Beds are super nice and lots of pillow styles to choose from. There is a bowling alley and happening sports bar on the property. Great place to eat and people watch even if you don’t want to bowl. They also have an arcade as well. As a tip there is a second entrance on the far right if you don’t want to walk through the bar with kids.
Don’t let the negative reviews turn you off. Those are all very old and before motel was renovated. It may even be under new ownership as well. Also, despite its close proximity to the freeway it’s very quiet and because it’s up on a hill and off the road you wouldn’t know there’s a freeway nearby.
Highly recommend and would definitely stay again especially as a couple.

This place was a great value! CLEAN, quiet, keurig in room, firm bed (rare) and a variety of pillows. The host, Micheal, was really nice and helpful.
